The smallest and lightest notebooks/netbooks to get cd/dvd mechs are made by Sony and are uber expensive. Why do you think even the Macbook Air doesn't rate a cd drive and has an optional external drive and that software "sharing" workaround? If it doesn't fit a 3 pound machine, why should it fit a 1.5 pound machine?

Oh how did I let myself take this bait?

I just want to know what inconsiderate buffoon at Apple decided not to include a 78 rpm record player or at least an 8-track tape deck in the iPad? :p

What's a CD?

Seriously, I cannot remember the last time I purchased a CD. Most things are legitimately downloadable from the Internet.

I don't think Apple has any desire to help prolong the life of optical media anymore than it already has. Besides, the question is obviously meant to be a joke.

Ipad should have had a CD spindle sticking out of the Apple logo on the back, with a fold up laser mounted in a tiny door in the aluminum shell. When you want to play a CD or DVD, you stick your disc on the Apple-logo spindle but must be careful not to lay the Ipad down or lean it in such a way that it might disturb the spinning disc.

Also cool is that the laser could be used by the built-in iLaser app to play with your cats.

Seriously, where would a drive for the disc go? Or do you just want a slot in the case to store a single disc so you don't have to carry two things from room to room?

This is one of the odder thread topics I've seen lately.

as the tech world evolves everything is going to become digital(not physical)
so before they put in a cd drive, which are dying out, I'd want flash drive support

People who haven't gotten used to new technology act like this. Its like when I used to hear people ask if a vehicle has a tape deck. They were hesitant to try something unfamiliar. Now, hardly any modern vehicles come with tape decks. They come with cd slots. Many now come with MP3 player (iPod) connections standard.

People will eventually catch up with the technology; us who have just need to be patient.

I'm very into technology... This thread was sort of a test, and is true. Useless thread like this one are always the one that stays alive the most.

So the best way to fight a useless thread is not to replying to it because in minutes new threads will push the useless thread down the line.

So, if you think a thread is useless DON'T REPLY.

Wtf? I wanted a Laserdisc instead :p

I want a 2nd LCD on the back. And bacon. Bacon makes everything better. Mmmmmm.......Bac-O-Pad....numnummmm....

Of the 6, how many are serious?

So of the currently 6 votes in favor of the cd drive, how many do you think are actually serious? I know at least one of them isnt;):D

Why stop at a cd slot what about a physical keyboard attached to it on a hinge and scrap the solid-state hard drive and put a bigger one in and a removable battery....oh wait ;);):D

Think the iPad is great the way it is, the more I use it the more i realize how much thought apple put into this fantastic device.

I need a USB to plug in a mouse.

And firewire for an external HD.

And a minidispay port to run an external monitor.

And an included SD slot (not that stupid dongle)

And...wait, am I still talking about the iPad?
