Any fan/noise issues with the i7 during regular use outside of performance heavy programs?

Anyone know how hard the i7 pushes fans during complex Photoshop work?

Turn off the CPU turbo in Windows when gaming, it will decrease CPU temp considerably. About 10C in my late 2012 i7 iMac.

But that means your app/game was utilizing turboboost if you see a decrease in temp. Which means you reduced performance.

So, I went to the Microsoft store to take a look at the Microsoft surface studio. Now there is an elegant design! Quite amazing! Unfortunately also quite expensive. Then I went to the Apple store to look at the iMacs. In comparison they looked so dowdy. Perhaps that is what is holding up the new iMacs. If Apple just releases a slightly updated iMac, it will look outdated compared to what's on the PC side. Yet, they don't want to put the resources into a total redesign. So, they just keep selling the same old model.

I'm gonna say a all black iMac - iMac pro with built in raid (2x 2.5" spinning disc and 256gb-2tb ssd)
Ram soldiers on cos apple are c---ts
Cpu up to i7 k 4.2ghz
Wireless charging but maybe they will launch a special iPhone at same event

Ultrawide retina iMac at 34-38" too would be nice

I beg to differ -- the Surface Studio is no doubt a good looking machine but the iMac is the pinnacle of years of finesse.

Their focus is more on iOS products, so yeah they're not really spending much time or money on the iMac. Also since they have the internals and display in the same enclosure, they're hands are tied, due to cooling and available room. I like what MS did with the studio and the computer internals are in that pizza box, it provides more design options imo.

I don't think the iMac looks dowdy though, I do think its a gorgeous machine.

If there was going to be a March event I'm sure it would have been announced already.
About the focus on IOS products it's understandable because that is what gets Apple more revenue. The Mac marketshare is way smaller so it's smarter they invest more resources into the iOS platform.

At this point I'm pinning my hope on a press release update of the iMac. I'm not too greedy just give me 7th generation core i7 and USB-C. This way I have a machine I grow with.

"sources close to th.."

on *every* product, but I guess that nobody at Apple is working on an iMac, because they haven't had any "sources" to make rumors for the last 1,5 years.

Losing hope. So just to be proven wrong: NO, nothing.. iMac is dead, desktop is dead, apple is dead, steve jobs is dead. everything is dead. DEAD EDAED ADOAIEJdoaiejd

*drinks wine*

A Space Grey variant is more likely. :apple:

Turning off hyperthreading helps as well. There is an app for that & it rocks.
Don't be daft. If you're playing the latest games, the iMac can get really hot. Turning off turboboost should hardly be noticeable in terms of fps, but will help a lot with temperature. It's not like you're underclocking your GPU or anything.

:apple: No price reduction here in the UK unfortunately and not many rumours of any iMac 2017 updates either.

So many new components being released lately, :apple: must be planning something that's for sure, but when?

I am getting restless to say the least.

Come on :apple: give us some official news on the matter and put us out of our agony :)
[doublepost=1489444890][/doublepost]I am wondering how many people like me are waiting to place a order for a new IMac and not prepared to spend their money on a old iMac.
Apple must be loosing a lot with the many millions waiting for a decision!!!

They lose nothing because people in the same situation as you who are waiting are willing to pay anything Apple will charge for the new iMac (which they will) because they can't take the "old one". You should know that's the new Apple's strategy after Cook.

I look at the current shipping iMac (which is now 18 months old) whose specs aren't bad but it’s a hard pill to swallow to place an order for a 2015 model. I'd probably consider buying it if Apple lowered the price a bit. Its hard to justify paying a premium for old tech.

Dear Apple: I'm ready to make a purchase please update the iMac.

Apple only gave 1 week notice at the "Hello Again" event last October, we may still see a media event this month. If it's only a press release though I doubt we're going to see anything but spec bumps (maybe USB-C iMac too?) but typically they don't do major updates via press release.

Apple are the biggest knobheads in the world at the moment, I honestly can't believe they are screwing all of their loyal customers.

What happened to "Think Different?" Seems to me their new slogan is more like, "buy more watchbands"

They wouldn't do a late March Mac event and then immediately have an iPad event just days later.

I am waiting but not for too much longer that is for sure. I will be buying into the Windows O/S platform.
