Someone please help me understand. I feel like these statements are contradicting. FTR: My iPhone got stolen a week ago so I don't have one now but I do have a fan account. What does this mean?: You are not eligible to upgrade at a discounted price due to your length of service. However, you may still purchase a phone/device at the full price. Our records indicate that you will be eligible for an upgrade at a discounted price on 11/20/2010

It shows an 8GB 3G is $299.

It means that you can get an iphone 3G right now for $299 by signing a new 2 year contract.
To get the full subsidy you have to wait till 11/20/2010

Hmmm... I figure this a good deal because I just (re) signed up with ATT in June, so I have only been with them (contractually) 6 months... I hope the 4th gen deal works out for me. I'll be happy with anything under $399. Yes I know I don't "deserve" it because my contract but I want it and hope they let me. And I don't feel like going back and quoting me but to the bastard who is trying to be the hero writing 9 paragraphs and saying I'm whining - you can chill out. I know what I signed up for and am stating I hope they do like they did last year. Obviously they think they need to make it a little more fair or they wouldn't have done it last year.

so glad i didn't upgrade to the 3Gs from a 3G. it will be a no brainer to upgrade. i believe it will be worth the upgrade this time.:D

So glad I upgraded from the 3G to the 3GS. I dont experience any of the lag associated with the older models and the video camera comes handy.
I will probably keep upgrading each year. Selling my old 3GS will more than make up for the subsidy towards the new iphone and I get to enjoy the new model without waiting 2 years.

I have found the upgrade formula, by doing some experimentation. Your individual line service for voice+ data+ text plan must be over $100 before taxes, and then your full subsidy date changes to 12 months. The navigation feature doesn't help you in this regard, or a lot of those other add-on features. It's just the voice plan fee + data plan fee + texting plan fee that are used. So if you have the 900 minutes plan (59.99) + iphone data (30) + unlimited texting (20), that puts you over the top and into the 12 month upgrade bracket. So if you purchased the 3GS back when it was first released, and concerned about getting the new one at the advertised price this summer, then just make sure your plan is what I just described or higher.

I have not experimented with the family plan, maybe somebody else can fill us in on that.

i bought my 3G in November of 2008 and when i check my upgrade eligibility online it says:

"iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price, along with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 04/22/2010"

so since the new iPhone will be coming out a couple months after 4/22/2010, does that mean ill be able to upgrade to the new iPhone for the cheapest price when it comes out?

Im with rogers in canada. I upgraded my phone less then a year ago, got an lg vu, a few weeks ago i went into the rogers store and asked how much i could get a 16g 3GS for and i paid $300, good deal considering it had only been 11 months since my last upgrade

It says "full discount", so yes after 4/22.

I bought my 3GS on 6/27 last year as a single, then switched to a family plan a month later and now have 4 lines on the plan. I qualify for a full iPhone discount on 6/28 of this year. However, the other 3 lines are all 20 months. I bought my daughter a 3GS in July of last year (about a month after mine), but she only qualifies for a full discount in March of 2011. Odd, but hey I make the payments so I get the benefits!

Is that $100 threshold also before discounts? In other words, let's say I'm on the $59.99 plan plus the iphone data at $30 plus unlimited text at $20 - that puts my over $100; however, I get a 15% discount on everything but the texting plan so that brings me below $100. Would I still qualify?

Haha, it all starts again. You won't get any sympathy from me as a 3G user when I got mine in July. Plus originally it said I could get a upgrade in dec. 09, now it says mar. 10, wtf? not like i was going to get the 3GS at that point anyways, still seems silly
