The computer in my signature, I just ordered about 3 days ago and im still waiting for it to arrive via FedEx.
Here is my stance on this particular thing.
  1. Even if some awesome kick-but MBP update is released where there is now an 8BG ram cap, or something as large as a holographic screen, I still wouldn't buy it over my current MBP. For some of us, 2.6ghz, 4GB ram, 17'', etc is just fine.
  2. Even if something really peaked my attn or sold me into wanting it more than my new MBP I would still wait a year or so because of the unseen bugs. Look at iPhone v1.0. No I'm not an iPhone hater, I have one, and I love v.1.1.2. :)
So let people make their own choices. Your recommendation should stop at look at the line, it's coming the 15th and stop there. You don't need to force people to wait, or give people crap because they did or didn't wait. To each their own.

Cheers

well whatever happens. I'll be glad after the 15th because there won't be anymore "do I buy now or wait?" threads...

oh what am I saying, people will still post these threads except it's going to be "should I buy now or wait 6 months"

Correct - these never, ever stop :)

Why is it everyone thinks a new MacBook Pro means more bugs?

In theory it will have less bugs. It's not a new product... just a new edition? Did Apple fix anything that went wrong with the current rev SR MBPs? No. What that tells me is that they should be fixed for the next gen MacBook Pros expected in ten days. There will be LESS bugs and Glitches, NOT more. What is this a Rev. D? MacBook Pros were introduced in Jan. 2006 guys. It's NOT a new product.

Why is it everyone thinks a new MacBook Pro means more bugs?

A 13" MBP will essentially be a new machine with a Macbook Pro label. It will be a Revision A product, which means it will have bugs, the way the new Macbook did, the way the original Pro did. As for the 15" and 17" models, yes, those should be improved, but that isn't a guarantee either. The 15" MBPs weren't Rev As when they started sprouting yellow screens (they were Revision D), but Apple introduced a new component, which, due to their refusal to test their products in advance, resulted in lots of misery for early adopters.

Did Apple fix anything that went wrong with the current rev SR MBPs? No.

See above about the yellow screens that plagued the 15" SR MBPs. You're quite right, Apple didn't fix that. They just ignored the problem and continued selling their stock of defective screens. But as lots of yellow MBP owners will attest, that doesn't mean in the least that there weren't problems that needed to be fixed. It just meant Apple was (as usual) too greedy to fix them.

So basically, any time Apple changes something (whether a big change, as in a new model, or a small one, as in a screen conversion), you've got a good chance of playing test pilot with buggy hardware. Not everyone has the time or inclination to put themselves through that.

I wonder if the same people that started the threads last time the MBP's were getting an update started this one too. The great thing about the MBP's is they continue to be on top of the latest technology, so they will always keep getting updates, and it always seems that some people just keep waiting, then they hear about another rumor and then they want to wait another six months lol. Just get one man they are amazing and everytime I open mine I smile. :D

I would still wait a year or so because of the unseen bugs.

You didn't wait a year before buying your MBP. That revision has been available for about 6 months, that CPU option for significantly less.

I have an MB, and want an MBP. I will be waiting for REVIEWS of whatever comes out after MW, then visiting a Mac store to see it for myself, before buying it.

Given that my MB is falling apart at the seams, buying anything without actualyl holding one first is a no no for Apple products.

Depends. I plan on buying a MBP within the next month or so. I'm waiting for the back to school promo starts here in Aus so I get a free iPod and I'm also waiting for a newer model. Also, with all this hype about an ultra portable, who knows? I might get one of them instead.

In short I plan on buying a laptop for UNI (college in the US of A) and depending on whats released and the back to school promo I'll be ordering my computer on the 15th and if not, soon after!

Buy, I may buy a used MacBook Pro or two. I buy broken MB's and MBP's to fix up and sell as a sort of hobby. So I may buy a couple broken old MB's to fix up on or around the 15th, but hell I just bought another MB today. I try to at least fix up two a week. Once I'm done with school for the summer, I hope to fix more like 5 per week. Its fun to take these apart and tinker with them, especially when you get them to work.:D I still can't wait to see what Apple comes out with though on the 15th.
Sorry, I'm a little off topic here. I'll be quiet now.
