Fine, I'll cease any future mention of smilies if that makes you happy. But it comes down to the point that for Apple it doesn't make any sense to have two upgradable computers competing against each other. Especially when only about 5% of the users would be upgrading anything other than the graphics card. And the size of an iMac Pro would be absurd, you are talking about a computer that is essentially an old desktop PC tower with a monitor attached to it in some way. It would be a near impossibility of a good design, and it would be so thick that somebody would have trouble fitting it on a desk. Granted, the hugely-coveted larger mac-mini would be a computer that I can definitely see happening, but not an upgradable all-in-one. And in means of your Mac Pro pricing, I completely understand why you feel that way, but there isn't a necessity to have an ACD, you could always do with another display now, and then upgrade to an ACD if you really feel the need to have one in 2/3 years.

But on a side note, what is the price for gas over there? I just filled up for $4.09 a gallon which is a major change for the car I'm driving (figuring that the gas average was about $1.40 when it was purchased).

thankes JML42691, and thats way i proposed the dell monitor to see which is better the apple display or the dell that i proposed in the early few posts which no body told me anything about it

loollool gas prices is about 0.26$ for a gallon.

Whoa, whoa. We don't have any money because we spent it all defending countries like you that are still using slingshots.

Not saying the spending is justified, but you damn well better be thankful.

and thanks mr.american soldier for the effort your making in this world but i'm not into the politics, so i hate politics, i'm sorry.

but thanks for telling me that mac doesn't require a mac pro :)

iMac Pro, Mac mini Pro are oxymorons.

What is needed is a midrange box, not more toys.

Do the new 24" use MXM for video? Video card is the only thing I would need to upgrade before I need to replace it years down the road. I would love to get one of the new 8800s in my iMAC.

i don't think so my friends, it's impossible as they where saying in the reviews :(

That is what I thought, but keep seeing people refering to that old article in regard to the old iMACs in conversations that are about the new iMACs.

its called the Mac Pro.

See you've completely ignored the 90% of people there that don't want an iMac because they actually want some choice over their monitor, but they don't have the moola to lay down on a pro. They're just way over the top for most normal folks and use. Why on earth they can't make a mid range desktop is beyond me.

apple should announce in the mac world in jan 09 for a new mid range product, because imac are almost fair prices, mac pro are very high, with the apple display comes even higher

so we're all thrilled from apple to surprise us with a new apple just like the iphone and macbook air, so i hope that apple will full fill all our needs

Yeah...

Yeah...I'm sure Apple can't wait to cater to picky, cost-conscious consumers like yourself and others.

Yep, sarcasm. It just isn't Apple's thing.

First of all, screw off.

Second of all, I said a mac pro doesn't require an apple monitor. Maybe you should take some of that money you're saving on gas and invest it in some sort of reading program.

actually i've invested alot of money from the gas :D, but i'm not gonna wast it on a non investment product (like the imac and apple displays and the mac pro doesn't even give you a chance to invest), and i know how to read, thats way i'm here

and i've listened to your idea "that mac pro doesn't require an apple display" so thats what i've found (DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP):-

2408wfp_overview1.jpg

apple displays doesn't have this ;)
2408wfp_overview2.jpg

it's a 24 inch with usb ports, and that's all for just 599$, thats the price of the 20 inch, it's the best thing you're gonna have, and it's the best in the market, 4.4 stars, and that mean it's a good deal.

Yeah...I'm sure Apple can't wait to cater to picky, cost-conscious consumers like yourself and others.

Yep, sarcasm. It just isn't Apple's thing.

It's ironic that before you were born Apple offered by a large margin the most expandable personal computer on the market. Now they are marketing sealed units exclusively if you count the Mac Pro as the workstation it is instead of just a PC.

'It just isn't Apple's thing'.

It wasn't the Big Three's thing to build Civics and Corollas either. Apple really needs to guard against someone filling the gap they have left open.

It could be something as simple as Asus's little Linux sub-notebook that has been getting a lot of attention, but in a desktop with some new killer app.

Who knows?

What's the point of this thread?

I've read through the whole of the thread and still cannot actually find the point of this thread.

All I can gather is the OP is bitching like a girl because the iMac isn't upgradable and they're crying because Apple won't make a computer personally for them?

GET A LIFE!

The whole point of the iMac is it's an all in one, you replace it every three years or so. You say the 3.06GHz will not be very powerful in 3 years. I think you are in for a shock. It'll still be as fast as it was the day you bought it.

All those that want a mid range tower, go and get a PC and stop crying. If as you claim there was such a demand for a mid-range tower, do you really think Apple would spurn the chance to take your money off of you? If you do then you obviously have your heads yp your own ***'s. Clearly needing to get out more.

A matter of opinion.....

My Dad is a graphics man and really only uses photoshop. That being said his office Mac at his DND office is a Quad Intel Mac Pro 8gb ram and his home office computer of choice at the moment (from the 5 current mac's he seems to have collected) seems to be his 2.8 Intel Duo iMac with the previous ATI Card 4gb ram.

