HI guys, I have just got the new S4 but now that the new iPhone is coming out I think I may have made a mistake.

The S4 does lots of things brilliantly but I have a Mac and ipad etc at home and the new iPhone is a week away.

Should I return it and get a 5S? It is hard to know since the phone isn't even out yet and will cost an extra £150 up from I am guessing.

What should I do?

Stick with the S4 mate. The yearly updates to the iPhone are minimal and at best it would just be on par with the S4 but even this is doubtful.

I would make my own choices and not ask other to do it for me. Your choice of phone must be yours. If you just bought the S4, return it and the 5S will be here soon.:)

Wait until sept 10, watch the keynote, decide.

If you like your phone, don't watch the keynote. Then you'll never know what you're missing. I guess you'll have to avoid this place too.

If you're pretty ingrained in the iOS/Apple ecosystem then yes get the 5S.

I think the 5S will be a refresh of the iPhone 5, better internals, a new feature or two (like colors or something). The advantage that the iPhone has for Mac users is that you if you use iTunes, iCloud, iWork and Apple's other services then the iPhone is better because it seamlessly integrates those items, like calendar and contacts being synced.

The S4 is no slouch, its a great phone, it has different features and advantages. While it can synchronize contacts, music, calendar etc, its on Google services.

You need to figure out which platform is a better fit for you, and then select the phone.

Just my $.02

I have an S4 and don't plan on changing to the 5S at this time. Possible but Apple will need to impress big time.

I still have my IPhone 5 however.

I have very low expectations on what apple will release on the 5S. It seems the "S" model is a minor update when compared to the prior release. I see faster innards and color as I mention.

I'm in the same boat as you. I figured I'd wait until the event since its so close but I'm very tempted to order a Google Edition S4. I think you just need to decide if you want Android or iOS. I don't believe a hardware spec bump is enough to justify staying on iOS if you'd rather be on android.

I'm absolutely certain the 5S will be infinitely better than the S4. But I already think the iPhone 5 is a far better device than the S4 so.... :) Those who switched to the Galaxy in the last year will probably find it very difficult not to switch back when the 5S is unveiled.

It depends on what better means to you. I think the iPhone 5 is better than the S4. To me it's a higher quality piece of hardware and more importantly has iOS. But if your an Android fan no iOS phone is going to float your boat. But I will say an iPhone will blend with your notebook and tablet very well. That's the reason I originally got an iPhone to begin with, consolidate apps. Got tired of paying for an iOS and Android version of the same app. Then you seamless syncing and iCloud syncing among other very useful features. Apple is very very good at making their products work very well together.

Do you not mind customizing your phone to work well with your devices, or do you just want your phone to work easily out of the box? Since you mentioned you also have an iPad and a Mac, it seems like you just want your phone to work easily with your other devices out of the box. I'd return the S4 and switch to an iPhone. I think it's a pain in the ****ing ass having to customize your Android device to work perfectly for certain tasks. What exactly do you want to use your phone for anyway? If you're into gaming, iOS is still the best as far as app selection.

Hey both phones are great! But what can you do with an iphone that you cannot do with your S4? You can still sync all of your pictures and contacts and calendar across Apple devices and non Apple devices. Get Dropbox and it will sync all pictures taken from your S4 to your iMac and your iPad. Or any other computer you have. You can also sync all of your contacts and calendar to Google and it will sync everything to your S4 and iMac and iPad.
I have a rMBP and Win 8 laptop an iMac an S4 and an iPad and sync all my pictures and contacts and calendar and data and music to all of my devices. They all have the exact same stuff synced at all times......

Why do you think you made a mistake?
What is the reason you would prefer the 5S to the S4? If for ecosystem, then why did you choose the S4 over the iPhone 5 in the first place?

You already have your answer, go look at the iphone 5 and just add a fingerprint sensor to it and see if that fits your needs better than the S4. Most everything else will be minor spec bumps which are pretty much useless functionally, except maybe for a minor battery bump which is always useful, but I doubt it will be significant.

Something obviously made you choose a S4 in the first place, so I am presuming you find Android a viable alternative, have some interest in a larger screen phone, and aren't so locked down by the iOS ecosystem that you absolutely need every device to be an Apple device.

As such, I'd keep the S4 - because at this particular time I think Android/Samsung have comparatively more exciting stuff on offer. The 5S is just another S upgrade, nothing really WOW will be happening with it. And you get to use iOS7 on your iPad anyway.

So you could take the opportunity to get to know the S4 and Android, play around with them and see what they can do. Then, next year - that'd be the time to look out for a really exciting iPhone, methinks. Then you could sell the S4, probably at a decent used rate, and get a new, reinvented iPhone.

If you sell the S4 already, chances are you won't even know what you missed. - I got my first Android phone this spring and I am still discovering new stuff to do with it, though it took me a few weeks to really understand what a powerhouse it is. My Note 2 is actually fun, as opposed to just useful like the iPhone was for me. But though I'm not very excited about the new iPhones coming this fall, I'll sure as hell have my eyes open for what comes next year. And I'd love nothing more than to be blown away by the iPhone 6. Right now though - this is Android's year, if you ask me.

All subjective advice of course, but you asked for it :D

My girlfriend and I both owned the S4 for a single day and returned them. Nice specs but it doesn't operate like an iphone. Not close enough for us to really like it anyway.

To be honest I think you need more than one day to make a decision. A few years ago I tried a HTC desire for a day and ended up sending it back as it seemed to unfamiliar and hard to get used to.
I regret not giving it more time. Credit to apple for providing an ecosystem that doesn't need much learning, but if you're trying android I would say you need at least a week to decide if it's for you.

This is totally up to you.

I've been an iPhone user since the beginning, but have pretty much always been interested/slightly jealous even in Android and WP.

Finally, this summer, I picked up a Lumia and decided, for many reasons that I won't get into, that it wasn't for me.

Just tried the same thing with the Moto X. It was much better, but there was a lot of stuff in Android that I think is just really annoying and poorly done.

I'll be going with the 5S.

The best thing that you can do, is try all of this yourself and make the decision that is right for you.

I have an iPhone 5....waiting to see the keynote before I do anything

Quite like the look of the note 3 with the gear

Would be my phone / tablet / gadget all combined

Especially seen as my eyesight is going downhill rapid

No we really didn't need to. The minute I was listening to the BBC app in the car and it shut off because I got a text message, I knew this was not the phone for me. There were several other issues as well. Not being able to easily sync music playlists or podcasts, the headphones were junk, the phone didn't want to connect to the mac 75% of the time. The screen was washed out and hardly visible in direct sunlight. The alarms didn't go off, making me late for work that first day. The netflix app reset the show to the beginning after switching to an other app and then back again. The music would hickup when switching apps. The lack of a separate mute switch was annoying.

I can go on and on. My girlfriend was having similar issues. Altogeher Android phones are power feature packed little devices with very nice specs, but they do not operate with the same consistency and overall userfriendly predictability that an iphone does. There were some cool features like the photo gallery and the widgets. But generally speaking I learned my lesson, stick with an iphone.
