I think the imac will get press release in May...and they keep Arm mac for the WWDC
Possibly, but if Gurman's right that this is more of a substantial redesign of the iMac, Apple will want to take more of a victory lap than just a press release. A streamed keynote during WWDC seems probable. Or just hold it until the Fall, though I hope not.

Here you go. But I actually shaved some off of the top, or it would look ridiculous

Same increase for the 27" would be roughly 29":

Not sure if they'll do rounded corners - they probably would have done that for the new 16" Macbook first, plus there's a lot of software issues to consider (depending on how round they are, the menu bar will need to be pushed a few dozen pixels to the right).

If they did go for rounded corners it would be a good time to go back to something like the 2007 design with the rounded bezels, as opposed to keeping the bottom corners flat:

at this point with the delay etc. is really sensible to wait for WWDC.
If its actually ready and was meant to be out by now then I guess Apple will use it to showcase it at WWDC if there is any keynote. Otherwise Apple might rework the format and do individual videos showcasing each new things for macOS, iOS etc.
Ie. each product would have its own video etc. :)

actually 1080p in HiDPI looks & feels so much better for the eyes on 24".
much more readable than on a 21" or 27" 4K monitor. Well for 27" they have 5K on the real deal.

I would love to see the entry level with 256SSD, might just happen...but somehow i still have minor doubts :)
Intel gen9 for sure, esp. if it was initially already ready in Q2
smaller chin for sure also, not to make the rest of the bezel ridiculous.

would love to see more rectangles in the design, but i still think it's gonna be rounded.
picture the stupid looking design: right angles around screen but rounded at the back bulge..nop.

as far as price goes, oh well.
i can't help of going back to an article on 9to5mac with a picture of $750 wheels for mac pro.
WHEELS! A set of 4 foucking wheels. 750 dollars.
nevermind the $1000 for a freaking monitor stand.
this is disgusting, what level of decadence & snobism we've reached as a species....and how some corporations encourage this.

Since we have rumors that the 2020 iMac Pro will have a 27" display (just improved on the current one), it stands to reason that if Apple is doing a redesign to "slim the bezels", this will be like the 2018 iPad Pro:

  • The 21.5" will grow to 23" to consume the existing bezel space, but maintain the same physical dimensions (as the iPad Pro 10.5 did to become the iPad Pro 11).
  • The 27" will stay at 27" and shrink the bezels as well as shrinking the physical dimensions (as the iPad Pro 12.9 did).

The iMacs have always been well priced for what you get (crappy spinning drives in the base models aside), they're not in the same market as the Mac Pro stuff: these are consumer machines.

ya man, but even by apple standards it's disgusting...you get an entry level 2019 27" for the price of a Mac pro set of wheels and a monitor stand?!

I must have missed something. Who reported on the 27" size remaining? I have not read a single rumour mention anything other than, 'the iMac will be redesigned', but that is open to interpretation...

I am not the target market for the Mac Pro gear so I can't bring myself to get angry about it. As long as the iMac line stays competitive on price that's all I am interested in.

Ming-Chi Kuo reported it in March - https://www.macrumors.com/2020/03/03/apple-14-1-inch-macbook-pro-mini-led/

Apple is developing a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a 27-inch iMac Pro, a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro, a 16-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌, a 10.2.-inch iPad, and a 7.9-inch ‌iPad‌ mini. Kuo does not provide specific launch dates for the items with the exception of the ‌iMac Pro‌, which he says will launch in the fourth quarter of 2020, and the 7.9-inch ‌iPad‌ mini, which he says will launch in 2020.

I've been in the market for a new iMac for awhile now and periodically price out new machines because I'm now stuck at home all day and what else is there to do? A couple of days ago, a maxed out (minus the RAM) 27" iMac had a delivery date of late April. Now that same machine's "Order today, delivers" date is June 1-15.

Does this happen often? Quirk in the system or something else? Or maybe nothing to read too much into? Thought it was an interesting observation.

As fas as I understand, the Comet lake S CPU is not released yet. End of April is the rumour. Hard to think a new iMac without this CPU.

^ Maybe due to Covid 19 and less staff at supply chain factories?

I just want a more bang-for-buck, better, smaller iMac. I'd like it sooner-rather-than-later (as the ports on this one are playing Russian Roulette with me.)

I’m with you on the smaller Mac. I don’t get the fascination with the 27” — I’d prefer a 23/24” iMac with less at the bottom and less border. I’d be happy if it were a bit deeper to accommodate.

I bought a 2017 iMac to replace my 2011 — it’s been the worst Mac I’ve ever bought and is off back to them for the 3rd time to be repaired (random faults, 1 hour boot time, mail/messages locking up, Chrome and Safari losing connection to the internet (despite the rest of the computer having it), random crashing and rebooting, and freezing of various programs).

I bought the Mac new last year, but it’s the 2017 model. I’m thinking of getting it fixed and flogging it to get out of it. I was going to buy a Mac Mini and three 4K screens, but the word on the forum is that they can’t drive two 24” — let alone 3! Maybe I should wait for the 2020 to come out?

You like what you like and that's fair, but I for one loathe the notion of touchscreen on a desktop. It has to mean fingermarks whereas I want to be looking through spotless glass, and it seems unergonomic and clumsy to be reaching up from keyboard/mouse to perform operations.

I completely agree with you sir. That's great deal of physical excersion to lift your head, raise you hand and shoulder point and touch then go back to what you are doing. It isn't in line with economy of motion whatsoever, and to me that's a waist fo time and energy. I suggestlearning keyboard macros or what you call shortcuts. that takes so much out of accomplishimg tasks and reduces motion and eyes strain, a huge factor in fatigue. I would wager you obviously don't work with the Pro Apps, Final Cut Pro, or Logic Pro X, or you would wouldn't purchase a touch screen. I don't any Pro's who use touch screens for work, it would literally, physically wear them out.

for me it would be an instant buy if they reintroduce target display mode. Or even better yet a stand-alone 5k/4K display - it’s crazy how poorly designed everything else on the market is.

slimed bezels
Improved webcam or Face ID
Target display mode
Improved cooling/all flash architecture

that’s pretty much all I want lol.

Any iMac redesign should be delayed until mini LED is possible(Which it already is). Thats gonna make a bigger impact than thinner bezels, faster processors, and the height of the chin to the end user.

Forget MiniLed.... if so, they will be implemented only in the iMac Pro... they should differentiate from the normal one...
