Panic as you wish but I have never had a screen protector on my iPhones and never scratched a screen.
Don't think you need a screen protector generally for scratches, but I think it helps prevent the screen from breaking when dropped. I've used protectors for all my phones dating back to the 3G and never broke a sceen.Ugh. I've always enjoyed how hard iPhone screens are to scratch. I'm going to be sad if screen protectors are now required.
I've had an iPhone 4, 5, 6, and 7 Plus. Never used a protector, never had scratches.
Further these are probably the first units off the proaction line and the oleophobic coating probably hadn't finished curing by the time the reviewers got their hands on the review units. That's likely what has scratched or smudged.
Does not help at all with drops. One or both will crack. Protector more likely.Don't think you need a screen protector generally for scratches, but I think it helps prevent the screen from breaking when dropped. I've used protectors for all my phones dating back to the 3G and never broke a sceen.
The negative thing about glass screen protectors though is reduced finger sensitivity IMO. Slight, but noticeable.
Tempered glass screen protectors for the win.
Gorilla glass 5 is more prone to scratches, and more resistant to cracks/breaks
So, in other words, you got a scratch.Never had a screen protector on my phone except my 3G and that was a n00b thing. After that, never. Never scratched my phone until recently where my X had a minor scuff along the right edge, barely noticeable under certain light. Not sure how or where it came from. Other than that, never had an issue. Always ran nekkid too! Am using a silicon apple case on the Max tho for now. Just to get used to having a plus sized phone again.![]()
So, in other words, you got a scratch.
I’ve dropped my phone on wood floors and concrete driveway so bad it jacked my leather Apple case. No cracks. My job used to be the reporting/testing/analytics behind selling you screen protectors. If in a purse or bag, it’s helpful. Drops.. no help. Glass protector just more Likely to crack so when it cracks and your iPhone screen doesn’t you think it saved it.Tempered glass screen protector 100% protects from cracks and drops. The way it sticks to the screen gives the screen an almost second layer of strength plus a tiny shock absorbant buffer. Has saved my ass more times than I can count. Literally. They have cracked and scratched in place of the screen so many times that I will never be without no matter how supposedly scratch resistant the gorilla glass is.
Reduced finger sensitivity? (That’s what she said - lol couldn’t resist). But I have not seen this phenomenon when installed correctly with no bubbles or dust underneath. If you have problems with it use the hot shower method (not a joke this time lol). Turn your shower on without the fan, close the bathroom door. Make sure it gets real steamy for 2-3 mins, then turn it off and close the door again and wait for the steam to pretty much clear. Then go in and close the door behind you and install the screen protector. The moisture will have clung to any dust or whatever in the air and made it heavy enough to drop to the floor. It works aces I never get a bubble or dust any more.
I drop my phone once a week if not more from 3-4 feet up. My case and screen protector has made sure I have never cracked an iPhone. Not once.
Depends on your definition. Scratch to me is long and linear. Scuff is short and broad. However if you're trying to get me to say my screen is now imperfect, yes it is. Also, I am cool with thatIt's a tool. I don't care. I don't obsess.
First phone out of the 11 I have had to have an issue, I'm doing just fine!
Cement will definitely scratch.Guy's literally dropping it into a public fountain at one point in that video, not surprised.
The extra thickness is 0.3 mm.The depth alone with glass protectors is reason enough not to use. Spend all that $ on a gorgeous screen close to edge and put it under several mm of extra glass.
My eyes can see it. They just bug me.The extra thickness is 0.3 mm.
My s9+ got a scratch the day I unboxed it. The s8 did good with scratches but the s9 did poor with them.I have used a Galaxy S8 Plus now for 12 Months with No front display screen protector.
And it has Zero scratches. It's been dropped. It's been in pockets with keys and nothing.
And its Gorilla Glass 5.
I do have case on it.
This is happening with my 7 Plus and I cant figure it outNot too surprised-- my iPhone X screen has been way more prone to scratches than any iPhone I've used (and I've used them all since the iPhone 4). I have gone without a screen protector or case on every iPhone, and the X is the only one I've owned where I have many noticeable scratches within one year.
If you're doing this I can see why you would get one. I drop my phone like 1-2x a year at the maximum. I never buy AppleCare either because i'm generally not clumsy with my phone.I drop my phone once a week if not more from 3-4 feet up. My case and screen protector has made sure I have never cracked an iPhone. Not once.
I'll be so bold as to quote myself.Looked at my wife’s X. .. now keep in mind she is the polar opposite of me. I keep my screen clean. I usually have a microfiber cloth nearby. If near sand screen is blown off before cloth. I can’t count how many times she’s asked why her pictures are so blurry and it’s due to smudge all over the lens cover. Crazy successful and smart woman.. she just doesn’t care about a clean phone.
It’s a minefield. Damn. Scratches, long scratches, across the screen vertically and horizontally. I may have nightmares.
FWIW a pristine screen helps a LOT for resale value.Tempered glass screen protectors for the win.
It’s just different strokes. I used to protect my screens. I used to care about resale. I still take care of my phones (& screen) but I personally love the feel of the actual glass and that is the experience I love. I’m not right or wrong.I'll be so bold as to quote myself.

Fair enough. However, I'm talking about your wife's phone here actually, not yours. It’s just different strokes. I used to protect my screens. I used to care about resale.
