A really good, (aged, mature) port is even better than a Madeira (and a good aged Madeira is excellent); the older a port is, the smoother and softer it becomes, less fruity but a lot more mellow. A superb drink to sip and savour.

Yes, as it happens I've tasted Dow's 1977 vintage port (in fact I've even been gifted a bottle). First reaction? Woah.

Wine and Beer Enthusiasts

It's an American beer, but if it lives up to it's name, it should be a treat for the taste buds.

Grand Cru is given to mostly Belgium beers that are the top of the range.

Olease after you have sampled it give us a update.

Whoops. I guess I should of looked at my own link. I thought for sure with it being a quad and the style of the label it was from Belgium. I will report back. It's down a ways in the queue though.

I did pick this up from a small brewery yesterday that is gaining some attention real quick. 18th street brewery.

'Bitches' Bank' our 9.5% Russian Imperial Stout. This sweet, roasty beast of a RIS is brewed with cocao nibs, cinnamon, and vanilla. To this we added a TON of Rye Malt, giving it some very beautiful spicy notes.
500mL bottle.

Edit: thanks for the reply

I'll have the opportunity to visit Cigar City Brewing next week. Does anyone have any favorite brews from them that they recommend? Their list of current offerings on tap is long with many interesting options.....

Have you ever had any of their beer before? If not start with the jai Lai. Im asking my buddy who lives down there if there are any must tries. I'll report back.

I tried a collaboration beer they did with, I believe, New Belgium, but I don't recall it in detail. Otherwise I've never tried any of their stuff. Okay, Jai Alai is on the list! Look forward to hearing about what your buddy recommends.

Oh cheers! I was eyeing both of those!

Have been sipping a Niepoort 10 Year Old Tawny (port) for the past week when I was home. Quite delicious - soft, velvety and smooth, yet rich and luscious with the sweetness tempered by maturity. Lovely.

For a seriously smooth drink in December, little beats a gloriously aged tawny port…..

I should have home in Brussels, having been in and out of the city since the mid-80s and have been fortunate to sample many of the fine beers there. I have tried this particular beer and was pleasantly surprised that the American brewer used Belgian yeast, the beer has a nice sweet, spicy taste.

Found a Uinta Punk'n at my local Congregation Ale House. God it was good. Perfect weather here in Sunny Southern Cal (it was raining and somewhat cold) for it. Tasted freaking great! Sadly I didn't get a picture of it though.

Sipped an elegant and rich glass of Trappist Rochefort 6 this cold winter's evening; it will shortly be followed by a sip of something equally robust and tasty….perhaps a port might fit the bill….

Picked up a four pack of Mc Chouffe today. I'm looking forward to it, having only tasted La Chouffe in the past.

I, too, have quaffed La Chouffe (and liked it very much). However, as I have yet to sample Mc Chouffe explanatory tasting notes will be most gratefully read should you care to pen them. Meanwhile, long before you put finger to keyboard, may I wish you happy drinking.

Ah, yes. I imagine that this would be………simply sublime. I sincerely hope that you thoroughly savoured and enjoyed every last drop.

I have two bottles of 20 year old tawny port (from Niepoort) awaiting my attention…...

It's rather expensive for me in stores, but on Wine.com it's a little more doable. I think their pay $50 get free shipping for a year is an excellent deal.

I haven’t made an epic beer run recently, but scored a few interesting thing at the grocery store (that now has a full liquor store next door - that’s one less trip across the intracoastal  )

Anyway ...

A couple of standard “go to” beers like Dead Guy and 60 Minute, and some fun alternative styles/flavors. :)

[edit]

As far as I remember, I wasn’t standing on my head when I took that photo :D

You are in for a treat Mc Chouffe is a fantastic beer.:D

Lovely beer, it was actually on Happybunny's recommendation earlier in the thread that I kept an eye open for it. Slightly malty, lightly hopped, only slightly bitter with notes of plum and dark spices. I really like it! I only hope that I can find it back home in California.

Ah, Happybunny's recommendations are always well worth heeding, especially on matters related to beer. Given that you seem to have seconded his warm recommendation on this particular beer, it would seem prudent to keep my eyes open for an opportunity to sample it in due course…….

Yes, quite right! I, unfortunately, haven't seen it available where I normally reside, but I am on vacation and managed to secure a few bottles locally. :D

First off thank you for your kind comments.

I am also glad that you enjoyed the beer. On a side note it is Mc Chouffe is becoming more available here in Europe at least. Production up 60%.

Of course if you hadn't enjoyed the beer, I would deny all knowledge, and blame my evil twin.:p

Great Lakes makes a great Christmas ale. I have a had a decent amount of their beers and I feel that is their strongest offering. Blackout stout is up there too.
