Wow, I think this is quite possibly the most decisive poll I've ever seen.

What's amazing to me is that 6 people actually said yes! Who are these people? Did they just mis-read the poll? Maybe they were using the iPad, and their fat fingers betrayed them & hit the wrong response?

Hey why stop at a CD slot? Rock Out!:

In theory if all you added was the slot, no weight, bulk or loss of battery life or anything else, this would be a minor plus. In the real world, it's a non-starter.

That was the Windows crowd that also lusts after USB ports, and handwriting recognition.

Would a USB, SD slot, or a mini DVI been too much?

No, none of these would have been too much for the ipad. Get rid of the dock and you could equip ALL of these.

THAT'S what would get me to buy it.

And if you can fit a camera to a NANO, you can fit one on an oversized ipod touch!

Someone once said, there are no dumb questions...

They apparently never visited MacRumors forums.

;)

Unless I misread the question and the TC wants his iPad to hold a CD for storage reasons.

I have a 10 laser disk changer hooked up to my tv in the basement to watch films like Mortal Combat, that are best on the laser disk.

Can I use hand break to rip laserdiscs?

Why would you need to use Handbrake if you could just stick the laser disc right onto the iPad? ;):D

The CD is not dead. It just doesn't fit this device's use case.
It is not quite dead yet... but it is on life support, with no hope of recovery.

I am disappointed that laptops still come with optical drives. Why they heck would I possibly want one in an iPad.
