I don't know if a CD for CD/DVD slot would have been too much or not, what you guys think?

I'm not sure...

What could you really even do with a CD slot? Just for playing movies/music i suppose...either way, the added size/weight/battery drain would totally change the device to something else, and it would not be worth it IMO.

Are you talking about just a CD slot, or do you actually want a CD/DVD-ROM mechanism in there, on the other side of it?

Yeah for DVD and CD, I don't know if I would want it...I was curious to see what you guys would think...

+1 for the tape deck suggestion. Or perhaps one of those nice floppy disk thingamajigs.

They should also have a Terminal app and add extra hard drive bays, maybe stick in some PCI Express slots in there too whilst you're at it.

A) There's no file browser, so that would limit you to CDs and DVDs

B) Apple wants you to purchase your media through iTunes, so why would they let you directly play CDs and DVDs?

C) Slot drives kill battery life, are loud, vibrate the device, and would at least double the thickness of the iPad, and increase the weight.

I honestly can't remember the last time I touched a CD, must be close to 5 years ago. But yeah, if you're willing to give up a couple hours of battery life, you could have a CD reader in there, but it makes zero sense for most people.

I've used the CD drive in my MBP once or twice this year. Things are moving more towards download and with apple pushing iTunes im sure they cant wait to see the death of the CD.
