A few new ones:

Please give an update.

I ordered two cases of the R 10. They came in yesterday, just in time for the weekend.

I think you will really enjoy the Rochefort 10, if you haven't had the sublime pleasure of tasting it so far. It is a magnificent beer, one of the very best I have ever sampled. You are in a for a treat. For what it is worth, this very afternoon, I, too, have also ordered another crate of the stuff.

Well, currently, in my rather well appointed 'cellar', I seem to have an almost ample supply of St Bernardus 12, St Bernardus Wit, La Chouffe, and Rochefort 6, Rochefort 8, and Rochefort 10. In truth, I cannot complain.

However, I asked earlier today if some of the legendary Westvleteren could be sourced (apparently the output is exceedingly limited; the monastery does not seek to make a profit by its endeavours or from the splendid products of its brewery, rather, it merely seeks to sell enough beer to subsidise the spiritual dimensions of monastic life).

I was reliably assured that every effort will be made to source the beer. Likewise, I am also attempting to seek out some of the others from the St Bernardus range; they have 'dubbers' and 'triples', and - from reading reviews - they all sound as though they are rather excellent.

Im not fond of the price, that's for sure. But despite my whining I still buy it. Is a crate a case (12 bottles)? Just out of curiosity, what did the case of R 10 cost?

Mixed case; I requested 8 bottles of the Rochefort 10, and 2 each of the Rochefort 8 and the St Bernardus 12 (I still have an almost full crate of the latter).

Um. I paid by credit card, and may have received a discount.

While I'm not fond of the price, I shrug it off; these days, I refuse to drink rubbish (I look back on my student days with horror - we drank anything that came our way…), and prefer to pay a bit extra for something decent.

The price can get somewhat high, but for good beer, it is worth it to me. Heck I purchased a single bottle for $24 bucks (plus tax) at my local store. Will have to post my picture tonight of this weekends haul!

That is the very point.

As you mature, you find (well, I do) that you really do come to prefer quality over quantity; these days, I will willingly pay the proverbial premium price for a beer, or wine, or port, that I know to be of excellent quality.

These days, if I drink alcohol (and I do) then I will only admit the very best quality alcoholic beverages to shake hands with my palate and liver…...

Wow. The $70 a case (12 beers) is a value! The alcohol content of the R10 is something like 11.6%. I see that as major diet advantage. I can drink three or four and be done whereas I'd have to drink a pony keg of my local beer.

I'll watch for the picture. By the way, I think you are way down south of the Bay, are you with the SD?

SD=Sheriff's Department?

The alcohol content is a weebit higher lol. The bottle in question is 11.25% Mission Bay Dark Seas Stout aged in Bourbon Barrel special brew. I forgot to post the picture.

Yes.

I'll check my store for it. Thx.

Thanks. I'll them out. Retired PD.

I see they offer a few IPAs; any recommendations for my next bottle?

I have had both the Island and Idiot version. I have not had any of the specialty brews that come out throughout the year. But if you like an imperial ipa the idiot is pretty good. For me it is pretty darn hoppy!

If you like IPA, I would also suggest Green Flash's Palate Wrecker Imperial IPA. Not only is it high in both Abv and IBU, but the taste is really good. I have only had it on tap though.

Are you a big IPA drinker?

I'll keep an eye out for some of these, cheers!

Well, I'm not particularly expert on IPA beers, and so would be most interested to obtain tasting notes and feedback……

Meanwhile, enjoy the experience of sampling something new……and hopefully tasty.

No expert here. I just know what I like! :D

I actually like Belgium Ales, Stouts and Porters the best, as you can see from my last purchase! :D

My preference, too, tends to lie in the direction of Belgian beers, porters and ales, especially the Trappist ones; hence, I do not have an awful lot of knowledge of IPAs.

Now, a few years ago, I do recall that the Scottish brewers Innis & Gunn did have a wonderful IPA, but, alas, they do no make it any longer.

I tend to prefer the lighter IPAs, the Coronado Islander was quite nice in this style, and my favorite these days is the Blind Pig IPA from Russian River Brewing Company. These tend to bring a lot of floral and fruity notes from the hops while maintaining a refreshing quality. These are actually pretty dangerous because they're eminently drinkable but still rather high ABV...

The bigger ones, I believe these are the Imperial, Double, and Triple IPA varieties, can be absolutely otherworldly in character, with the hops taking a challenging and deeply penetrating position on the tongue. As far as I enjoy these ones too, I have to be in the right mood for one. It is hard to follow these up with a less hoppy beer. Bell's Hopslam is in this category and is a personal favorite.
