With that said, now that TouchID power button, a small pinhole/teardrop notch is all we need for the selfie camera.

The larger bezels on the iPad Pro and Air 4 seem more of a design choice than a technical limitation.

Definitely prefer a pinhole, or slim bezel to house the Selfie camera with Ipad Air 4 power button Touch ID. A teardrop notch is almost as worse than the current notch in my opinion (aesthetically speaking).

Why is that? If it were that objectively bad I would certainly have experienced some issue that you can predict?
It’s a bad design choice that goes against what the average person expects while looking through a screen or window. Clean lines exist for a reason.

Ever wonder why when taking a screenshot or a picture on your device the notch is missing? Why is that? Because it would look ridiculous on any device you export the image to.

Why are we talking about a design choice nearly 4 years after its initial reveal? It’s because it still annoys enough consumers, app designers (my field) that had to consider an unconventional approach and all the other fringe arguments others can come up with such as battery percentage now hidden on the control center etc, etc. I am reminded how dumb it looks when I open up the iPhone simulator after any small change I make in Xcode.

“I don’t even notice it anymore” is a weak argument. It shouldn’t even be a topic of discussion.

If it is, it’s objectively bad design.

also for those with Oled strain im afraid Oled is going to be a thing for at least 2 more years until the next redesign and then hopefully we get mini led or micro led. personally oled doesn't bother me. also from what i hear its just the type of oled apple uses, ive heard of people that had issues on iphones but not android

Always surprised when I hear people say the bezels serve no purpose. I use mine all the time to hold the phone and not worry about activating some feature. Bezels=useful.

I keep hearing some people state that they will not upgrade until the notch is fully gone, the 2021 iPhones will most likely have a reduced notch and I'm fairly certain we won't be seeing a notch-free phone for another 3 years or so.
Who cares what *they* will do? The only thing that matters is what will *you* do.

Oh help us.

Denying yourself an iPhone solely because of Notch hatred would have to be the most ridiculous reason in the history of smartphones.

You get more screen in a smaller form factor.

Though, with the Pandemic/masks impacting Face ID, I’d understand if people went for the SE, as Passcode entry for unlocking/Apple Pay is a PITA.

Android makers never had a secure Face Unlock system, so they stuck with Touch ID & ditched the notch.
Not true. My Note 20 face ID works perfectly.

I'm an android guy and probably always will be. I had to get an Iphone 12 for work. I don't even notice the notch anymore.

All the other phone manufacturers, Samsung for example, get as many posts on their forums regarding PWM issues for users.

All those you want a power button Touch ID need to remind that iPhone IS NOT an ipad, and cases are different. Unless you use it caseless, designing a good protective case for a phone with the Touch ID in the power button, good looking and not too exposed might be difficult. I vote for an under display fingerprint or nothing.

Thought this is about the notch.

If only they made the phones so you didn't have to use a case to protect the fragile egg that it is........🤷‍♂️

I dont know any modern phone that you don’t have to protect like a fragile egg. Is why, IMO, power button Touch ID is not the best solution. Under screen one would be great although.

Love the flicker free OLED, so easy on the eyes. I can stare all day, it’s glorious. The notch doesn’t get in the way for me because 6.5” screen.

I've used several iPhone cases with power button exposed. Personally, this is a non-issue for me.

If you'd prefer to wait for under display fingerprint, then by all means go ahead. I'd prefer to jump on a notchless iPhone with TouchID power button as soon as that becomes available (assuming the phone's not too big).

As less exposed parts of the phone, better. Current official cases are great.
Notchless? That will not be real until a bunch of years yet. Reduced notch will be first. Will be this year? Who knows.

It's possible if they skip FaceID in favor of TouchID power button ala-iPad Air 4. Possibly on a downmarket/lower end iPhone. I've got an iPhone SE2 right now and before that was using the iPhone 7 so that's more than fine with me.

They will not skip FaceID for sure. It’s apple... And they will not develope a new special design for that downmarket/ lower end phones that has Touch ID now. They for sure will not invest time and resources in those devices that recycles designs of older models and are destined to a minority market.

They don't need a massive redesign though. Just minor adjustments like what they did for the iPad Air 4.

I expected FaceID to trickle down to lower end iPads but given they went through all the trouble of designing TouchID for it, I expect TouchID's cheaper to do than including FaceID.

But they would need to do a big redesign to relocate the earpiece and selfie camera if they skip Face ID. Will not happen, I’m afraid.
