Well, shouldn't have spoken so soon. After loading it a couple of times, it has started completely freezing on me. Going to try reinstalling.

***Update***

Tried a second install and it froze again. Was able to install the latest Nvidia drivers though and now it seems to be ok.

Unfortunately this link seems to be broken (download limit reached, and the site is broken).

Is this mirrored anywhere?

Link is still working, so I do not understand the problem - change your ISP maybe ;)

Regarding Boot Camp modified installers: you can do it by myself using msi editor - drop off "Launch Conditions" and save. I did not modify "VersionNT=600" occurences to "VersionNT>=600" mainly because Windows 7 is different than Vista (more drivers are included) and I believe there is no sense to uninstall some of them and replace by Boot Camp drivers for Vista especially if everything is OK. This could lead to overall OS instability. I suggest to stay with standard Windows 7 drivers and install only necessary drivers like Realtek HD Audio 2.14 or MoultiTouch ((check exclamation marks in Device Manager). You can always delete some unnecessary drivers and leave only these in Drivers/Apple directory (like I did - I needed only OSD and Fn keys to get work), but check Device Manager before to get info what drivers you need. You can customize Boot Camp drivers too - replace old drivers with the newest keeping same filenames :)

Regarding audio latency patch - first we must install Boot Camp drivers then restart our Mac. After reboot go to the Task Manager, kill KbdMgr.exe process. Then we can replace KbdMgr.exe. Some persons also modify NVIDIA PowerMizer settings to set latency lower. You can also try new Broadcom wireless drivers (install it manually !) which should fix audio issues (cracks, pops etc), but I did not noticed improvement in DPC latency check tool. According to DPC latency check tool KbdMgr.exe process is responsible for bad results, so I set permanently CPU affinity to CPU 1 core from (that's the whole trick). Check DPC results before and after this fix.

Well I called whole ZIP as " LIMO patch", but honestly these files are just slightly modified, so do there is no risk to use them (no virus/backdoor trojans etc) - cause like Jaymz Hetfield says "we do not give a **** !"

Regarding Aero Glass - install graphic drivers first, restart your Mac. Run Windows Experience Index once (and do not expect high scores now), then run it again (WEI score should be better - 5.0 on MBP Early 2008). High score should unlock Aero :)

P.S. Try to connect your favourite DAP under Windows 7 - I was impressed to see new interface with pic of my walkman when device was detected -it looked like an external Sony application :)

P.P.S. Great OS - like XP on steroids/accelerated and improved Vista. Great competitor to OSX.

Me too. I finally got x64 version working. So here's how:

1. If you get a "select cd-rom boot type:" error when booting off the install disc to install, keep reading.
2. Eject disc and use windows to rebuild the ISO. In my case, I installed 32-bit Windows 7 on my MacBook.
3. Rebuild the ISO following these instructions, replacing the "server2008" with Windws7 or whatever name. Be sure to note these changes in the command line and adjust the command given in step 4 to match the folder names (server2008 to whatever).
4. Either try burning the ISO to disc using Windows or copy the ISO file to any external media and boot back to Mac and use Disk Utility to burn the ISO. On Mac, drag the ISO to the desktop, and open Disk Utility. Drag the ISO on the left panel, below the other disks. Insert DVD and click burn.
5. Insert disc and reboot. Before/at the "bong", hold option and select the Windows disc. Install and have fun with Windows 7 (don't think wrong)!!! :D

Thank you for posting this SnowLeopard...this worked out perfectly. I had all but given up, and didn't think I'd ever get past this. I had the 32 bit version on my iMac but wanted to test 64bit. I think this solution should be stickied, as I'm sure many more will run into the same issues. Thanks again :)

I happened upon a 24" led cinema display at work today in our conference room and I decided I'd hook my aluminum macbook up to it and see how it was handled..

I remember reading that some folks had trouble with XP or Vista and their cinema displays, but it worked perfectly in windows 7.

I hooked it up and took the machine out of hibernate and I was greeted with mirrored displays for the logon screen. It was easy to go into the screen resolution control panel and set up the desired dual monitor behavior and appropriate resolution.

Absolutely no issues in my short test run.

Did anyone get their copy off of Technet? I am beginning to think there are two (and by two I mean 4) different versions of Build 7000.
As far as I know, there are just two version of Build 7000 (Beta 1): 32-bit and 64-bit editions. They should all be the Ultimate SKU. The "official" releases came via Microsoft's Technet servers. The ones leaked to torrents and elsewhere should be the same, although they may be tagged differently.

