I have about 300. Definitely running out of room. There are Some really rare ones that I don't think I could throw away.

have a lot more boxed up haha, no where to put them (all bottles are empty and have been enjoyed  ) and thats why there's a wine fridge next to the front door lol, no room, wine fridge is primarily 90% beer anyway. We'll be moving next year to a bigger house, we're on the water with a huge FL room but don't feel like making custom shelves to go around the room. Goal is next house here we'll build a tiki hut bar and have bottles all around.... maybe even make dock lights out of bottles instead of normal dock lights hahahaha

have this 16% beast aging

Sounds like a most excellent wedding!;)

Complete with rock band, not some rinky dink wedding band lol, our song was their cover of the Pennywise cover of Stand By Me, and parent dance song was sick cover of Simple Man. Yes a most bodacious wedding indeed :D . We got married at the Biltmore in Miami, people there were like we've worked here for X years and never seen a wedding like that before here lol.

I drove all those cases of beer down to the hotel in my truck and was rushing going please don't break please don't break lol. Hotel made out well on that deal, you pay for the bar package and then they allowed me to bring in the beer, well everyone was drinking this or liquor etc so they saved a ton of money on the "regular" beers and they still got paid for the packages. And we had 3 cases left and they gave them back to me and I returned to Total Wine. I know a few other people whom have tried similar and no go, usually the places wanted an extra fee and whatever was left became property of the hotel which was bs.

Very generous. Although if the alternative way drinking crappy beer....

I'm super jealous of you getting Left Hand. I've been traveling the last few days and I finally got ahold of some of that Nitro Milk Stout. Yum yum yum! They don't distribute in CA. :(

We did my bachelor party in CO for huge brewery tour. We hit up Left Hand and they had various beers in Nitro versions where I've only had the milk stout before. Actually we went to their restaurant as the brewery was under water from floods last year.

We go to San Diego all the time and every time I can't wait to go back to Stone lol. Coronado brewing was great too, and funny story on my bachelor party we went to this brewery called Upslope and had some guys from Coronado brewery working there and I had my Coronado Brewing Idiot IPA shirt on lol. They just started distributing down here and are popular.

Ahhh, excellent choice for a bachelor party! Actually I was just in San Diego, and I have to admit I found myself at the Stone Brewing Tap Room several times. ;)

The Next Glass Beta App is set to be released today, Wednesday, November 5th, at 3:00 p.m. EST. The app will only be available for 24 hours after it is released.

They're going to the Pandora of Beer and Wine. I'm excited to give it a try today. They use chemistry to determine if a beer or wine fits your personal taste profile. All you have to do is hold your phone's camera up to the label and it gives that beverage a score. Wild stuff. Check it out!

TechCrunch article about NextGlass. Only a few more hours to download it...

They're a local tech company and I really want them to succeed. Great people! I'll quit posting about them after this, promise. Just thought this crowd would enjoy it. ;):)

Well I downloaded it in spite of being turned off by their advertising. The whole 'only available for 24hrs' is just blatant silliness. Viral marketing...artificial scarcity...blah blah blah. And the tone is classic Bay Area start-up hype. Sorry, I'm extremely jaded.

We'll see if I actually use it; why do I have to 'log in?' Surely I can keep a barebones database of the beers I like locally with an anonymous token used to query a server somewhere when I ask about a new beer...

Yeah I'm being all curmudgeonly.;)

Yes, I think I would pretty much agree with you on the sort of tone taken by much modern marketing. Indeed, their hyperbolic claims fail to move me, and I concur completely on the whole mentality which loudly proclaims that something is 'only available for 24 hours'. My default position on such silly deadlines is to wait until that time passes and then see what happens - which is usually another shrill announcement with a fresh deadline.

However, back on actual topic; it is lashing rain here, a dirty, dark, miserable November day, the sort where the lights are on for most of the day, and I seem to be incubating some sort of cold, along with a nasty sore throat. This evening - (well, late afternoon), I made a stew; it is simmering away slowly as I write.

Anyway, in a copper casserole, I put browned organic beef mince, pancetta, and chorizo sausage, along with garlic (which was counted in heads, - three small ones seemed to suffice - not cloves), lots of smoked paprika, several lightly sautéed chopped onions, carrots, celery, a parsnip, cannelloni beans, tomatoes, beef stock and a bottle of serious Trappist beer…….

I agree with all of the above. The fact I have to create an account also pains me.

I will continue to check it out and see if I like it enough to keep it on my phone. These guys were on TV promoting their new app a few days ago also.... Made the six o'clock news!

That sounds absolutely lovely (even if I don't eat a few of those ingredients). Since it sounds like you're a cooker, you might find the following recipe ripe for modification (or not, it is great as is...): Pan-fried Corona Beans & Kale. I'm big into 'beans and greens.'

The signin is so it can let you access your saved rankings. It's also social, so you can share recommendations with your friends. Also, you can know which beer to bring to the party that only you will like.:D But you're right, login probably shouldn't be necessary if you don't want the social aspect.

Teh Internets have understandably made us all extremely jaded... It's intent is to do what you folks in this thread are already doing, sharing good beers with your pals. I know I sound like a shill, but I really want these guys to succeed. It's a big deal for my town.

