I don't think they will. I'm pretty sure the reason why they made it in the first place was because they had so many 5s parts leftover. So apple came up with a clever plan to get rid of it and make a ton of money doing so...

All they have to do is add the black colour to the SE and they would have my money. I was kind of hoping that they were going to do that during the iPhone event. The specs are all good enough for me right now because I will keep the 7 as my main and the SE as a back up/secondary line.

And mine as well. Still not crazy about my 6S screen size, so not going for the 7 in black. Can live without 3D force touch.

SE will definitely get an update in 2018, but it all depends on how well it is selling. I absolutely love my SE, and I will be looking forward for an update.

For me, no thanks.

7/7+ isn't a tablet size...the mini 4 as a phone would be.

It depends on what you do with your phone. For me, it essentially acts as a computer when I don't have mine in front of me. I've been editing photos on my phone since the 3 (back when Flickr made you send your photos via email because there wasn't an option to tap into the photo library via safari and I believe they haven't made an app yet, not that I use apps much if they are website based).

I use mine to pull up excel sheets (again way back when, 2007) that clients send me via attachement in my email, to cross reference and fulfill orders.

I also use mine to play games (huge fan of all the silly ones, clashes of clan included).

I draw the line at watching my shows though, and that's what my iPad is for. I've probably spent 2 grand easily over the last few years in iBooks.

If you do all that on a small screen like the 5 or SE; kudos. if you don't, and that's why having a SE is good for you, good for you.

Folks who do more and like the real estate to go with it wouldn't love SE.
You are using the iPhone a tablet here in these examples. You are saying it's not tablet sized but you are using it just like a tablet. Nothing wrong with that. The 7/7+ is more a tablet that just happnes to be able to make phone calls now. The phone call part is a secondary or tertiary feature to all the other things you can do with the iPhones of that size.

I would say many people use the 5/5+/SE as primarily a phone and only do a little other work on it. That's how I use my 5 (might soon be forced to be an SE). It's mostly a phone with only a little use as a tablet for me.

What if the SE update will be the new Steve Job's 10th Anniv. Edition?:p

They have a shrine for Steve at Infinity Loop am sure but looks to me, Apple has made it clear is under new management (and design). There was 2 major camps at Apple, Jobs and Forestall and Ive and Others. While Jobs was there, you knew who won.

The SE was an interesting play by Apple when they released it with the same specs as the current generation iPhone at a mid-range price. The more I think about it, the more I think I would like a 4-inch phone again... Do you guys think Apple will upgrade the SE come spring with the specs of the 7 like A10, new camera and water resistance?

Good question. If I had to guess, I don't think it will be updated in the Spring. That's not to say it won't be updated at all, but I don't see the SE being updated annually, at least in terms as the September iPhone Keynote.

If the SE does see an update in March, I think it would the A10, additional color, camera upgrade and water resistance is a possibility. But again, Apple kept the price point affordable, which sacrificed some of the key features the iPhone 6s had, with lack
Of 3D Touch, older Touch ID, ect.

I'd be surprised if they didn't update it. My understanding is that it was reasonably successful, and it would seem odd to make the SE a one off. I think Apple has settled into a 3 form factor line up-- which is still remarkably few for such a large customer base.

Could be wrong though...

I'd be surprised too. However, I think it would be a great line up if they had three different sizes with the same form factor. Not sure if this is technically possible but it would make sense to have a smaller phone with the new design since the SE was so popular.

The SE was definitely popular. Some who ordered the SE at launch, didn't even receive theirs until late May. I owned one and sold it last month. It was a stellar iPhone, with the exception of the screen Resolution and sub par speaker quality.

The reason I feel the SE may not be updated in March, is its been rumored Apple may be releasing three sizes iPhone 8 variants in September 2017. If this is the case, with an updated SE, that would have a total of four iPhone models, assuming Apple does not discontinue the 6s from the line up.

Ah, so it's mostly a difference in naming convention... I'm not sure there will be a model named SE, but I'm pretty sure they'll stick with 3 sizes. You're right though, if they decide to go with 3 sizes of the same model, they may hold off until fall for all 3.

Actually, not seeing a spring release might serve as confirmation that the 2017 iPhone will be released in 3 sizes...

My guess would be no. I see them maybe keeping it around for another year and probably dropping the price.

Why would they? Its an okay phone I guess but they wont put in new screen, 3dtouch, new home button and so on so no need to update it. Maybe they add larger storage but that's probably it.

I see the SE refresh as part of their marketing strategy. Samsung moved the Galaxy S launch to the spring so they didn't have to compete with Apple for attention. Then launched the Note in the fall to try and steal some thunder from the iPhone launch as well. The spring SE refresh gives Apple a chance to steel some attention away from Samsung and the Galaxy S.

I think there's a better chance Apple drops the SE and instead incorporates the 4" form factor into their flagship lineup. That's what I would rather see anyway.

That will require a brand new assembly line. Keeping 5 shape that stuff is already paid for.

Will see.

Huh? Things change every year with a new design, whether it be internal only or external, too.

As if it would actually be hard for Apple to make a third size phone.

I doubt Apple will refresh the SE anytime soon. Apple seems to continue producing certain devices like iPad 2, up until the point where they are nearly obsolete. That's what I predict for the SE.

The SE is an odd beast. Primarily it seems to be Apple's first attempt at a budget phone (to stem the loss of market share particularly in some emerging markets), with the nice side effect that it makes people who prefer a compact form factor (like me) happy. I don't see how they can carry the approach of using a revamped old model over to the next generation though. Perhaps they will have a newly designed budget phone in the future. In any case, I hope that a compact phone will become a first class citizen in their lineup ...
