What the heck is "simultaneous wifi"?

I know right? I believe that in the same SSID it will use both the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz spaces at the same time. But it seems that nobody who has a new iPad really knows much about wifi and how to test this, and Apple are incredibly poor with their documentation, so until someone who knows about wifi buys one I guess we’ll just have to live in ignorance.

Well, where did you read this is even a thing/feature?

Does the Mini have this, as the two share a lot of parts/internals?

Yep

Ah. I see it now under Tech Specs. My iPad Pro 11" has the same 'feature'. Not sure how to test, however.

Yeah I don’t know of a good bandwidth testing app you could use. And with Apple being so weak on specs it’s hard to know how well it should work.

If you have at least a 3x3 802.11ac wifi setup that supports 80Mhz channels width on 5GHz and 40Mhz on 2.4Ghz, then you could do an Internet speed test with the two networks on separate SSIDs, and then try it again with them in the same SSID. You would need to have a high bandwidth connection though and I don’t know what a suitable ceiling would be. Perhaps 1Gb/s? Or 1.5Gb/s?

Or if you have a Gigabit Ethernet attached NAS or some other device thst you can use you pull/push data to/from the iPad you could try the same thing. Copy a huge file with the SSIDs together and not.

There are a few ways to do it but there is no profsssional grade network apps for iOS that I know of. So that’s how I would do it but depending on your setup you may have other options.

For my iPad Pro 10.5”, I'm not too concerned about the simultaneous WiFi feature. ;)

Assuming iPad Air has the same Wi-Fi performance as the iPad Pro 11", I doubt anyone would be upset with these results. There are soooo many factors that impede Wi-Fi results.

I’m not saying that the current ones are crap, but improvement is improvement all the same. For those who like to sync, backup, and/or access/transfer files wirelessly, it’s an advantage.

My 2017 iPad gets around 470Mb/s from my local NAS. I’m not sure if that’s a limitation of my NAS transfer software, or the iPad wifi. It’s decent. But faster is faster. My MacBook gets far higher speeds.

Not a deal breaker, I’m just more interested to see what sort of improvement it (simultaneous wifi) brings.

Do the Airs not have the screen response issues that many are reporting with the Pros? I have the 9.7 Pro from 2016 and was considering upgrading to the new 10.5 or 11 Pro. However, my device is working perfectly fine and I wouldn’t want to buy a new one and end up in the screen responsiveness thread.
I am waiting to hear about this too since my Mini 5 had to go back for that exact issue.

Beyond that, I am waiting on sales. Paying 10.5” iPP price for an Air with the storage I need etc. isn’t worth retail price for me.

Country for one. In the UK, 100 mbps is considered very fast and Cellular won’t get anywhere near it.

Its a toss up, at the same price point the iPad Pro 10.5 seems like the obvious choice for many, but for me the idea of buying into a 2017 device with reduced years of IOS support from Apple doesn't really sit well with me either.

Advantages of the Air: Not known to suffer from bright spot defect, processor 2 generations newer so likely to receive 1/2 more iOS updates than the Pro.
No camera bump on the back is a big advantage for me. I never, ever use the camera and despise when devices don’t lie flat.

Going for Air 2019 for sure. I have Apple pencil gen 1. My iPad pro 2017 developed guess what... I am not willing to risk it again.

Air 2019 is the inferior device but it has 2 more years of iOS support unlike pro 2017. That's pretty big.

What is wrong with you? You seem to have a very hard time comprehending the reality that normal people (not you), are not even aware of ProMotion and are not going to think the Air is a laggy mess. To say that this is for 'no one' is idiotic but I see this pattern in your posts anyway. Good day.
You're a bully.
