Why would anyone regret it?
The big leap was from Intel to Apple Silicon. From here on out, on the low end MacBooks and Minis changes will be more incremental.

I'm having the opposite-- my original plan was to wait for an M1X iMac to go with my M1 MBA. The Air is so instant at everything that I'm thinking maybe I should just get an M1 Mini and not pay extra for faster computer.

... which may be the route I go if they release a reasonably priced (<$1500) screen).

I debated between the air and Mini and chose the mini. Its easily my favorite computer of all the ones Ive ever owned aside from maybe my gaming pc.

Just handed down my 2018, quad core I7, 13" MBP to my daughter who is going to high school this week. I purchased an M1 Mac Mini to see me through to the higher end Apple Silicon MBP's are released. I have zero regrets....this thing is already a game changer and has me excited for what's coming.

Ive been tempted many times to get a m1 mbp and m1 mac mini but every time I go to pull the trigger I always stop myself. Really waiting for the 14" mbp and either the large imac or mac pro.

Last year I bought an Intel based Macbook Air. Shortly after the MI announcement was made. I was wondering if I'd jumped the gun, albeit unknowingly. Then, two weeks ago I bought an M1 Mac Mini, the base model with 8 gigs of RAM and 256gb SSD.

I have a mix of legacy and updated apps running on the M1, notably Office 365 being the most used application suite.

I have the Adobe suite installed (Photoshop and Lightroom) on both machines. The Mini is the better performer, of course, but the MBA doesn't do too bad.

Eventually I'll get an updated MBA, but for now it does the job, accessing stuff away from home.

Had a 15 inch 2016 MBP, bought the M1 Pro. No remorse because we all knew what was coming. The battery was old on the 2016 and I could last maybe an hour on a charge. Going from that to 20 hours was nice and performance is good. Going to test and use this until the 14 inch comes out, then sell my 2016 and keep the M1 as a secondary device or pass it on to a close friend.

Using my MBP M1 8/512 for one month now and not a second of regret. What a feast working on that beast. Coming from a mid 2015 MBP i7 this rocks. Timing is everything, I think I got the best price for trading in my old MBP that time. The Intel MBP trading prices will drop (hard) now. So waiting can be rewarding but also punishing in the end. And boy.... you are missing out in the fun right now ;)

Lol. Even with an ill fated keyboard cover battery temps don’t even rise past 27C for me.
