I keep hearing some people state that they will not upgrade until the notch is fully gone, the 2021 iPhones will most likely have a reduced notch and I'm fairly certain we won't be seeing a notch-free phone for another 3 years or so.

What are you guys planning to do? The only roadmap to having the lastest iOS in the near future without a notch is the iPhone SE 2020.

The 12 Pro Max is my first notched iPhone, coming from the 8 Plus. I don’t see what the fuss is about, to tell the truth. Especially on the Pro Max, it’s such a large display that the notch seems like nothing. I never imagined that the increase in screen real estate would be so pronounced coming from a plus sized phone with almost the same footprint.

I'd never buy an OLED iPhone.
A friend let me play with his XS Max for a while. What a flickering piece of garbage. I couldn't tolerate looking at it for long. Eyestrain. Pity. Big screen, good speaker and camera- but deadly display. Taking the toxic OLED screen out of the equation, the notch when viewing stuff in landscape mode was a major flaw in my mind. I couldn't get over it.
After playing with that XS Max for a short while, I knew id never use (no less buy) an iPhone with that screen tech

I have the 2x SE 2020 with monthly AC+. For me, the issue is both notch + migraine with other OLED devices I've used. I'd settle for reduced, though.

I'll be trying the iPhone 12 mini one of these days but if that doesn't work out, I expect I'll be using the SE 2020 as long as practical.

I dont like the Notch and Face ID combo, as i personally see it as compromising and overkill. Touch ID is just better for me personally, its reliable, durable and does not need a notch to house sensors for 3D facial scanning. So i held off buying a Face ID iphone until the Iphone 12 Mini came along. I just couldnt resist its compact size and the flat edge, Iphone 4 design. Anyway, Face ID is OK the way it works for biometric authentication, but its no good for me as the scanners give me eye strain/pressure, so i have had to turn it off and use PIN code. So i have this notch on my iphone 12 mini which serves no purpose whatsoever, apart from housing the selfie camera.

The solution for me is for Apple to introduce power button Touch ID iphones, as they have the tech already as used in the ipad air 4. The issue of the selfie camera remains though, unless they house it in a slim bezel.

Luckily there’s an iPhone available for that small subset of people who cannot live with the notch.

Coming from an 8 Plus to a 12 Pro Max...I don’t even notice the notch one bit at all! In fact, I wonder to myself why I didn’t upgrade sooner to an iPhone with full screen. Looking at the 8 Plus now with those two huge bezels is like night and day...looks like a toy! Don’t get me wrong though, it was still a great phone!

The notch doesn’t bother me at all... actually I barely notice it. I like the notch, I think it is needed. When taking photos you don’t see it. When watching videos, you don’t see it. It’s only visible with minor use like the web, apps, Home Screen. So it’s not a big deal. I don’t know why there are so many complaints. When the notch is gone, the complaints will be about something else.....

Only time the notch would really bother me would be on the 5.4" mini since it takes up such a huge portion along the top of the display.

I was too in the "never notch" camp, but I caved in and purchased the iPhone 12 mini and don't regret it yet.

I think the challenging thing to accept is that the notch is an objectively bad design choice by apple. It was adopted by android handset makers and almost all have moved to a hole punch solution for the front facing camera.

I understand WHY apple made the decision, but it doesn't mean it was necessarily the most elegant solution on a device that was priced at $1,000 initially at launch.

Oh and I am still not a big fan of OLED, but I was intrigued with the small form factor to set that aside. First notchless, top of the line flagship apple releases I am going back to that.

The notch is mute on the mini as the screen is too small for media, the pro max notch ruins a big full screen experience.

Oh help us.

Denying yourself an iPhone solely because of Notch hatred would have to be the most ridiculous reason in the history of smartphones.

You get more screen in a smaller form factor.

Though, with the Pandemic/masks impacting Face ID, I’d understand if people went for the SE, as Passcode entry for unlocking/Apple Pay is a PITA.

It was adopted by android handset makers and almost all have moved to a hole punch solution for the front facing camera.

Android makers never had a secure Face Unlock system, so they stuck with Touch ID & ditched the notch.
