Great list.

Founder's, yes, I know about; superb, no argument.

Mikkeller's are also brilliant - their sours are superlative - (but, I am reliably assured that their reps - at least in my part of the world - are a real pain to deal with), and Left Hand are also excellent.

The others, I'm afraid, are beverages and breweries that I have never come across.

Mikkeller's is hard to come by down here as well and the are some what local both LA and SD have one and they are still very fussy. But when you do, yeah they are good. I have had them at one of the local beer spots and when I visited Stone brewery.

Hm.

Candidly, I prefer the European beers, the Belgian classics, and some of the beers that are produced by the excellent Buxton Brewery.

Now, while I liked it, - and loved the idea that this sort of fascinating experimentation was (and is) taking place - I wasn't especially bowled over by it. To be quite honest, I think I expected the flavour to be fuller, and richer.

Curiously, it was the first beer by Sierra Nevada that I had tried, and it was recommended to me that I do so, thus, I stashed a bottle away. It was good - but not brilliant.

Nevertheless, I do love some of the stuff that Founder's produces (especially the legendary KBS, which is superb).

Interesting. I typically am not a fan of cherry and chocolate. I presume I wouldn't like a cherry and stout leaning on chocolate flavor. I'll have to try it, but it appears to be seasonal. Possibly a winter brew? It's hard to consume stouts during the summer, though. Unless it's a slightly chilly night.

I've sweet talked many a rep for selling me more than the max amount per customer.

Okay: I spent a few pleasant hours in my favourite wine bar, where a wine merchant friend, and the cheesemonger (who is a good friend and who owns the wine bar) and I consumed a cheese board, a bottle of white Burgundy, a bottle of Austrian Riesling, and a glass of Gewürztraminer......

We discussed politics, (mostly British), fantasy writing & literature (a topic of mutual interest), politics, wine beer, and more fantasy. My kind of night.

My second beer of the night is another sour beer. This one is from the Thornbridge Brewery, and the particular beer has been crafted in collaboration with the (invariably excellent Wild Beer brewery). The beer is called "Thornbridge Tart Bakewell Sour" and it is delicious.

The abv is not too strong (5.5%), and St Feullien are incapable of producing anything other than an excellent beer.

I'd recommend it as a high quality, easy sipping beer.

When I leave present assignment I will be stopping in Brussels, will be looking at buying a home there I like it so much to go along with my home in northern England. Both good beer countries.

I remember wanting to buy a home in Wales about a decade ago. Never went through with it. When did you buy yours?

I like Belgium (and, indeed, I like northern England, and - perhaps surprisingly - parts of southern England, too).

And, yes, I like Brussels - it is an easy city to get around, and it has a terrific location in Europe with amazing transport links; friends of mine who worked there with the European institutions used to love the week-ends - so much of northern Europe was within easy reach, perfect for a half decent long week-end.

Besides, needless to say, as you observe, both are very good beer countries.

Do you actually live in your home in northern England?

Tonight, we had risotto (a dish from northern Italy) for dinner, and it occurred to me that a wine from northern Italy would be the ideal accompaniment.

With that in mind, I opened a bottle of Tiefenbrunner, the wonderfully named "Feldmarschall von Fenner zu Fennberg" from the Südtirol - Alto Adige area of Alpine Italy.

This is a white wine where the grapes (the grape is Müller-Thurgau) are grown at some insane elevation of the Italian Alps, with a proverbially tiny yield, and the wine itself is considered to be the vineyard's flagship offering.

Gin iced tea.

Steeped jasmine green, dried jasmine buds and lavender (for decoration and mild further flavoring, Hendricks for the rose and cucumber aroma and flavor. Lots of ice.

Thought of doing lemon, but I'd only end up craving a sour or two.

Sounds interesting, but, in those circumstances, I'd probably fall or the lemon tea and the sours, as I love that sour, tart note, and have done forever, even as a small child when my mother was astonished that I preferred a tin of grapefruit segments (I still remember the note-perfect thrill of that tart taste, and I was only four or five at the time) to any sweet offered by a well meaning adult or childhood pal.
