Will Apple update the SE?

So will apple update and refresh the SE next spring?

Or will they wait until September for the next cycle and release 3 new phones of the same form factor?

Hard to say as the SE represents a new approach to the entry level iPhone for Apple. I'd bet on it not being replaced for 2 years though (i.e. will be sold in it's current form until Spring 2018).

I very much doubt that they will ever release all three iPhone sizes together. It would be a supply and logistics nightmare. Also, think of it from a business standpoint. Apple keeps their profits high throughout the year by staggering product launches. The SE came out last spring to give their phone sales a shot in the arm after they started to slow down from the 6s launch in the fall.

maybe not for two more coming year's,they will focus on their main flagship devices

So if in the future, AW sells in current iPhone numbers Apple will significantly reduce the number of available AW models to make it manageable? I think not. They've also had more different models of iPods, etc.

It's really not the same thing, but you'll see, the SE will not launch along side the flagship models in the foreseeable future.

The question is, will Apple have a separate cycle for the SE? If they keep the same pattern, eg. releasing an SE with A10 early next year, it will leave again the middle lineup, the 6S, at an odd position (more expensive, yet older gen hardware). So I don't think Apple would do that again. But that begs the question what will happen to the SE? Will the current SE be a one time thing? Will Apple completely phase out that model, putting the 6S as the entry level phone next year?

Or will Apple release a true "Special Edition" phone next year as their 10th anniv iPhone? eg. a compact iPhone with a design and color mimicking the original, but with latest spec.

Special Edition it's a special edition. It would not be special if it would repeat the next year :/. I think this version of SE will be the only one and that's it :D. IMO

I work at Best Buy and the SE has been surprisingly popular. We used to make fun of it and call it the IPhone "Sport Edition" when it first got released but amongst teenagers and the early 20's crowd, it's been selling well. So I don't think it'll end up as a one time thing. It might, at worst be one of those products that Apple quietly upgrades once every 2 years or so without much fanfare.

Beisdes that it's also popular amongst people who's rather buy an iPhone outright for reasons such as it being unlocked (Verizon version) or they damaged a 6-6S and would rather pay $449 that's $749 for a replacement iPhone

As it stands, the SE isn't really in need of an update.

It can serve as the lower cost entry point, free phones with service contract, etc.

Apple kept the iPhone 4 series going well into the launch of the iPhone 6. With the 4 being used as free phones or low cost phones for cellular plans. The SE can fall into that slot eventually and keep going until it needs an update. And then go through the cycle again.

The SE fits well into that product position.

IMO, the one thing that is badly missing from the SE is Force Touch.

I got an SE as a secondary phone. While it was fun to have a throwback size, it just felt outdated because its missing a feature that iOS10 seems to be implementing pretty well.

Also, the front camera sucks. The screen resolution is horrible. And it has a headphone jack. What is this, 1915?!? Nobody wants headphone jacks anymore.

Well, it's technically called 3D Touch. But I agree.

I'm actually still on the 5s because it's still a really decent phone. The only things I find myself really really wanting on it are
- Apple Pay (which SE has)
- larger storage, 128GB or more
- water-resistance
- 3D touch

I think I'll live with my 5s until next spring to see if the SE gets updated with those features, particularly larger storage. If it doesn't, I'll still get the SE since it likely won't update for at least another year and I don't want to go that long without getting going with Apple Pay.

With all the "tenth anniversary" talk it wouldn't surprise me if they launch s revised 4 inch phone around then too. Or maybe not. Might cannibalize some sales. Who knows?

Do you work for a tech site or something? A lot of the threads you start seem to be fishing for general input rather than questions regular people ask. Not saying its good or bad I'm just curious.
