I have the 2018 iPad Pro wifi 11 inch 256gb..will be trading it in to get the new ipad pro 12.9 inch..I usually resell my ipads on craigslist and meet people in person but obviously due to covid that is not an option. I know I can send the ipad via fed ex to apple but I dont want to risk it being lost(or them coming up with some phony baloney excuse to give me less money) can I do the trade in in store, just hand it to them and they will bring me a gift card for the amount, never done it before

Yes, he's obnoxious. I was able to ignore that and focus on the fairly decent points he made. Yes. I just did this a couple weeks ago. They didn’t even want the charger or box that I had neatly packed it in. Just the iPad. Made sure it worked, turned on, took down the serial number and had no major damage and had me wipe it before handing me my gift card.

Do they give you the same amount on the gift card as it appears online(When you check the trade in value online) I obviously wont need the charger, cable for it anymore and I have the original box so mind as well get rid of it..is it possible to have a friend of mine bring it for me..I am not vaccinated yet and she is and she offered to do it for me next time she goes to the mall
Yes you do need to make a regular shopping appointment. I called the store to confirm this before coming in. If you arrive without an appointment they can try and book you one for later in the day, but the wait could be 30 mins to 3 hours from what the operator told me. From every report I have read, and I can attest to this, the value I got for my iPad was the exact same as what I was quoted online. Now, Apple specifically says that it could be different in store. However, I have yet to find someone who had that happen, except in the instance where they claimed their device was in very good condition when it really had a dent in the case or something. As far as the charger and box, they offered to recycle it but someone said it may affect the trade-in value so I would bring it anyway. I opted to keep both of them, and ended up recycling the box at home.
To make an appointment go to the website for your specific store and create a shopping appointment. This is new if you haven't gone to the Apple Store since COVID hit.
Thank you so so much I really appreciate you giving me all this info..Will create a "Shopping appointment" once I find out about the new iPad Pro 2021 this coming Tuesday..will just bring everything, original box, adapter and cable since I wont be needing it anymore..and its just a regular gift card that I can use on apple.com(Education site or regular) will I be given a receipt showing the value of the gift card that way when I come home I wont be shocked to find out the gift card contains nothing..can someone trade in the ipad on my behalf, Im not vaccinated yet but my friend is and she offered to take it in for me the next time she goes to the local mall so could I Make an appt and have her trade it in for me or is it better for me to just bring it in myself once Im fully vaccinated?

The cards nowadays are all-around Apple cards. When you redeem it, it credits your account and anything that Apple would bill you for (eg, iCloud Storage, monthly AppleCare plans, iTunes and App Store purchases) will be pulled from that balance instead of your credit card. Same with purchases on Apple.com. They ask for an email to send you the receipt digitally, but you can also get a paper one if you wish. Personally, if you already have a vaccine appointment, I would wait until you're fully vaccinated. I don't think it would cause any problems having your friend take it but what would concern me is no one knows my device like I do. The values have already been adjusted to account for the new iPads coming; I seriously doubt they will adjust them again before you would be considered fully vaccinated.

Yeah I might just wait that way I can just do it myself..I was planning on using the gift card to go on apple.com and purchase the new iPad Pro..since Im a student to get a student discount that was my plan..getting the gift card in store, coming home and purchasing the ipad pro, I assume I can do that..back in the day I used to sell my old devices on craigslist and meet people in person, so Im probably losing like 200 bucks doing it like this but with the virus and all who'd want to meet someone in person not a good time so doing it this way at the apple store is a better option, not the best option in the world but worth it..I checked amazon to see how much I could put it on the market there but they only sell renewed 2018 models so I cant sell it there since mine is not renewed its not a refurb

Yeah, I’ve actually noticed that this whole ‘iPad mini to likely be announced at the April event’ idea kind of came out of nowhere (from nobody super credible) and has been bounced around in an echo chamber with no real basis in reality... All the credible leakers (Gurman, Kuo) were saying to expect the new iPad mini sometime this year, but likely later in the year... Then all of a sudden one site or blogger extrapolated that to ‘it’s coming this year so it could very likely come at this event’ and everyone else started echoing that.
