I would have already bought it if they offered it with this new batch. No questions asked, I would have it now.

But with the whole line now refreshed except the mini, I'm pretty sure we won't see a mini upgrade until this time next year, if we ever do at all. I was really waiting for it, but now without any upgrade, I'm going to jump on Best Buy's $150 trade in offer for the mini2, and the $299 sale for the mini 4. I'll end up with a new battery (my mini2 is over 2-1/2 years old, so it'll be due soon, though mine isn't terrible), plus the TouchID, higher memory (64GB -> 128GB), and the better chip and more ram. It's worth the $150 when the battery alone would be $99. If they do upgrade next year, hopefully I'll be able to trade this one in for something towards the next one.

I think they should update the mini just so new buyers don't feel like they're buying really old hardware, but frankly I still find my mini 4 very usable and probably wouldn't upgrade without some serious spec bumps.

  • Multitasking is sort of irrelevant on this screen form factor, so extra RAM isn't as much of a concern right now.
  • I find the experience of using the mini 4 just slightly slower than the iPad Pro, but not in anyway unpleasant or crashy.
  • I'd love some sort of smart keyboard for the mini, but I'm really not sure it's feasible in that form factor. So that's not keeping me up at night.

I’d be happy if we just got a spec bump. Put an A9 in the thing and I’ll buy it
Though I’d like it to be more than just that.

The whole pro moniker just confuses things.
Like above, if they up the CPU which i guess they'll do in due course what does it matter if its a pro or not?

Anti-reflective coating, ProMotion technology, True Tone display, Quad-LED True Tone flash are not really earth shattering and dont really make much difference. Maybe some would like/benefit from the 4 speakers and the 120hz for better scrolling but, its not game changing for me.

If they released a Mini Pro or even a Mini that supported the pencil, and I was rich, I would buy the Mini for taking out and about and the 12.9 for at home. I even said that the day before the announcement. As it is, I traded in my iPad Pro 9.7 and bought the 10.5, which is the best (for me) compromise size.

I still miss my mini even though it's been gone for a long time - I traded it in to get the 9.7, but I'd happily go back if I could use my pencil with it.
