Sounds good Rhett. I'm very fond of Bloody Mary's. Here's mine -

2 ounces vodka
3 - 4 ounces 100% tomato juice
Juice of 1 lemon wedge (quartered lemon)
1/2 t Worcester sauce
2-3 dashes of tabasco sauce
1/2 - 1 t of horseradish
Healthy pinch of Pepper
Healthy pinch of celery salt

I prefer to pour between the shaker and it's glass. Some people shake but I don't care for the air introduced into the drink. It seems to thin it out a touch.

Pour and add a lime and a celery stalk. Sometimes I toss in roasted garlic stuffed olives.

I have seen the horseradish called more often than not when it comes to bloody marys. I just never have any on hand to put it in. I guess it is time I break down and buy some just for the bloody marys!

Oh the roasted garlic stuffed olive!!!!

And Polish vodka (that was a different trip, a different year or two, and a different full suitcase) - especially the Boruvka (the bison grass version) is not at all suitable for a Bloody Mary.

bison grass vodka though is great ... especially with apple juice and a little bit of cinnamon added
In Austria we call it "Apfelstrudel" since it tastes similiar to the delicious dish ;)

Apart of that my to-go brand for mixed drinks would be rather be Stolichnaya instead of Absolut.

Agreed, bison grass vodka is great. But just not in a Bloody Mary…..

Mind you, I hadn't heard of the possibility of adding apple juice and cinnamon; that sounds fascinating, and I must try it out some time.

German Rieslings are great and conveniently grow just around :)

A drinking jar, as soon is empty, -
does not provide the joy so plenty...

It's my free translation of Goethe's:

Bison grass vodka? Now that's something I might be interested in tasting.

Well, 'Zubrówka' (or bison grass vodka) comes in a bottle that has a rather distinctive appearance, (that reed or two in the bottle, the 'bison grass'), and has quite a specific colour and taste. In Poland, it is revered by some, and highly regarded by almost everybody else.

Ah, yes, when one starts thinking about adding or including apples to any recipe, you know that the autumn (or 'fall' as our American cousins phrase it) will soon be upon us.

'Dangerously delicious with a good apple juice'. Right. You have successfully tempted me…..this is something I most certainly must try out once we reach September…..

Who knew there was more than just good ole fashion Russian vodka! (I kid of course).

Well, I'm not an expert, but in shops in Poland, around twenty years ago, I recall being stunned at the ante and variety of (Polish) vodkas on offer.

Likewise, even the most obscure and remote villages in Kyrgyzstan stocked an incredible array of vodkas.

This is a spirit that seems open to all sorts of creative interpretations
……in how it is produced...

Yesterday evening, I opened a bottle of Pouilly-Fuisée, an elegant white Burgundy, and sipped several glasses of the wine while watching several episodes of an excellent British TV series.

This evening, with dinner, I sipped a new beer - one I hadn't tried before, and which had come recommended - from Founder's brewery. This one is called a 'Dry Hopped Pale Ale'.

That ought to be tasty. Today I picked up some Brotherhood Steam Beer from Anchor Brewing, which is a dry-hopped version of their classic Steam beer.

It is tasty, and I have it because it was recommended to me, although it is not what I would usually drink.

However, it is good to try new things, and to venture outside one's culinary or gustatory comfort zone as part of the attempt to discover and explore new beers and wines…...

I dig the normal version of their Steam Beer..... How did you like it?

I had another bottle of Pelican Brewery's Cream Ale.... One of my favorites and now the wife is digging it also. Nice, lite, and easy on the palate. Something that is refreshing, especially in this hot and muggy weather southern cali is experiencing right now.

Oh, yes, I completely agree: The garlic stuffed olive is a thing of wonder and a source of delight. As is the anchovy stuffed olive…..

Delicious! I like it even better than the original Steam.

Outstanding, here is hoping I can find it. I can find their regular stuff all over so hopefully this will be out and about too! A "Total Wine" just opened up nearby, which brought a huge smile to me!

I can't wait to go inside and gaze in marvel at the huge selection of beer's and wines!

You ought to be able to find it. It seems to be getting a pretty wide distribution, as I ran into a six pack in Atlanta a week or so ago. Incidentally it comes in cans only.

Just a short update, as if to give credence to the old adage “Its not what you know, but who you know”.

Yesterday I happen to run into an old friend of mine, from my university days, he was telling me about his sons success in the beer/spirits import business. Well one thing lead to another and I’m fixed up for some Founders KBS in April 2016 (12 bottles)

Yes, agreed.

I didn't quite manage to acquire 12 bottles of Founder's 2015; my splendid young manager managed to obtain……11….bottles for me. Given that his total allocation comprised two crates of 24 bottles each, and one other customer (who had been primed - or somehow made aware of things before me) managed to snatch a full crate, and the young manager wished to sample a bottle or two for himself…….I have no grounds whatsoever for complaint…

And I will be discreetly advised next year when a fresh supply becomes available…….

Anyway, may you enjoy your Founder's KBS. It is a superlative beer.
