Will MMS cripple the network?

It's bad enough as it is, and AT&T knew what they were doing when they delayed it to this point. They wouldn't have been able to keep up with it when the 3GS first came out.

However even still, it's bad now, especially in major cities, and I can't imagine all the pictures and videos that will start being sent in a couple days helping matters.
 
I'm more worried about the iphone forum getting clogged with MMS threads rather than att's already crippled network.. :rolleyes:
 
Look at the people posting that video and photo transfers aren't that good of quality.

I'm sure they could beat the crap out of videos and photos to make them pretty small. I don't think the over-use will cripple the network any more than it already is.

Look at most people's usage too. Does anybody really constantly send MMS's all day every day?

If I use it more than once a day, it's a rare occasion. I've lived without MMS. I had it when I switched from my 2G to a blackberry Bold and didn't use it that much, but it was nice to have when the opportunity presented itself.

I think stressing the network is a load of crap. You're going to use a lot more bandwidth uploading something to youtube or MobileMe than you ever will sending a MMS.

Hell the most stress AT&T is going to see is in the first couple days when people are just using it to see if it works. Then it will die off dramatically.
 
when the pics get sent to someone else who has an iPhone do they come in the same quality and size...after you save it of course.

This will be different from the current situation how? (I got an iPhone, an iPhone 3G, and an iPhone 3GS on their respective launch days that have all been on AT&T's network, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Verizon iPhone if one every becomes available)

With out working communications between countries, attacks will be launched and we will enter the biggest war mankind has ever seen. The fight for global satellites to rebuild cause nuclear attacks on the US and China. Mankind will be force to give up dignity and return to their savage instincts in the fight for survival. On September 25, 2009, AT&T will launch MMS for iPhone, forever changing the world as we know it and leading to the end of mankind.



Or, everything could be fine and dandy!

Then you my friend are unknown to the fact that we too have had it for many years. Just not on the iPhone.

Those people praising Verizon's network, might I add that AT&T's 9 Million iPhone customers consumer the same data as 90 Million other smartphone users.

So, put the strain of 90 Million smartphone users on Verizon's so called ultimate network, and watch it crawl also. In fact, it might actually come to a screeching halt seeing as Verizon idiotic engineers don't know how to handle such traffic. AT&T on the other hand knows first hand what it feels like.

I'm sure MMS will be fine. If it isn't I will bitch at AT&T because they delayed it to be "ready" and if their ready isn't enough, it won't matter, I'll take it to court.

Initially, things might be bogged down a bit but I think MMS is being way overhyped. It's one of those things where we feel like we are missing out on something only because it isn't there.

We'll see. I think AT&T would have been better served to roll out MMS over a longer period of time. The way they are doing it right now, a lot of people don't even realize they have the option. Not everyone frequents iPhone forums and has the most up-to-date news. There are at least 6 people I work with who didn't even realize there was going to be an MMS update and my sister still thinks her 2G will get the option.

Yeah? tell that to the brit in another thread who wants to sue the Apple Store for 15 euro because when they switch out his iPhone, they won't refund him the cost of the screen protector he has on it.

The USA isn't the only country that have litigious-happy residents.

Just so you know, I am not American, I am Honduran, but if I am paying for X service, I'd be dam sure to get X service.

In this case, AT&T made a bold promise to deliver MMS late in exchange for flawless service of MMS when the time comes. So, breaking such promise holds legal grounds to ask for compensation, in my case, the large amount of $ I am paying.

I like AT&T, and have put up with them because I know what they are going thru (I study EE, so I know what airwaves can be like). However, if they delay something to be ready, they dam sure be ready.

My nokia had it, my BB 8820 had it, my iphone will, but I don't really need it, email works just as well if I really want to send pictures.
 
I'm not saying MMS is a real burden in particular, just that this is another layer of weight.
 
I hope everyone spams the AT&T network with iPhone MMS messages.

That would be hilarious if everyone sent MMS messages to everyone they know on the 25th.

Perhaps we can just communicate in JUST MMS messages. No more text messages... attach a photo to EVERYTHING!

Question: How come no other country has MMS problems with their carrier? All other carriers were ready and had no problem enabling MMS. Hmm.

To be fair, MMS usage in Europe had been widespread for years before the iPhone came on the scene. Apple eventually enabling MMS on the iPhone made no difference over here.
