Looks like I dodged a bullet there. Never heard of the stuff. Though I'm sure we've spoken about it because I know we discussed grappas and other grape based liquors before.

Some Georgians swear by it - but - to my palate, it is brutally bad. Avoid like the plague.

However, I do recommend their aged (by that I mean, XO or twenty year old) cognacs; they can be quite good.

Armenian cognac (especially the 20 year old) - for example, Ararat - is excellent, and well worth sampling.

regarding whiskey, I didn't drink bourbon until earlier this year. Note that bourbon by definition is 51% corn so it's vastly different from scotch, Irish or Canadian whiskey usually. Generally, it has a more sweetness and a caramel flavors than other types of whiskey. if something is labeled as American whiskey, it probably isn't bourbon, but wheat, malt, rye or some other grain. Japanese whiskey, is predominantly modeled after scotch. they sent their master distillers to learn the craft and brought it back to Japan to further perfect the product. the Japanese love of scotch is so great that many of the big scotch distilleries are now Japanese owned.

In any case, it's all about preference. I like scotch, but it's hard to swallow, because it brings back bad memories. LOL. I have yet to acquire a taste for Irish whiskey. I now love bourbon and American rye, which I previously thought I did not like. And I will dabble in Canadian whiskey every now and then.

Thoroughly enjoyed two excellent bottles of Italian red last (both supplied by your humble scribe) night with two terrific colleagues.

The first was a Brunello di Montalcino, and the second a Chianti Reserve. Both excellent.

Buy Green and Yellow spot. They're fairly refined and I consider them to be intros to Irish whiskey. Good Irish whiskey at that. Scotch can be difficult due to the various regions having their signature twist on things. And even then, any Scotch house that makes their own has various lines. I've had single malts that were buttery smooth, aromatic and a bit sweet at the back. And I've had scotch that tasted like I was sitting in a wood smoker. Not that it's a bad quality, but if you're not expecting it, it's like getting a kick in the goolies.

Yellow Spot, which is elegantly smooth, is quite a cut above Green Spot, - which is a fine whiskey.

A few glasses of a crisp South African wine last night, (with colleagues), and some Italian red wine with lunch.

Perhaps a glass of Riesling tonight, for quiet contemplation and relaxation.

Going to go out on a limb and say that you like "German Riesling".... :):D

True. I do.

But, as it happens, I also like French Pouilly-Fuiseée, and Meursault.

And Alsace Gewürztraminer.......

But - alas, and alack, it is not entirely possible to acquire these where I am currently based.

And, that does not even begin to touch upon the matter of reds......

We had a Pieropan La Rocca 2014 this evening with dinner. Made with all garganega grapes. Delicious, and definitely going under the "buy again" list.

This past weekend I was able to kick off the fall season (not really fall yet, but it felt like it, so why not) with two rather impressive Stouts.

Drake's Brewing Company - Drakonic Imperial/Double Stout
Squatters Brewing Company - Outer Darkness (2015) Russian Imperial Stout. Aged this one for just over one year and boy it did not disappoint!

Sounds fantastic - and I hope you thoroughly enjoyed them.

A nice artisan beer for a change - haven't had a decent beer in months.

First up tonight is a stunning sour beer from Lagunitas by the name of "Dark Swan".

The label says that it is "an experimentally hopped sour ale fermented with dark red wine grapes." I say "yum".
