I wasn't planning on upgrading to the M1 Air, but it was such a revolutionary update that I went ahead and got one. If Apple releases another great update, I'll do the same.

It's not going to run x86 Windows. There is experimentation with QEMU but results have not been good so far.

The best at this time is if you can run your programs through Rosetta 2 or if you can get a native image for Apple Silicon.

I did my research and determined that my programs ran better on Windows x86 so I have a Windows desktop next to my M1 mini. It's a potent combination.
Unfortunately this is not working in my case.

My other consideration was to get a 2020 i7 iMac (Intel). Not a great consideration as Apple will eventually drop operating system support but it would get the job done for now.
But I am in good hope that there will be a Windows on ARM for Parallels as a working and supported product.

IMHO it'd be far more cost effective to buy an intel mac mini (new or used) for what you need. Either share the existing monitor or buy another one. Just seems wasteful to spend the money on an imac's display knowing intel support is phasing out.

My wife has a 2018 mini and it runs hot. The iMac has a 10th gen CPU and more space for cooling. I really do not like fan noise.

I've got 16GB Mac minis in both offices and am generally loving them.

My upgrade will likely be a new iPad Pro to better play with the Minis, though it depends on what the bumps are from my 2018 iPP.

Yep. It it was the plan all along. I got an Air M1 as an interim machine because my 2013 MBP15 started to fail and as it was a work machine, that was unacceptable.

The M1 Air is a base model with 1TB HD. I do wish I'd got the 16G Ram model now, but because the wife will get the computer and her needs are minimal I thought it would be fine.

I was expecting to only have the Air for less than 6 months though as all the rumors last year pointed to a spring release of the 14 and 16 machines. But here we are almost 1 year on!

I will be very happy to get the screen real estate and then some back on the 16. More power and Ram will be nice as well, but apart from that there won't be really any difference.

I really think a maxed out Air M1 for most normal users is totally fine unless you need more power or a bigger screen for particular use cases.

Air…. Being impatient and getting the 8GB Air was my first mistake, though 8GB does surprisingly well. Going base, so 256GB made sense at the time before Parallels massively outstripped expectations for virtualisation. So, maybe. Alternatives? 16GB Mini with 512GB SSD. I have the desktop setup for that but haven’t owned a desktop computer in over 20 years*.

Yes, will wait to see what the new 14 in. MBP (if it loses the Touch Bar) features but I think what I really want to see is the iMac-like new colorful MacBook Air. Really enjoying the M1 so far but I got the base with the intention of giving it to a family member or selling it. A blue or purple MBA with 1TB and 16 GB of ram and MagSafe is instant buy for me.

I don’t think apple never will introduce MagSafe again.
It I’ll destroy the usb-c/thunderbolt 3 concept.

M1 Mini 16GB 1TB. I run Parallels with Windows 10 constantly because of a couple of Apps that do not exist for Mac, they run well, but RAM is a bit tight (9GB to MacOS and 7GB to Windows). I have several Windows devices but since my mini is now my main device I want them on my mini.
I plan on getting the M2 Macbook next year, as I want the most portable laptop possible to upgrade my 11in air. If they make a 32GB RAM option I'll get that. Otherwise at some point I could get a new mini with 32GB RAM, but not this year, my mini is still fine for at least 2 years.

I won't destroy it, it would be a nice option, it won't replace USB C other than for charging (which will still be possible on USB C anyway). I am confident that it is coming

It depends on what is offered.
- I like the 13" screen from factor for mobile use
- At my desk I am plugged into a wide screen
- My current MBPro is supplied from work, I also have a cMP hooked to the same monitor
- Later next year we are planning on moving and I am planning on making an AppleSilicon MBP my main driver
Long term I would prefer a 4Tb or larger drive for everything to be self contained. Right now I am hooked to a 5TB USB3 for stationary use with media and game files.

Hi,
I have the MacBook Pro m1 with 16GB of RAM and 256GB storage.
The only thing that I do regret is that I was not buying the 1TB storage but I do manage by with 256GB as I do have iCloud 2TB and also I have an external SSD.

But I don't think that I'll update this year I have so much other things that I need to buy like AirPods Max, HomePod mini etc. to get everything to work as I want.

So my question for you is, what M1 device do you have and what spec. And will you update when a new one get's out?
You need a "Maybe" option. A lot of it depends on what Apple announces.

I recently bought the M1 Mac mini as an upgrade to the Late 2012 i7 and to play around. It is not my primary or secondary Mac. However if Apple decided to release a more capable models (e.g. traditional multiple monitors support out of the box), I will jump onboard and upgrade my 2018 MacBook Air.
