Is it just me? Am I hallucinating? Is that a back button on the top left of the Android screenshot?

There is no way in the world I could reach that one handed, especially on a 5" screen.

The damm keyboard is active, tap the little arrow (main onscreen buttons) and keyboard dissapears :) bang! Back button easy to reach.

Well that's a huge improvement on my experience early last year with the tablet. So why doesn't iOS do this also? Do I have to jailbreak in order to get that sort of useful feature?

I can use my Note 2 fine with one hand and I do not have huge hulk hands. The issue is overblown.

Yes this "one handed operation" certainly is overblown. It's also a mantra created within the halls of Apple, then told to the public way back a few years ago during a keynote I attended.

You know once it came from Steve, it was gospel. Not to be challenged, even by those to think for themselves. :D

Never came across a tweak on cydia that address the "issue" (never been a problem for me where tha back button is placed on any os) plus remember that on iOS the placement depends on the app.

That is a back button.

It's funny you mention that with that particular screen shot. Notice at the bottom left? Yep back button, it will serve the same purpose but aids at one handed use.

Next time use an example that doesn't have on screen controls at least.

It only works for those that haven't removed the on screen controls, as many do when they personalise their androids, wanting to maximise their screen size.

Lol the system "back" button is on the bottom, that is in an app back button your looking at. Hit the down arrow ( on the bottom ) and the system "back" button replaces it (on the bottom) 2 presses, but one hand.

you can't remove the bottom strip nav control if the phone doesn't come with capacitive and hard buttons like galaxy or htc phones.

when the keyboard is up pressing the back button will first hide the keyboard.

When do people realise that Apple vs. Android battles are useless on Apple fanbois home territory ... Even in a subforum dedicated to Android or other phone maker you will always have strong "resistance" :)

Huh?

You can't do that without root. And if you do it's not permanently gone it just hides for more screen space. The phone is impossible to use without those controls, its like an iPhone without a home button.

Plus most phones like the galaxy line have those buttons under the screen, hardware capacitive buttons.

You've never used an Android phone have you? Why bother debating this?

I've only had the opportunity to use an Android tablet, not a phone. It wasn't a very pleasant experience for me, I bought an iPad instead.

Then you ought to know that there is a dedicated back button on android devices rendering your concern about the top left back button in that picture null.

The same cant be said about iPhones and iPads.

I'm not debating this with anyone, I observed that there is poor design practice on both iOS and Android platforms with the back button being placed up on the top left of the screen. Those that operate their machines with two thumbs will argue otherwise and that is their right to.

So with phones that have the capacitive buttons under the screen, do you end up with the buttons on the screen also? That was how my tablet appeared.

Hey, I've never said the iPhone is the best thing since sliced bread, ever. It's what I have right now and what I will continue to use as I have no need to replace it.

... Okay.

The point is the top left back button in android isn't as big of a deal than the top left back buttons in iOS because in android that isn't the only way to go back.

So in terms of back button locations, no, there is no "poor design interface" with android. Just options.
