I'm going to keep my 4s until it falls apart and then evaluate the market.

I really dislike the current trend for bigger phones and I hope apple doesn't follow the herd on that one (or at least keeps a smaller phone available).

If it does and the only iPhone available is a behemoth I'll probably look at one of the smaller Android phones. If there's a smaller iPhone available, I'll definitely get that

I agree with this. I am not really into these ginormous phones. I really prefer the smaller 4s, and I didn't bite on the iphone 5 because my 4s has been plenty of phone for me. I have tried android devices, and I am just not into the UI. It is a bit all over the place for me. iOS while kind of structured and limiting, is clean and relatively bug free. I'll consider picking up maybe an iPhone 6 or something like that.

It's hard to give up the Apple ech system but almost equally as hard to see Android users enjoy features that Apple refuses or very slow to bring on board.

Once the 15-20 apps i use a lot (not made by big name developers) make it to android phones and tablets, it is bye bye iPhone/iPad.

Already toying with android SDK for a port of our systems monitoring apps since other devs at company are mostly apple lovers.

You neat me to it. The s3 mini is a good budget phone, but not in same ballpark as the 5.

What Apple refuses to bring on board is the instability and poor battery performance associated with Android.

HTC one S. It has a 4.3" screen. Lumia 820. The nexus4 is $350 off contract and is extremely good value. Beating the iphone5 in a couple of areas.

Plenty of options

I'd go with the HTC One S over the N4. The N4 lacks LTE, has poor battery life and is way larger than the 4" the person was looking for.

I say 4 inches is too big. So you suggest three options that all have bigger than 4 inch screens.

I am sorry but thats your opinion. And the difference between 4.3 and 4 is barely noticeable. Furthermore these phones of less bezel that then 4" iphone 5 so overall they are pretty equal.

Having the bigger screen is great :D Currently using a galaxy nexus with the latest android OS. For me it was a switch between the Iphone 4S to this but I have say that the Android OS is not for everyone.

But going back to the iPhone 4s or 5 is still to be decided. Apple store says they sell allot of iPhone's but do not go into detail of which one they sell more of.

I will say I see allot of iPad's going out of there, many many ipads

I will consider Android for my next phone but only if they start making models that have smaller screens. I hate how huge the current 4.8" stuff is. I find it uncomfortably large in the pocket whereas my iPhone 4 is just right. iPhone 5 is good too. I don't see why something with say, a 4" screen with an aspect ratio that isn't 16:9 and has good specs is so elusive in the Android world right now.

The "UI is stale" argument is a bunch of bollocks. The UI doesn't need to change if it does what it does well. I think iOS has a very mature UI that isn't annoying or get in the way. It is easy to use even for novice users.

Where iOS needs improvements is better communication between apps, file management (give us a central place for all files already!), the same Javascript performance for all browsers and not just Safari, a way to quickly toggle settings from the notifications center. Some are available now on jailbreaked iOS but jailbreaks are getting rare. OSX allows all kinds of system level hacks and plugins without much of an effort, why can't iOS?

I completely agree with you. With the next Samsung Galaxy phone coming out, they will blow the iPhone out of the market. I was afraid of this. Now that Steve Jobs is gone, there is no one at Apple with his insight to the future. Apple will continue with minor updates and its miniscule screen size until all users will need magnifying glasses to read the screen. Meanwhile other phone makers will have 5.5 - 6 inch screens that are practical to use. Sorry Apple.:(

Lol...5.5-6" screens from phone makers that are 'practical to use'. That's. comedy!

I see we have a bitter Apple stock holder who bought at $700....... Just because you don't see what many others see as better products on the market, it doesn't make it stock manipulation nor does it make it criminal. The stock market has spoken these past months with the huge drop in Apple's share price.

Again...lol...stock pricing dropping while Apple is actually outperforming itself in the same period! More iPhones sold than ever before...record sales of iPads for an opening weekend, outstanding demand for a brand new, redesigned iMac, incredible innovation in their MacBook retina releases....that will only get faster, more powerful and 'easier' to afford as time moves forward. A LOT of the reason you've seen the stock prices drop were reasons that have nothing to do with Apple's success or lack thereof. A presidential election. Unsure tax consequences for the wealthy (main stock holders of Apple) after the first of the year. Big money put down on options while the stock was at $700---AND it was a bit high/over valued at the time. Corrections happen. However, with numbers this Wednesday....you'll see a rebound, and IMO...it's still a very healthy 'buy' at this price. Hell...Apple's iPhone alone is worth more than Microsoft and Google together! iPad success is closing in on the performance of the iPhone....and Apple is selling MORE Macs than EVER BEFORE! Oh....and then there's the AppStore, iTunes, and their software conglomerate....which would all be considered extremely successful endeavors on their own:)

Wow... just wow...

Is this guy for real? Someone give him a reality check ASAP please...

Oh, look, Apple just released an oven... go buy it.

Do you really believe what you're saying??????

Android a POS??????

NFC is used for file transfers dude.............. that is not a joke. The JOKE is that you can't send files between your iOS devices.

Get real dude. Get real...

