I don't know if the new iMac has a laminated screen, I suppose it is the same as the last year model.
I have read many complaining about this issue on iMac Pro, iMac 2019 and previous models
Yes it is a true issue with these..bec apple did not sealed at 1 micron level, and i bet its the same here since it has the same design air intake through the chin.. so expect here also to have the same issue
after some time
But this will be fix in the AS imac i guess

Any gaming benchmarks for the 5500XT or 5300 GPUs? Would be interested to see how these hold up, especially the 5500.

The positive feedback on this iMac is giving me reason to rethink my strategy of getting the 24” AS iMac and a gaming PC. This latest iMac will be bigger and looks like it could give me the gaming performance I need but dropping up to £3000 to get the 5700XT feels excessive. I don’t do photo or video editing and don’t want to play the latest high-end games - more strategy and building games like Football Manager, Planet Zoo. But I’d also want to get GTA V...

My friend has an old gaming PC rig that he gave to me a while ago. It has a GE-Force GTX970.The motherboard died so will need to be replaced along with the CPU. The cost of this + expected cost of the AS iMac would be around the £1800-£2200 But I am worried that it’s only going to break again and it will become a money drain. Whereas the iMac would hopefully “just work” and last for years.

When did you order yours? Mine was ordered on August 5th..supposed to arrive 20th-27th

6th. But with express shipping. 17th to 24th.
Though i doubt it will be here by the 17th since from Ireland to were i am it feels like two days minimum.

I'm surprised they didn't have the upper and lower intake slits on the back plate.

There's one tiny vent area on the back to expel hot air. That's asking a lot along with a 'tiny fan.'

Hello DQ11,

I ordered mine on the August 4th. 7:30pm just before the Apple UK sales offices closed!

Knew if I didn't do that...if I left it a day later the American market would pile in and the lead time would balloon. ie. I was in for a long wait. I'd heard and watched previous Apple launches of all kinds.

The earlier you order the sooner it arrives seems to be the pattern.

Make no mistake. This iMac can game.

But it appears to come at a price. The fans do kick in. It's not super noisy. But they appear to engage early and I do find them distracting.

That's the price to pay for including a 10 core and 5700XT 16 of Vram.

A top tier iMac for £2299 with 8 cores and the 5500XT is a bargain. And you also get a £2299 PC. With 5k display.

More than enough for anyone who wants to play the latest games in HD. Or to the casual 'taking a break from my work' Mac gamer.

A list of cpu and gpu performances that are considered noteworthy.

1st Bench.

Two scenes from the highly regarded Blender 3D.

Results:

Bmw27: 3m0s

Classroom: 9m28s.

Note: Fans really hum along during this bench. The 'fan' gets quite loud.

Cinebench Release 20:

Multicore: 5270.

A thread ripper 1950x 16 core cpu gets 6670.

...and the 8 core 1700x AMD gets 3455.

So that's more than competitive.

Note: the fans DO kick in on this bench. And go away after it stops.

Unigine.

(Which has been known to 'break' lesser endowed gpu Macs...)

Ultra quality.

x2 A.A.

HD.

100-150fps+.

Depending on scene.

I'll do a 2440p pass later.

As horrible of a tip as that might sound, i recently fixed someones laptop by removing all the cables and putting them back in properly. She also already had a support send in set up. - She forgot to put the power plug into the wall and blamed a windows update for it. -.-
Not horrible at all. Sometimes the obvious are overlooked. That being said, I definitely tried that. Thankfully I am within my 14 days and the apple support person I spoke to decided to do an exchange instead of repair. The only downside is I just got everything restored and updated and I am without a desktop until they receive my return and then they send the replacement. If that's the worst of it, then its pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Thanks for the tip.

I actually expected more after a decade, wasn't there a bigger difference in the previous decade? I thought it supposed to accelerate.

Intel, at least, has firmly smacked into the wall in terms of Moore's Law so gains are minimal, now.

If you want big generational gains, that will be Apple Silicon Macs.

Today in MaxTech News, how to release a video with the same contend for the fourths or fifth time in one week. xD

I respect the grind though.
Haha. I like him though and think he's among the better "reviewers" on YouTube. But you're right about the content. In that way his 2020 iMac reviews are a metaphor for the iMac itself. Eight years "uploading" basically the same product. So meta!

So Apple will give me $1250 for my 2017 5K, which is half the price of the 2020 5K I am considering... They really want me to upgrade. :)

Small update after 5 days use; So far I'm very happy. I-9 10core, 5700XT, 1TB SSD, 32GB Ram.

Vectorworks rendering is a LOT quicker for me. The fans do kick in pretty quickly if I'm doing 'final' renders in large files, but that's to be expected. But using Augment3D (which is still in beta), the fan's are barely audible if on at all! Same program made my 2017 MacBook Pro extremely loud. This is huge for me, I can now train myself in an entirely new program that barely ran on my last machine. I've been watching my ram usage and realizing I should of got 64GB, as I'm hovering around 26 used in Vectorworks sometimes.

And WOW do I love having a large monitor with True Tone. my eyes feel much better already after a long day use.

longer review in the works, but overall, very happy with the GPU in particular! New desk coming soon for better 'glamor' shot.

SSDs (or mainboards with more SSD space than 512gb) are the bottleneck right now.

When you configure a new one delivery time gets bumped up by a solid week on BTO when you add more SSD space.

They've smacked into their own incompetence. TSMC has been churning out the process improvements like clockwork ... which, by the way, is a lot of the reason for why Apple Silicon is outperforming Intel chips.
