I got a pretty good deal on a brand new in box sealed iphone 5s 32gb space gray. The price I paid is $100 less than the price they are going for now (that is since the iphone 6 release) unlocked on apple.com

Also yes you are right I do not want a phone larger than say the samsung galaxy s2 i9100. At first the iphone 5s seems just a tad bit too small in terms of screen but now I love it.

Understood--I'm also a fan of smaller sized phones but primarily because I carry my phone when I'm active as well.

I may very well get the 6+ because I could carry it instead of both my 5S and iPad Mini Retina most of the time, and just keep my 5S and use it when it's more advantageous to have a smaller phone. I realize this isn't a viable option for everyone but would work great for me and as I was planning on getting an iPad Mini retina for my eldest child for Christmas, I can hand mine down to her and put those funds towards my new toy. ;):D

Im wondering if the iphone 6+ will be a viable replacement for the ipad mini though. I say this mainly because of the width of the device and maybe too its construction. It would not surprize me if Apple in true planned obsolescence style has planned for the iphone 6+ to kick the bucket sooner than an ipad.

Your plans do sounds smart though because i'm sure a child will be happy with whatever ipad they get :D

Wishing you all the best, in whatever you decide.

I really hope it works for you. Even when I was using my note 3 I still carried my iPad mini. It's still a phone at the end of the day.

Yeah, to be honest I'm not overly optimistic but figured I'll give it another try. I used a Note 2 for a while last year as well as a Nexus 7 and while better than a 4-4.7" display, still found tasks like web browsing less than ideal on displays less than 7", especially with a 16:9 or 16:10 display ratio. I have a larger tablet as well so I won't be going tablet-free, so to speak. The rMini isn't burdensome by any means but if one device can meet my needs it would be ideal.

One device to rule them all! I remember when I got my first iPhone (3G) I thought it was great. An all in one device, a phone, a device to watch videos, read books, listen to my music etc.it never worked out like that though. Then I bought a dedicated e-reader and tablet,a chromebook and an iPod touch. Now we are thinking about smartwatches. Another device.

You haven't lived till you've had a hangouts video chat while in the shower...

Thank you S5

Lol. I was just in Hawaii with the family. My cousin has the S5.
We jumped in the pool at the JW and while swimming his phone started to ring.
He answered right there in the middle of the pool. The look on peoples faces was priceless.

I'd love have a water resistant iPhone, just don't want to sacrifice easy of use to get it. The flap covering the microUSB port would drive me nuts, especially as I like to use a charging dock at home or have my phone plugged in while it's in its car mount while driving.

Have to admit, it was nice not worrying about my phone getting wet when I used an Xperia Z1 Compact this summer. I find Sony's implementation a touch better because of the POGO pins that allow charging through a magnetic dock.

Trust me when I say it's a feature you learn to love pretty fast, and it does give me cause for pause when considering the iPhone 6.

I had an S5 as one of my work phones and that micro USB flappy port cap drove me nuts having to pry it open all the time and then make sure it is closed properly when done. If it's not closed properly, waterproof don't matter.

If this task is regarded as monumental on any level the human race is certainly doomed.

And you know what the inverse is? Water damage which is far worse.

Flap is little annoying thing but it provides water resistance. Surprising, such a flimsy flap durable so far for me. Hopefully, Samsung will implement waterproofing usb port without a flap in S6. I have seen few people going for wireless charging to avoid this inconvenience. Bigger usb port also helps little bit in terming of using flap and plugging in cable.

So what happens when people get frustrated with the flappy port cap? I guess, frustration is an unnecessary emotion we should just ignore, because Ol' Uncle Sammy has the best of intentions for us in waterproofing! Keep beating us, it's good for us! I could just as easily buy a zip lock bag.

Well we have to put up with whatever big daddy Apple decides is best for us so I don't see any difference here.

You're right, Android is much better than it used to be. Unfortunately, Samsung ruins it with TouchWiz.
.