Android, while not a POS....isn't all that either. I own a pair of original Galaxy Notes (that I can't get rid of quick enough) and a Nexus 7---that just isn't being used. I dug it for a month....up until grabbed the iPad 4 and the 'mini'. Since then, they've both collected dust. The Play store is lame! Really, Really LAME! When five of the top ten apps are ROM managers and 'tools' to tweak...and three of ten are keyboards....that should tell you something. Sure....their a tweaker's delight....but when it comes to a usable, functional communication/Internet/app device....mine fall very short! You can't even load your apps on the SD card. Perhaps I misunderstood when I bought...but I find everything within Android to be really, really goofy

Some things I like....Swiftkey and the ability to 'guess' the phone number I'm calling. Other than that...I find everything about iOS...both phones and tablets to be superior. By the way...I ended up with the Notes after trying the (American) SIII for a month. To me...the Note is superior. And I have NO idea where all the hype came from for the SIII. No clue!

Curious as to how many devices do you manage in your "enterprise" and what are you using now?

And if you could please be specific as to why NFC is a "JOKE" in your words? Have you used NFC? if so what did you use it for ?

Thanks

----------

Probably the same reason the Apple fanboys are always in the Android forums and you tube channels.

Weird....I spend a fair bit of time at Andeoid development forums and two other 'casual' Android message boards....I NEVER see iOS fans lurking like you say. Never!

I've used NFC as well. Perhaps it's because I'm here in America...but I'm not impressed...not yet anyway. Cool idea. No where to use it. But then again, I don't go to Starbucks.

I would only switch back to apple if they made a screen around the same size at the Samsung galaxy S3, and they implemented widgets, improve the customization of the OS and basically spiced up IOS on the whole, The OS has become completely stale IMO and needs a bit of a revamp.

Oh and just a few days ago I installed Swiftkey 3 and it basically ***** all over the keyboard of IOS, Infact I would go as far as to say The IOS keyboard is completely unusable compared to swiftkey.

That said, if samsung make the sgs4 with an ever great screen, and made a phone that looks and feels beautiful, with quality looking materials and looks like the iphone 5, then I will switch to the sgs5.

I would move to that sony experia Z but I dont like how everything, even the headphone jack, is hidden behind thos silly plastic "doors", If one of them breaks then the phone will just look crap, oh and even the sides of made out of glass, so if you dropped it you could be looking at one expensive bill lol

Nah, Been bored with iOS and iPhones for a while.
Too many good phones to be stuck to one brand or OS.
I'm willing to give Apple another try when they come out with something worth buying.
But in the meantime I'll be enjoying my Note II.

"Apple never innovates"

I don't think anyone is claiming that Apple never innovates (at least no one reasonable would), but the OP is of the opinion that software wise, Apple really seems to be resting on its laurels with regards to iOS.

Factor into this that Android seems improving at an exponential rate, Apple really needs to do something and quickly.

Similar sentiment here though I still don't subscribe to the 'iOS is boring' philosophy, quite simply because I'm not looking for excitement from my smartphone, but rather, functionality, stability, polish, and an aesthetically pleasing design (in that order as well). Android has offered greater functionality for quite a while now however, only recently closed the gap (or caught up) in the later areas--enough to entice me to spend prolonged time with it to give it a thorough test (Nexus 4 and Note II). And while I still don't find the either the hardware or OS as quite as polished or visually as nice as the iPhone or iOS, it's improved enough, coupled with the vastly more versatile functionality to keep me from going back unless there are some fairly significant changes/improvements on the software side.

I disagree that iOS is boring. I'd say it is stable. And that's a good thing since more and more of our day-to-day lives are going to rely on these mobile devices. That said, I'd like the choice to use different mail, browser, keyboard, etc apps as default. Which is why my Nexus 7 has replaced my iPad as my go to device.

Will I switch from my iPhone 5 to Android? I'll be honest and say it depends a lot on two things: what Google does with their ecosystem, especially with Project Glass. No way I'd be able to resist that. And what Apple does with their ecosystem, especially if it continues disallow shifting to other default apps.

I'm starting to think this will be my last iPhone unless there are dramatic changes to iPhone 6.

The UI has become extremely stale and I still can't do simple ****ing things like read and reply to a text message without exiting the app. Speaking of apps, iPhone multitasking is still half assed and not real multitasking.. let's not get into the Maps fiasco..

Hardware wise, it's nice to look at and feel, but we still don't have a bigger screen, the battery, especially on the 5, is garbage. No NFC, no innovation...

In about 2-3 months all the competitors will be ahead of iPhone and we'll still be waiting for the once a year minimal upgrade.

This years phone will have to be a really big deal or the new iOS will have to make my IP5 worth keeping, if not when I am eligible in May, I plan on going for either the Samsung SGIII or IV, maybe even the Note II, only thing that sucks is I have an iPad Mini and MacBook Pro, so they will not integrate well, but then again, I use the iPad Mini most of the time when I am home or around the area, the phone is lately just becoming an Phone, even chopped my apps down to 22, do not put music on it so much, and the camera is worse than my 4S so I do not use it to much either.

All this gs3 talk. Been there, had that. Disappointment if there ever was. Jellybean suck on the s3. If you want reliability out of the s3, good luck finding it.
