Simple thread...would be interesting to know how many of you plan on buying another iPad in the future (meaning a 2nd gen, 3rd gen, etc...), or if you think you made a mistake buying an iPad and won't get another one.

Feel free to list your reasons why or why not. :)

Voted for 3rd gen, as I don't think the 2nd gen will be too big an update (speed bump, capacity bump, camera), however I get the feeling 3rd gen will be the better update. Plus the current-gen iPad can last for at least another generation.

I went one month without my Mac and using only the iPad, and it went very well...it's not a computer replacement, at least not yet, but the future is very exciting, considering this is just a 1st generation device. :)

I also said 3rd gen. I bought 1st gen with the knowledge that a second gen would come out in a year but I'll pass on that and get a iPad mini instead. :D

Depends on when my current iPad breaks. I use it almost everyday so I don't expect to not have something like it anytime soon. Probably Gen2 won't be a sufficiently big update for me to make the switch. Gen3 will almost certainly have something faster than 3G connection and that will be compelling for when out of wi-fi range. Nicer screen would be nice and lighter is always good. But those three things are really the only major improvements I could see. The thing is fast enough as is and more storage isn't necessary since I don't mind stripping shows and movies after I've watched them.
But Gen2 is a possibility if I can gain some utility by handing off my Gen1 to a family member or something like that.

I'm gonna get every gen and ebay old devices if I dont feel the need of have having both. I can't wait for the next gen to have FaceTime, bigger RAM and perhaps the support of the new Magic Trackpad. My 64gb is already getting smaller by the week so I'm stoked when the 128gb finally arrives.

Yes...but v2 or v3 really depends on the feature set, and I'm not yet sure what it will take for me to switch. I had an original iPhone, and didn't upgrade that until the ip4 came out. Even then things like the retina display (which is brilliant, mind you) weren't enough to make the difference--what sold me was the camera, and the fact that my 1st gen was starting to show it's age speed-wise.

The form factor on the iPad is about perfect for me. I won't be going back to using a laptop as my primary computing device.

I own one and my wife owns one. We both use them frequently and we each also have iPhone 4's

I use my iPad every day. Most days, I run through an entire battery charge.

Unless there are some fundamental changes to the os, most notably a unified documents folder, I will not be purchasing another iPad.

I understand where you're coming from, but battery life will no doubt degrade over time - Apple says they're designed to retain 80% of their life (8 hours) for 1000 charge cycles, past that, your battery will only get worse and worse.

So you wouldn't get a new one if your battery life becomes unacceptable? :)

Your poll is missing an option:

"Yes, ASAP, if i can find the money, because my wife takes the first with her everywhere and I obviously need my own, thank god it will replace my laptop and we can concentrate on having a main desktop and then just get all the family members a pad...."

What? Too wordy?

Batterey life is not my concern. I have never been happier with the battery life of a device than I am with the iPad.

Not being able to access documents seamlessly between applications is unacceptable on a 10" device that could actually be productive, if allowed.

As stated, unless a fundamental change is made, I will be switching to an android once released and evaluated.

I'll probably end up getting the third generation, iOS5 probably won't work to well on this iPad.

Going to wait for v3 unless something spectacular comes out in v2. My iPhone 3G still gets the job done, so i see no reason why my iPad won't still work like a champ for the next 2 years.

Wife wants one, so there is another right off the bat. I didn't answer the poll because the gen isn't important to me. When this one wears out, and can't be repaired, I will get another. Regardless of the version.

Competitors product? Well they released a Kmart 'Blue Light Special' Android tablet a few days ago. Reviews I read said they couldn't get apps to install and Skype didn't work. Hey, but for $150, can't expect too much can you?

You know, I want to say I will wait for the 3rd gen, but I have said that with my iPhone too and I always end up getting the latest and greatest.

So I know deep down I won't be able to wait......

I also said v3, but that would only be if v2 was not a significant enough upgrade for me.

Same here... I am still an iPhone 1g owner here. :) The only reason I am thinking about the iPhone 4 is that I am having some screen issues on my current iPhone :( And that after the purchase of the iPad, I love the speed of the new CPU on it (the same as in the iPhone 4). So glad that I held off on the 3G and 3GS models.

The iPad 2 will have to have some killer feature(s) to really make me jump for it. The one feature that would make me buy just after a year would be for an iPad that was as easy to read in sunlight as my current iPhone seems to be to my eyes....

I probably will upgrade to Gen 2 (but, as always, only a couple of months after release to wait out any teething problems). But only if I perceive the spec bump to be necessary for my needs and wants.

I'm not sure. I tend to always sell my stuff and buy the newest computer or phone out there, so chances are that I will buy the 2nd gen. But realistically, the current iPad does everything I need it to do. If it had a front camera or even a back camera, I'm not sure it would make a difference for me at the moment. We shall see.
