I guess what I am kind of saying is I expect more from Apple. Is it fair? Probably not but I know the amazing potential they have for their products and as of late it seems they are holding the reigns back and not delivering the elite product we know they can.

Samsung and other device companies I think see this and have thrown so many different things out there to sway the market from Apple during this lull if you will and are striking while they can.

Again,I am a fan of both and not the name. Give me a good product and I will buy it no matter the name on the back.

I think we have higher expectations for Apple since the iPhone revolutionized the way we look at phones forever, at least for me.

Agreed, I moved to android just due to the product they were offering. Nothing to do with wether it was apple or android.

Apple do need to step their game up and maybe they will with the iphone 6 but even then when they bring that out the S5 and Note 4 will be out and no doubt even better as well.

I think you're right. But I also think Samsung has done a good job at throwing all kinds of features that seem cool to people (when the reality is a lot of us deactivate those features) and make it seem like Apple is "holding stuff back" and Samsung isn't.

I think the reality is simply Apple waits to polish something before they release it, whereas others don't.

The two biggest contradictions to the above statement are Siri and Maps - both of which Apple likely felt they HAD to release in order to make them better. But just look at all the hate they garnered because of those releases. You think Apple wants to just throw everything they have into an iPhone NOW before they can properly test and polish?

Plus - Apple has a philosophy. They release features based on that philosophy, which many here don't agree with.

Apple does has a philosophy. And in the past they haven't had to "race for specs" or features. They have a very loyal following and have great brand recognition. I am not predicting doom for Apple - but one does have to wonder how long they can maintain the way things "always have been" for them and remain competitive. We know they make record profits now and are certainly not hurting. But now they genuinely have greater competition. And people can debate all day how Apple doesn't listen to customers or pay attention to competition - but if you've read any of the court documents, listened to interviews, etc - you'll know that's simply not true. It would also be completely irresponsible to not pay attention to your competition.

Point is - the iPad Mini, larger phone, cheaper phone - these are steps in the right direction. You can argue whether they were inevitable or reactions to competition. But ultimately - Apple is reactive. Which is a GREAT thing. For everyone. No matter what platform you use or prefer.

You really can't win with some people when it comes to Apple. And as much as those want to put the blame on haters and fans of Android - a lot of the internal pissing and moaning comes from forum members who love Apple products. And rightfully so - they are the ones invested.

If you ACTUALLY look into the changes, you'd find they are IN FACT bigger upgrades than most of you here make them out to be.

But alas - it's all GHz and MPs with this bunch.......whatever.

Looking forward to the 5S announcement. Neither is/will be better than the other overall - its about what works best for each individual.

Agreed - there is obviously a reactive component, though they do plan years in advance so its hard to tell when exactly they began reacting. Samsung is in the enviable position of controlling their supply line whereas it takes a great deal for Apple to work theirs.

The cheaper iPhone and larger iPhone rumors are indeed steps in the right direction. I also think they can do these things and still work within their philosophy.

I'd also say - look at sales numbers, phone-to-phone. While Android as a whole, and even Samsung may "dominate Apple", saturating the market is the primary reason why. If you look at Galaxy line vs iPhone sales, the iPhone is still the king.

It'll be quite interesting to see how the 5C and the iPhone's availability on China's largest telco affect the numbers. Its actually quite shocking Apple's been able to hold any kind of substantial numbers in China without their devices being available to 60% of the country's subscriber base.
