What points to a press release?
Last year the iPad Pro & Magic Keyboard were released via Press release. So was the Early 2020 Double Storage refresh of the Mac mini and I believe another early 2020 Mac refresh. But with what we learned this week about the chip shortage affecting Apple now, I do not see any products being released possibly until after the iPhone. They're not gonna do anything to affect that launch not happening.

Plus we’re getting too close to WWDC.

Apple has done events around this time before.
Yes but there’s not even an announcement at this point. The event would have had to been last week. By the time they would put out an announcement for an event it would be too close. I just don’t see that happening. It’s going to be press releases.

Again, Apple has announced events around this time before.

Does it really matter what Apple did in years past now? They did 3 separate events in back to back to back months last year! They’ve never done that. With that in mind, nothing says they can’t do an April event and then less than 2 months later have WWDC

No. Apple has done Spring events as late as the last (full) week of March. Last time they did anything in April was in 2010. And I know we talked about this being an odd year but we’re like 7-8 weeks from WWDC. They’ve never announced an event this late into April.
That doesn't mean they cant announce an event. I don't know what's preventing them from doing so. These events arent live anymore and Apple's schedule is seriously being shaken up due to COVID-19. They released iPhones in October, had a November event, a September event with not many new products, etc...

I think a "gaming" themed event is coming, with a new apple tv, controller support on iOS, new iMac, Metro exodus coming April 14th, and maybe airtags with AR gaming support.

All the latest rumours/leaks are pointing to an announcement mid April (so this week). It’s possible that they announce an event this week for next week, let’s not forget it won’t be an in person event so Apple don’t need to give the usual 2 weeks notice.

Apple never gave two weeks notice for Special Events. It was always 7-9 days.

Edit: Well, ****. Can’t argue with facts! It was quite often more than 7-9 days. :)

Apple sent out invites for the iPhone 6 event on August 28th, for a September 9th event. That’s 13 days. But my point is that due to Covid they don’t do in person events at the moment, they haven’t got to get people flown over and so on. If they wanted Apple could release invites this week for an event next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Personally i think the iPad Pro updates is worthy of an event, Mini-Led screen is something they should explain in a video/event. Airtags (if not delayed again) are a complete new product for Apple, i don’t see them announcing those via a press release.
