I dont know enough about how a product’s mention in a X.x update correlates to the product’s release date.

Hopefully and it appears likely! They were also mentioned in 15.2 and probably already shipped with that version, so if they announce them alongside the release of 15.3 it’s possible that the Airs will have a day 1 software update.

I’m not sure if Apple has the ability to update them to 15.3 “in the box” a la the new iPhones

Should be imminent. We know M4 MacBook Air will likely ship with macOS 15.2. This puts it in the January or February timeframe.

Doesn’t seem like it. The M2 and M3 Airs have nearly identical BTO delivery dates which suggests no change to supply chain.

Based on the current supply chain indicators, do you think they will ship with 15.2 well after 15.3 is released? Or will they have a way to update all the units with 15.3 before launch?

I expect it ship with 15.3. Apple finalizes OS builds several weeks before it's shared publicly. This similar to how new iPhones each year get loaded with final versions of iOS a month before shipping.

i think we wont see the macbook air m4 till march with some special 15.3 build or who knows 15.3.1? if there is an update by then

the macbook air m3 was released with macOS 14.4 though so who knows at this point
but i dont think 15.4 is scheduled for release till april

Can't imagine they would release a new model before the end of the holiday return period. I'd bet mid February or early March.

My money is still with this media product briefing next week or so that's scheduled for the Powerbeats pro 2...they wouldn't just get media together just for those and there isn't an event needed for a M4 MacBook Air.

Something is happening in mid-February. There is no reason for M2 BTO to take an additional week compared to M3. This suggests M2 orders are being deferred. My guess is M2 is being dropped and M4 launching week of Feb 10.

There's a media get together planned for next week?

Yep! 15” M3 BTO is similarly deferred to Feb 11-13, which likely means that it will be dropped and replaced by 15” M4.
