Hehehe, well there were so many things against it but the indicators that I trust are out so yeah, small one updated is what I'm now voting for.

Maybe the bigger one will be now new iMac Pro hence the delay. 24" for me is way too small (thats my work monitor and I just don't think its enough - although I have dual monitor setup at work (home now) )

I'm just excited to see the design as that will tells us so much about the future.

My wallet is ready for iPad Pro. Seeing that I have bday at the end of the month the timing with shipping etc. will probably be spot on :)

I'm so happy to have you on board!

This is going to be the longest weekend of my life! :D

This thread still alive!!! As I am the happy owner of a 27 inch 2020 iMac, I have lost track of this thread. However, my Mac at work crashed so I am looking at a new 24 inch iMac to replace it.

Fingers crossed for Tuesday. I really like an iMac without a fan so even under load it is silent.

Just checked. An M1 is 35% faster single thread and 18% lower multithread than my 2020 iMac (8-core). I take an M1 in the iMac 24 and silence...

That's a possibility, but it hasn't been rumored at all. I think the iMac Pro was just a stop-gap in between the trashcan Mac Pro and the cheesegrater Mac Pro.

I used to have a 27" iMac, but it would probably be too big for me nowadays (I currently use a MacBook Pro). 21.5" iMac is perfect if you're coming from a laptop. :)

Yeah, just imagine an iMac with Face ID. That would be so awesome!

Even if it has a fan, it'll likely never need to kick in due to Apple Silicon being so efficient. Hyped for Tuesday!

On the flip side, if it really does have an expensive 32" 6K display, they might want to position it as an "iMac Pro" with a high-core count M-series CPU, a high-end AMD GPU and 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD as they could base price it at, say, $3999.

And god help me, I'd pay it.

I guess we will see about that. No rumors so far, but the M1X chip will certainly be a beast compared to the M1 chip!

First time (and also last time) I've watched this wanker. What a douchebag!

I don't mind his leaking (even though he is not that accurate) but his personality is awful.

Regardless, tuesday should be fun

Yeah, I cannot wait for the smaller iMac to be updated next week! TIME TO PARTY!!! :D

I wonder if Apple is comfortable taking the position that the 24” of fine for “everyone else.” That’s assuming that the 32” replaces the 27” of course, but go from a $1800 27” option to a $4000 32” seems like too big of a leap.

The imac is almost a given thanks to Apples invitation in Spanish

It is useless to measure it against the M1. For future iMac it is necessary that its chip bypasses and overtakes the current bundle of i9+DGPU 5700 class.
"X" variants are often 90% faster than the regular variants.

Also...

Yeah, iMac Pro was a stop gap. What I meant by my comment was the there will be lite model 24" and 'PRO' model 32".
I didn't mean that we get iMac and iMac Pro kinda thing (as we did before) but that we will get more beef in the higher model. As there is no XEON chips and ECC memory etc. it means that certain things will be universal. My 'Pro' was mainly about the fact that it will be just more powerful. Kinda like 5300 in base model and 5700XT in high end iMac. That kinda thinking :)

I'm sure there are people out there who want a beefier but smaller iMac though.

In ideal world, we would get Mac Pro mini (consumer) and ACD 2.0 (consumer) so that way we don't have to buy AiO computer.

Sure, smaller iMac is ok but the screen estate on 32" will be awesome.

Anyone can get used to the size and once you do its hard to go back.

I have 15" MBP and 24" Dell screen (work provided) and I hate this setup. 24 is too small and 15 is even smaller. Also, 24 is weird size. Regardless, sure - give people options but 27-32 is ideal size for most people (once they get used to it)

Considering how optimized the M-series are to run macOS and macOS applications, I think in terms of CPU the 24" iMac will be the equal of the 27" Intel models. And considering how optimized the M-series GPUs are in terms of Apple Metal, I think it could be very competitive with the 27" Intel models in terms of GPU, as well, and if they do add an AMD dGPU option, then we'd be equal with it. So at that point, the only selling point for the 27" 5K model is that 27" 5K display and a 24" 4K display is not a terrible downgrade. So the 24" 4K should be a quite-acceptable replacement for the 27" 5K. I just want the biggest display I can get, so that is why I will buy the iMac Pro even though I will not really need the CPU/GPU performance.

That leaves Apple free to position the 32" as a "premium workstation" like they did with the 27" iMac Pro - but with even more differentiation (which is what hurt the Intel iMac Pro as the Core i8 and Core i9 and AMD RDNA2 caught up with the Xeons and Vegas on the low-end).

My main worry would be that the Apple Silicon iMac Pro ends up like the Intel one - a placeholder until the Apple Silicon Mac Pro arrives. However, I now believe that the new Apple Thunderbolt Display will use the 24" iMac 4K panel so the Pro Display XDR will remain the only 32" 6K option for the Mac Pro (like now). This will give the iMac Pro a bit more breathing room (want a big display, but willing to trade a bit of performance for an included computer?) and since Apple controls the CPU/GPU they can update it at will and not be at the mercy of Intel/AMD.

I think a 16-core M1 GPU would be on par with Radeon Pro 5500 XT in iMac 27".

Ha - I'm in this camp as well. I feel of tinge of guilt given that I paid $3,500 for my current system to spec up the CPU, GPU, and storage knowing full well I don't do anything intensive enough with my system to warrant the upgrades (aside from storage).

Yet I'm sitting here eagerly awaiting the day when I can replace my perfectly fine 27" iMac with a 32" Apple Silicon version that I know very well will also be pointless specced up (32GB RAM anyone?) - but that makes me happy. :)

I've never been a fan of the 24" size class. When rendered at 1080p retina I find everything too large, but if you go to 2560p then everything is too small. I feel like 20" - 21" is the ideal range for HD monitors (excluding gaming). I know that is also the size of the generic cheap monitors issues to work states at my firm as well.

I was "that person" who brought in 27" 1440p monitors from home.

I don't think we will see an AMD dGPU. All existing AMD GPUs are designed for the Intel workflow, and I don't think they are involved in anything that changes that. We may see an Apple GPU for Apple Silicon, but I think it will be designed for Arm, and nothing to do with existing GPUs. Apple Silicon works so differently that not only are Intel not involved, I don't think any related GPU providers will be either.

However, Apple must have a GPU solution that works for every Mac model (including the Mac Pro), otherwise they would not have gone down this route.

I tried it and couldn't get used to the size. I eventually switched to a MacBook Pro, but that was too small (not to mention that the fans were loud and very commonly kicked in). The 21.5" iMac is the ideal Goldilocks Mac for me. I never have to worry about the battery dying because there is none. I never have to worry about the fans being loud or kicking in because of how efficient Apple Silicon is. :D

I have completely opposite feelings for the 24" size class.

Yes, Lifuka. It will be interesting to see what it is. Apple Silicon has shared CPU/GPU RAM, add current GPUs designed around Intel functionality, and I think we will something designed specifically for AS. My guess, shared here before, is a GPU connected to the other side of RAM, but that is a guess as I don’t know enough about that side of things.

Lifuka might be for the larger Mac only, hence a possible difference between launch timing. My thoughts (I was always sharing thoughts, never convictions without sufficient evidence) were for iMacs at WWDC, but the Spanish version of the event invite means I am far less certain.
