As some of you know, the World Cup is kicking off this Friday and I'm not aware of a reliable way to currently watch any of the games, which will be broadcast on ESPN/ABC here in the states. Does anyone know of any reliable ways to watch the games on the ipad(streaming)? Without using either Slingbox/EyeTV or something similar. I've looked into Justin.tv/ustream and TVU, none of which seem to have reliable/decent quality streams. Any advice would be appreciate as I'm sure I'm not the only one looking into this.

Keep your eye on espn3.com. It's flash right now, but you never know there could be some change before the cup.

Eurosport player is excellent, you have to pay for it but the charge is nominal, like £2+ for a month.

ETA: Oh sorry, I'm not sure whether it'll work in the States, you'd need to check.

I doubt it, ESPN3 has needed a revamping for a while now, so I doubt a huge change in the next couple days is likely.

didn't read my post i take it :)

Are you asking the op what this is or suggesting it? The OP orginally said "Without using either Slingbox/EyeTV or something similar."

Sorry walkingcity, I responded to the wrong post.

Wish I had an answer for you. I may not be a rabid fan, I would certainly like to watch some of the bigger matchups.

Besides, I am so torn over who to cheer for.

I'm American so I cheer the US?
I am from German/Scot/Irish decent so,,,,, forget that, to confusing.
Lived in England for a number of years following football and have a soft spot in my heart for England National Team, so cheer for England?
Married to a Latina, so I cheer for a Latino team?

Nevermind, the world cup is giving me a headache. :D

And I'm on just about the last major provider not to offer it. Thanks a lot Time Warner...

Elise - no dice on Eurosport Player either without a VPN. :( I hate, hate country restrictions (it's just as stupid you guys can't get Hulu or Pandora).

Was hoping for this but with it still being flash I doubt we're gonna get it set up in time. In fact, I'm gonna say the chances are low because ESPN won't want to risk there being a break somewhere along the way for something so big. Would think they would want to get the switch in about a week or more in advance just to be safe.

Someone may be streaming it on veetle though?

DirecTV sent me word that they upgraded my receiver/DVR to be able to process images in 3D, and that they are carrying the World Cup in 3D. Acknowledging the OP'S proviso, if I sling the signal from the DVR to my MBP (and don the requisite silly-looking glasses), would the 3D images survive?

My guess is that they would, since this genre of 3D seems to be dependent only on an image which ought to be able to be faithfully transmitted through Sling technology and decoded with the bi-color glasses, but at my level of understanding this can only be a guess. Anybody know?
