No, not in the same boat as you…I moved on.

Every year, since 2014, I've waited for Apple to change the design of the iPhone. But every year, since 2014, Apple insisted on making the camera bump on the back of the phone larger and larger and larger.

If rumors about the iPhone 11 are true then the jokes I used to make about the iPhone being all camera and part phone don't seem to be jokes anymore.

The wife and I moved on to Pixel 3a XL's about two months ago. If Apple ever does another SE in the Plus form factor I may come back, but who knows.

Aside from that though, I own several 1999-2008 era Macs and a 6th Gen iPad (as well as my older iPhones, 6s+, 5, 4s and 4).

While I think waiting 5 years for a camera bump to disappear and that being the de facto reason to leave the iPhone is pretty silly, I also thank you for voting with your wallet. Unlike so many here who say they aren't going to upgrade and are going to keep their phones for 4-5 years (lol), and then 2 months later upgrade to the next model.

Well, some of it was due to finances and some to how long we use our phones.

Since 1999 when we got our first flip phones, the phones we buy we generally don't get tired of for about 2.5 to 3.5 years. This time around it was on an extreme end (little over 3.5 years).

In between, if I see something I like and can afford it I will act on it.

That said, I came to iPhone because of aesthetics. I absolutely loved the design of the iPhone 5. The Apple commercials using the monolith from 2001 the movie just reinforced that. As I've explained many times here, any phone can do calls, email, text messaging and light web browsing. And that's all we use our phones for. I have computers around me wherever I go, 24/7 and any media consumption is done on those or on a 55" TV. I'm not into streaming movies or video on dinky little cellphone screens. 99% of the photos I take are of some item on the shelf at Walmart so my wife can see what product she wants me to get her. So from that aspect, a bazillion MP camera is not a consideration.

In short, because any old phone will do, I base my buying decisions on what pleases me aesthetically. And the camera bump doesn't do it for me.

I have to take a step back at times and remind myself smart phones are becoming almost utilities at this point bordering on an appliance.

Same here. When it comes to computers, I'll move back to Windows at some point, but with phones, I'll stick with Apple. Music/FB-Twitter/light web browsing/email-calendar stuff has all been seamless for me, so there's really no big incentive to switch - esp. when bonus features like Apple Pay and iCloud Keychain make things so much more convenient on top of that.

Nope. I’ve had my fair share of Android usage. But what soured me most and prompted me to switch to iPhone was the galaxy s7 and their awful two tone screens (the blue and pink hues were horrendous on launch, think I went through 3 or 4 replacements. In the end I gave up and bought an iPhone) and I’ve never looked back. My iPhone just works. And I don’t feel the need to tweak themes, or icons, settings, widgets, fonts, launchers etc. :)

I'm still rocking an SE. Refurbished but doing the job and it fits in my hand. Not sure why I should bother with anything newer so I'll probably just replace it with another SE when it dies.
Where did you buy the SE? I'm thinking about getting one on eBay

Your wants are pretty typical and we are all waiting on the "next big thing". Problem is they have not come up with a truly "next big thing". The Note 10 might peak your interest for a while but when you get down to the facts of what it can do in comparison to Apple's . . . . not a big difference.

Also I will take Apple any day when it come to security and privacy. With Android/Google you will have neither!

Do yourself a favor and do not sell your iPhone until you know for sure the Note 10 knocks your socks off!!!

What if I don’t own socks?

I switched to Android this year. Not much different to be honest. It's nice to be able to set default apps. The GUI is a bit clumsy. Using Android Q Beta.

The newness wears off after a month or two. Then it's just another phone.
Yes...and brand new slightly older gen android phones are way cheaper than iphones.

In fairness to Samsung, the S7 is ages ago, their devices have much changed in terms of the calibration/tone with displays, they look pretty good for what it’s worth. Your choice of switching to the iPhone is purely your own choice, but I also want to input that their displays have greatly improved over the years. I too am an iPhone user primarily, but I have nothing negative to say about Samsungs displays, and this is coming from someone who is heavy into the tech sector with smart phone specs’/hands-on approach.

I have nothing against Samsung displays either, and I do think their displays are top of the class (hence why apple use them :p ) unfortunately I had a bout of bad luck while in the purchase stage, which was enough to push me to alternatives.

My friend has an S10. And his display looks incredible.

Yeah, their displays have come along way. And even their TV displays are awesome, they have some of the best in the industry. And I can see why Apple did use them as you mentioned, being there OLED displays have matured quite nicely.

I wouldn’t switch phones as the entire family save for 2, is on iPhones. But I’d like someone to give me a “high-end” android to play around with.

Same still holds true. Same gen droids are cheaper.

Same gen “off brand”*. BLU, Huwawei (though if I were an android user, Huwawei would be last on my list to purchase) both are pretty cheap, and One+ is in the middle but approaching premium price for their flagships. Their high ends are around $650-$700 brand new.

LG, Samsung, and HTC (when they were relevant in the USA) all have phones in the same price range as Apple. Especially Samsung.

I have been thinking of switching to apple. My wife has always had apple. I just bought her a brand new sealed iphone 7 plus. I can get a brand new galaxy s9 for just a tad more than I paid for the 7 plus. I probably wont go to apple because of this. Can get a much newer generation samsung.
I joined this forum because her new iphone kept prompting her for her kids iTunes log in info over and over after setting it up. When I googled the problem I was led here .

I went to dark side with Note 9, and now SE is just way too small!
sigh, I know se is the best phone ever

Been a long time iPhone person here, have everything Apple wants you to have, phone watch computer, tv ect. My thing is with Apple, its still the same thing every year. I am thinking about holding out and seeing what the Note 10 looks like, anyone else in the same boat as me? I want to keep my iPhone and what not, but its just loosing my interest in what possibilities you can do with a smartphone.
As an Apple fanboy, almost all my gadgets are in teh Apple Ecosystem
It is hard to switch