He said his render times appear to be much faster on the iMac then the Quad at work. I can't say there is any science in this but he does batch rendering using Photoshop with 300mb files for a couple thousand photo's at a time and he claims the iMac smokes the Mac Pro tower.

Just throwing this out there.

well then your telling me that i should go for the mac pro to get a personal mac, i agree, but these are the futures that i'm gonna lose:-
1_ front camera.
2_ microphone.
3_ all in one design (so i need a bigger space for the mac pro and appl display)
4_ Speakers (great.. more stuff).
5_ Wireless Network (i still don't get it, why apple is making the mac pro wireless as optional, they are races, even the mac mini comes with a wirless)
6_ oh i forgot the most important thing, the Monitor .
7_ aloooot of money my friend.

all of these , i think i'm gonna hallucinate, all of this just to apple allow me to change the gpu, why???????

and your telling that you can't find the point of this thread , are you high!!!!!!!!

and here are the features that i'm gonna get from the mac pro:-
1_ 8 cores (quad is more than enough for me).
2_ upto two 3.2 ghz (2.5 is way to much for me).
3_ who in the world computer freak or a mac that needs 32gb ram .
4_ two super multi drive (1 is more than enough for me).
5_ 4 hard drive slots (i don't need more than 1 slot with 500GB )
6_ a beautiful nothing in one design :p
7_ need more space (mac pro, monitor, camera, etc...)

now i need to pay 3000$ at least (mac pro, monitor, speakers, wireless, etc...) just to have an upgradable GPU

one day you guys won't find me here anymore because either i'm giving up on the mac osx and go back to hell for the windows, or in prison for killing steve job :p

unless if i bought a mid range pc and used hackintoach to install mac osx illegally., and i guess this way apple will lose alot of customers, because hackintoach is spreading very fast these days and we all know that, and thats because apple doesn't have a mid range product, this is a shame from apple .

i really feel sorry for alot of people in here by acting like an apple bi**h, but for me i'm following the reality.

I think YOU need to get a life as you clearly have your own head wedged firmly up Steve Jobs's arse.

There is nothing wrong with liking Mac OS but wanting a mid range PC. I don't see why you apple fanboys have such a hard time with that.

The reason I frequent this website is that I geniuinely wish apple would bridge this gap in their offering. One of these days I hope to visit the home page to see just what I'm looking for. Until then, I guess I'm perfecting my hackinstosh or trying out the next Linux distro. Windoze sux:D

that's what makes me sick , i think that if apple released an apple mid range product, no one will need to use the hackintoach, because i think that most of who use an a hackintoach there doing it because:-
1_ high prices from apple.
2_ no products that are upgradble except the mac pro.
3_ no mid range products.

will if apple doesn't want the people using the hackintoach then they should release a new produce a new "mac", i mean real new mac that it's called a "mac" and a mac pro, just like the macbook and the macbook pro at the next mac world in jan 09.

if not then either i'm moving to the hackintoach or back to pc's :p
then all what i have to say is that screw you apple and apple bi**hs :p i'm using the osx either you like it or not in my way!!!

because apple should let there customers decide what do they need, not what apple need, it's our choice.. not them we are paying, it's not for free from apple.

Here's my input for what it's worth.
I'm about to purchase my first Mac, and use OSX for the first time....after using Windows for approx 13 years.

The very reason I'm buying the iMac is because it ISN'T upgradeable.
I'm sick to death of replacing parts to upgrade, then having to mess around with drivers and software to make it work properly, which is very hit and miss.
I'm fed up with going to my PC to do something, whether it be to game, edit photos', burn a disc, browse the net......then find I never seem to get done what I went to the PC for, instead I'm trying to fix some random problem, and before I know it, it's time for bed...so sick of it all.
The very reason I want an iMac is because Apple have hand picked the hardware, software and drivers to all work together without having to mess around trying to get everything to talk to each other the way it should.
I want to just switch it on, do what I wanted to do, turn it off, go to bed.
I'm really questioning myself why it has taken me this long to be aware of Apples products, because I know, if I had been aware years ago I would most certainly have chosen to buy one back then. As strange as it may seem, the only reason I am aware of the choice in Apple is by a recent purchase of an iPod touch, and a soon to be purchase of an iPhone.
The quality, ease of use and features of all the Apple products I'm aware of are second to none, and I for one can't wait to be a part of it all.
I've just sold my highly upgradeable Windows PC to a friend, it cost me approx £3500 less than 2 years ago, I got very little productive time out of it, and I got £800 when I sold it....
The way I see it going for me is, buy the iMac , use it for 2 years or so, sell it for a little under half its new cost (is that too hopeful?) then buying a newer model, then repeat....that way I'm getting solid productive time, on a solid platform, and enjoying it, and not losing anywhere near as much money as I was with the upgradeable PC.

Sorry for the hijack just wanted to get that off the chest of a long time suffering Windows User.