Have you made a patched KbdMgr.exe for 64 bit Windows yet, or can we just use the 32 bit one that you've patched? When I change the CPU affinity it stays like that until I reboot and then it resets itself. Haven't figured out how to set it permanently like you mentioned.

There arewere 4. There are debug versions of each edition. Winver not only shows the expiration of the beta (July 1st not August), it shows if you are using the debug version.

Sigh, MS took down the checked versions...

Sorry I did not install Windows 7 64-bit yet, so no modified KbdMgr.exe for this version. Keep in mind that using Task Manager CPU affinity will be cleared after reboot. You can set it permanently for your KbdMgr.exe file using imagecfg.exe tool available on web (like I did).

Check SHA-1, MD5 and CRC checksums (using Total Commander with WCX plugin / UltraISO /other tool) according to MSDN:

MP3 files
When MP3 files are added (either manually or automatically) to either the Windows Media Player or the Windows Media Center library, or if the file metadata is edited with Windows Explorer, several seconds of audio data may be permanently removed from the start of the file. This issue occurs when files contain thumbnails or other metadata of significant size before importing or editing them. To avoid this, take the following steps:

To protect your MP3 files
1. Before you install this Beta release, back up all MP3 files that might be accessed by the computer, including those on removable media or network shares.
2. Install the Beta release of Windows 7; then install this update (KB961367).

If you do not want to install the update, you can avoid this issue by setting all MP3 files that might be accessed by the computer to read-only before starting either Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center or before editing MP3 metadata with Windows Explorer. To do this, in Windows Explorer, find the files, right-click them, click the General tab, and then select the Read-only check box. Once you have installed the update, you can safely reset the read/write status of your MP3 files to your preference.

Thanks for the information it worked! To anybody else attempting this, remember to run your command prompt as an adminstrator or the imagecfg.exe tool will fail.

I think this is not a problem for PC/Mac user or maybe a good lesson to know cmd line for "click only" generation ;-)

I installed Windows 7 (64 bit) on my unibody MBP last night without the slightest problem. I had no need for the modified files posted on this thread, and I'm still not sure what they are for. Once Windows 7 was installed, I just loaded the bootcamp drivers, downloaded the unibody mouse update, and all has been working great! I also updated the Nvidia drivers from their website. Other than that, no hacks/tweaks have been needed. This is probably the snappiest version of Windows that I have ever used and if it keeps performing like this, I'll definitely be purchasing it when it is officially released.

The modified files are to enable the bootcamp drivers to install on 64 bit Windows for the MB and not the MBP due to Apple "not supporting" 64 bit Windows on MB machines.

Yeah, that is what shows up on Technet as well. I still have (both) the 64 bit and 32 bit checked versions on DVD. I am probably not the only one that downloaded the checked build then ask themselves wtf is this fast that everyone else was talking about. The non checked build runs like butter...

The built in defrag seems to have gotten much better. The problem is that they cant get the defrag service running. Try running the compatibility troubleshooter. Its worked on every app ive tried so far.

Are the patches being downloaded as .exe files? If so, try right-clicking on them and then "Run as Administrator." This should give you UAC prompts, asking if you want the patches to run on an elevated level. Say yes.

Since Windows Vista, the kernel has performed similar to Unix, in that even a so-called "administrator" account is still limited. Like in Unix, there's a hidden "root" account that really has full-level control. When you get a UAC prompt, it triggers a secure desktop (this is why the background fades out) and by clicking "allow" or typing in your password, you temporarily run as the root user.

i'm not sure, i just used the blizzard installer to run them, but i'll have alook around to see if i can find them.

EDIT: i've found the patch it's a .mpq file. i tried right-clicking to see if i could run as admin but there wasn't an option to do that.

Well, when running the Blizzard installer, do what I posted. That is, try right-clicking on it and then "Run as Administrator." There should be a yellow-green shield icon to the left of the text. Anytime you see that icon, it means that the command will require a UAC prompt.

Of course, Windows 7 is also only at Beta 1, so it's entirely possible that WoW simply hasn't been updated yet to work in Windows 7.

I had to run the Nvidia drivers manualy off the bootcamp DVD to get rid of 2 unrecognised bits of hardware.........but apart from that everythings working......including sound and Bluetooth........

Was this to do with the errors you had in the device manager?

I have the same two problems showing as well.