People that say this don't understand how android works. With apple you get what they give you, with Android you get what you want. If you don't like touchwiz install a launcher. I have the S5 Active with Nova Launcher installed and its awesome. No lagging (I know people love to say this) and its fully customizable to whatever setup you want. I also have a LG G3 and I don't have a launcher on that one because I like the LG launcher just fine.

That is the thing about android, you can have any style on the phone, even an iphone theme if it suits you and to say all android phones suck is ignorant because each phone has different software on them. You have to find the one that suits you best. Its that simple.

Do specs matter? Yes and no. IOS 8 will solve a huge problem for me which is swype keyboards that I can't live without. What it won't solve is not having a file system. I can use my phone as a computer basically with directories etc and have it exactly how I want. I can even have an SD card with more files. I just drop that card into my mac and move over videos and music and put it right back in the phone and its there, easily accessible and ready to use, no syncing with itunes, no need. Plus if they LG G4 sucks I can just grab another phone thats better, don't need to worry about what they come out with because Samsung or whoever might do it better next year. With apple you are at their mercy.

Do I like my S5? Love it. Take it in the pool all the time and listen to music. Mostly I use my G3 though because the Camera is so much better even though its less Megapixels. 16mpx camera in the S5 sorry to say still sucks but the 13mpx with laser focus and OIS rocks the house and the pictures look ten thousand times better than my 5s pics. So much more detail.

With android you have choices, with apple you don't. That simple. For some people that is important, some it isn't. My wife loves her iphone because she hates fiddling with stuff and just wants her phone to take pics, record her runs and make phone calls and it does that great but boy does she bitch when she has to plug it in and sit by the wall while it charges and all I have to do is swap my battery, then she is envious.

You glossed over the part where I said Samsung ruins android. I've owned an HTC One and it was an amazing phone and the OS with HTC Sense was actually pretty good(Google Edition ROMs were better though). Unfortunately, the camera was horrible, so when I dropped it and broke the screen I didn't get another One as a replacement. Additionally, after tinkering with my OS for 6 months, I decided that rooting and 3rd party ROMs just weren't my cup of tea, so even if I do go with another android phone I'll be avoiding that aspect.

As for launchers, yes they fix most of my problems with TouchWiz, but last time I checked launchers didn't give you the ability to remove all of the extra junk Samsung installs. They also can't change the way the notification shade(and lock screen? It's been a while I may be mixing things up here...)is setup.

With the recent sales results that shows the iPhone 5s is still outselling the newer Galaxy S5, I'm curious as to why you either picked or would pick the iPhone over the GS5.

For work I have to use a mac because Final Cut is a big part of what we do and as the iPad was the first major tablet to be released so its the one we took up. And as we use those, using iPhones just makes sense. And as I spent all day with them, familiarity and all that.

And thus far I haven't seen an overwhelming reason to try anything else. I didn't need or really want a giant ass phone that barely fits in my pocket. I don't need to be able to tweak things like a geek and so on.

I'm skipping the frenzy and craziness and sticking with my S5 for awhile.

I actually sold my iPad Mini Retina and iPhone 5S while the value is high.

I'm digging my S5 and see no real reason to change right now.

I could change my mind after trying the 6 and 6+ Demos but the S5 is really solid so I need a really good reason to change.

I did have a bad experience with Android in the past. I've had urges to switch back over the last few years but I really like how smooth iOS runs. The continuity beteeen my phone/tablet/laptop has been great since I've made the switch. For that reason I've been willing to sacrifice screen size until my next upgrade date.

You changed you mind good to see. I just read this on another thread from a couple of weeks ago. Good to see you enjoy the iPhone :)

Switched out silver for gold 64gb, black leather case was replaced black silicone.

Updated memory with.99 cent per month iCloud 20gb bump.

Running SwiftKey for keyboard.

And really really liking it so far. My S5 is getting pretty dusty at the moment.

iOS 8 is far more versatile that I expected, and the phone design itself is the best Apple has done. The size and shape and weight are just pleasing to handle.
