It is kind of time for me to update my 2011 iMac, but I don't need a new one right now.
I use my iMac mainly for webdevelopment, but I occasionally like to play games (but mostly AAA-titles on Windows, not the casual stuff).
I thought hard about upgrading my iMac to the 2019 one, but it feels to me this was a minor update and also that a redesign is around the corner (expecting 2020, maybe earlier, it happened before).
When a redesign happens, I expect:
Some people are predicting Apple to switch to ARM processors in 2020. If this would be the case, gaming on Windows would be impossible right as far as I know.
- Smaller bezels (as all new Apple's products have)
- Improved display (but not expecting XDR display level)
- SSD by default, starting with 256GB, no more fusion drive
- T2 chip, or possibly T3
- FaceID or TouchID
- 10th generation intel
- AMD Navi GPU
- 16GB RAM by default (possibly not upgradeable anymore)
im sure next gen of iMacs will have ryzen inside(see the MacOS 10.15.4 Beta hardware IDs), intel is too hot, too slow, to power hungry... the rest could be possible.
In this case I would wait to buy it, at least 8/10 months after the public release
Your suggestions break the essence and idea of all-in-one computers. My iMac redesign wishes:
• No internal speakers. Go back to external speakers. More internal space for better graphics card & more.
Because I remember the switch from PPC to Intel on a MBP and it was painful! A lot of troubles, display whining, hot, non perfectly aligned display, app emulation doesn’t work well, ecc... I would wait to see the problem but it’s not an easy switch, I wouldn’t buy a new iMac as a work device as soon as I will be released.because of? not security leaks? half TDP at the same MT performance? the better driver support?

Yeah, but that was a massive change because they swapped the architecture to x86... So u compare apples with pears... Its like u would say "uhhh, apple changed the company where delivers the SSDs for the Macs, so i will wait hows works"
no it’s -almost- the same, macOS will need to be rewritten switching from x86 to ARM architecture as it was when Apple switched from PPC to Intel.

he was talking about AMD not ARM
I guess if we are really getting AMD then WWDC stage time? Or next month? I think due that that alcohol drink we might not get much until its sorted so the spring event might not even happen. Lets see though
If there is a Mac Refresh that includes AMD CPUs, makes sense to announce it as WWDC that way the developers can be briefed about any internal changes while, being the second-most-covered annual Apple event, the end-users can be reassured that their AMD Macs will work exactly like their Intel Macs.

Yes, but the old shaving mirror designed iMac had external speakers. In my opinion, that design was better than the current design. Having the speakers external allows for us to upgrade them, if we wanted.
And you can't do that now because . . .?. Having the speakers external allows for us to upgrade them, if we wanted.