The whole 24hr thing is just because it's still a Beta. They don't want to get overwhelmed and bomb at the very beginning. Still a few bugs to work out. A little bit of marketing too? Probably... But I don't think that's the real reason.

Where'd it make the news? Was it the Beer Census truck in your town, or was it just a story about the app?

Actually, so am I - especially with other flavours (garlic…..and having read your recipe, I spotted nutmeg - which goes very well with greens). This sounds like a lovely recipe, thanks for posting it, and I'll happily try it out and tweak it as needed.

I used to be a very keen chef, but work abroad in recent years means that I only ever seem to cook when I'm home. Of course, this has the advantage of ensuring that cooking rarely becomes a chore, it is something I spend time doing and enjoy the shopping, preparation and actual cooking.

There is a thread on this section of the forum which discussed 'Fast Food'; my preference has always been for the 'Slow Food' type of cooking - even if I do 'fast food', it will be a cheese board, or a swift (but totally home made) pasta dish, or stir fry……..

Anyway, on a filthy day such as today, any work I do on the computer is more or less at deadlines which I can set myself; this allows for pottering about and having fun with a copper casserole dish……..

Happy to share, I hope you enjoy it.

I understand about travel vis-a-vis cooking. I love travel, but I end up getting sick of 'eating out' all the time. Actually, this is probably because I cook the vast majority of my meals from scratch (breakfast, lunch, dinner seven days a week), and I eat out rarely (a generous estimate is every other month, unless I'm traveling for work). I love the experience: it's relaxing and rewarding. For me, it is the perfect way to decompress after a long day.

To (ahem) stay on topic, one of my favorite things is to be working in a warm kitchen, preparing a meal (with all the various aromas swelling in the air) and to have a few ounces of nice wine or a pour of some delicious beer to sip on as it all comes together. Multiply my happiness multifold if you include good company in the mix.

Well, when I am working abroad, I am usually too tired at the end of the day to even contemplate cooking, so I rarely - make that is, hardly ever - cook when I am abroad. However, several of my colleagues enjoyed cooking, so a rather nice tradition of shared meals evolved (I would supply wine glasses, cutlery, music, coasters, a bottle or two of wine, and others would plan, acquire and prepare the food). It worked very well, too.

Agree completely re the wonderful pleasure of having a glass of excellent beer, or wine, or a nice elegant sherry, or white port, to hand while cooking, stirring, sniffing (and indeed, tasting); again, that is a sort of relaxed, chilling, taking it easy, decompression type of cooking - not the sort of cooking where the preparation and eating of a dinner must be rushed.

And - of course, I agree - congenial company and appropriate but good music can only add further to the wonderful pleasures to be thus savoured…...

The app made it to #4 today in the Food and Drink Category. Not bad for a day...

Errr, pardon my seeming cluelessness on such matters, but might I ask what exactly is the point of this app?

Do you order food via it, or, is it merely to show you what 'fast food' outlets are in your general region……?

Maybe it is my age, or my preference for a certain type of (carefully sourced and slowly prepared) food, but my idea of 'fast food' (and I'm serious - I do this very frequently), is what our friend Happybunny refers to as a 'cheese table', i.e a cheese board, (with good, flavoursome cheeses, preferably properly sourced) and a selection of charcuterie and perhaps pickles and chutney or paté, along with good bread, (well, excellent bread), good (congenial company), and a nice glass (or two) or beer or wine…….

I can - and I do - eat something along those lines a few times a week……

Oh, my understanding is that you tell it what beers you like and then it tells you if you'd like a particular beer that you haven't tried yet.

Thank you very much for enlightening me.

Um, don't my taste buds do that already? Along with enlightened and informed staff in wine merchant specialist stores (and beer shops), who are people I chat with, cultivate, buy from, drink with on occasion, the very people, who, knowing my preferences in some areas, are usually perfectly delighted to recommend or suggest others when they might remark: "Well, you know, if you like 'X' (insert name of something rich, robust, smooth and usually highly alcoholic), you will probably like 'Y', so I think you could try this one".

Or, equally, when I might hold a strange new unknown (bottle) by the neck, peering at the label and enquiring about it, I might get the response: "I don't think that would be your style; go on, try it, if you want to, but as you tend to like "X", this is a lot lighter and less smooth……"

Um, don't my taste buds do that already?

Yes, taste buds do that already! :) And yes good merchants can never be replaced. As I mentioned, earlier, it's similar to the Pandora music app. Your ears will always be the best judge and and the dude at the local record store will always have great reccommendations. But if you're on your own and can put chemistry to work for ya, why not be informed? This app can cut out a lot of guess work and mystery involved in choosing a new brew.

Hehe, their appeal to Science is one of their marketing strategies that bugs me. ;)

Okay, fair comment. I'm still a fan of dudes (and informed women) in music and wine stores, - they can be an invaluable ounce of information and you can learn a lot from them - and still very much attached to my well informed and quite experienced taste buds….

And I do read online reviews (of both music and wines….)

Mind you, I don't know what Pandora is, either…….

But fair comment, and

Heh, heh. I can see where you are coming from, and I sympathise.

I'd say it remains to be seen how accurate their results translate, but they really do test every bottle. I wouldn't mind that job! :D

Well, okay, granted, now that does sound as though it would be a job worth seeking and trying out…..at least, for a summer or two. No, I'll admit that I wouldn't mind that one, myself…...
