will "lost in a bar" be as epic as "elevator picture"

I like the "source" reference. That can be used to come up with any crap they want to print. My source (the guy in the pizza store) told me the new iPhone would have two batteries, a quad core, and really small fans to cool it off.
+1. Gizmodo could not show the apple logo on the screen because it's a fake. If not, why does he not show the itunes screen?

I personally would love this style. It looks great to my eyes. Who knows though. I'm personally of the opinion that it was an Apple engineered leak, otherwise they would be ALLLL over them

Anyone that still thinks it is fake has some serious issues at hand.
I think the new design is far better than all previous iphones, i mean look at the other phones on the market. they are all looking pretty similar now. things need to be spiced up! this is going to be big!!
I am convinced by the Gizmodo story for the following reasons:
1) A phone with a nearly-identical appearance was photographed by a Chinese iPhone rumors site.
2) The internal components are polished, professionally-designed, and clearly fitted to this prototype's case.
3) Gizmodo's videos prove that this is not a rendering or Photoshopped.
4) Gizmodo is an established site with a lot to lose if it is found to have perpetrated a hoax. There is no way that their short-term gain from a few million hits would outweigh the long-term damage to their reputation.
5) Creating a fake or decoy which would fool the tech-savvy folks at Gizmodo when they have unlimited physical access to the device and the ability to do a complete teardown would be prohibitively expensive, even supposing someone (Apple?) the ability to do so. I cannot posit any motive for Apple in doing this that would even approach justifying the cost. And, whatever his other quirks, Steve Jobs is definitely a bottom-line kind of guy.

Because they've got a once-in-a-lifetime scoop and their not dumb enough to blow their wad on a single story? They gave us enough to convince most of us but keep us coming back for more.
1 - The author contradicted themself in their own article. First, they say it's a fake, or else they can connect to iTunes and download 4.0 Beta for the device. Then, they say someone took the components out of a 3GS and put them in a Chinese knockoff. Then wouldn't they be able to connect it to iTunes?
2 - To get a beta, you need to be able to connect the phone to iTunes and find the UDID , and then submit it to Apple as a developer's phone. I'm sure if Apple saw this UDID attempt to be registered, they would deny the registration. Or if it's automated, it wouldn't go through, as it's not a recognized UDID for a retail model.
3 - If it is an iPhone prototype, there would not be a beta available through iTunes. Only Betas for released and compatible devices would be available, those being iPhone 1,2 and iPhone 2,1.
I'm not convienced and people are going to belive what they want to. And it's going to make me smile they they are shown this is a fake in june when the real IP4G is introduced

Apple Forced the devs that did have the Ipad to keep it in a room with no windows. Under lock and key and that was done for a product. That had been unveiled already.
So tell me this guys. If they went to all of that fuss over the keeping the ipad under lock and key then why would they just allow the ip4G to be leaked. And feel free to ignore this point because i know alot of people on here ignore logic

only way I would believe it to be real would be at WWDC and Steve Jobs shows the world the new iPhone until then it's just a real good fake iPhone to stir up excitement/attention, no one can say it's real till apple officially announce and demo the new iPhone plain and simple
There could be a number of reasons, such as Apple being a lot less strict with keeping the new iPhone safe because it's just an update to a new model, when the iPad was actually a new product. Or possibly because it's easy to keep an iPhone low-key in public because they can just put it in a case and make it look like another phone, the iPad, not so much. And you say that they "just allow the iPhone 4G to be leaked". But they probably didn't, it just happened.
EDIT: I also find it very hard to believe that both Engadget and Gizmodo, as well respected websites, would risk their reputations over the same rumor they don't have a strong reason to believe.

Don't know if this was discussed already but with this thing continuing to gain steam... Do you guys think the "lost in the bar" story will replace the "pictures in an elevator" as the famous reference made when discussing leaks... Granted I wasn't around in the Apple world when that happened so maybe some of you folks that were can chime in. Was the story this big and widely discussed?

It's a well established fact that Apple gave several hundred iPhones out to testers before the 2G was announced - they need to to test things like cell phone antenna reception.
Also worth noting the iPad was leaked, more than once. Not very early like this, but most stuff has been leaked in the last couple of years.
