I wonder if people will actually wait until they're paying $5000 for an 8TB phone before they come to their senses and start using the cloud or external storage for some of their media.
The cloud is only as useful as the reliability and speed of one's internet connection.

Also, you seem to be assuming people aren't already using external storage or the cloud paired with the large local storage on their iOS device.

I've got a 20TB NAS in addition to DRM'd content on distributors/providers' cloud (iTunes, Vudu, Comixology, etc). Iirc, my iTunes 1080p movie downloads are 6-15GB a pop depending on movie length and quality (HDR, etc). 1TB is just a fraction of my collection. Probably won't even be enough to hold my Comixology library.

That said, I expect most of us have our own limits on what we're willing to pay depending on finances and perceived value. My personal limit on iPhones is ~$800 for 256GB. Might downsize to 128GB if the SE2/9 doesn't come with a 256GB model. 128GB's the smallest I'd go, though.

3 years later and I've only used 37GB on my 256GB iPhone 7 Plus. So no, I don't think I would. My husband however, his 128GB 6S is filled to bursting and it's looking like he'll get my 7 Plus as I get 7 128GB for a sweet deal.

His 6S is going to crap too, he's rough on his things.

Waiting to pay $5000 doesn’t make sense. Price for storage decreases over time, not increases.

Also I suspect companies could make phones with large storage capacity at affordable prices, but they have no desire to do so when they can charge users a monthly subscription for cloud storage indefinitely.

That said, the user (and the patient) would likely appreciate having said media on a 13" iPad rather than a 6" phone.
Yeah, larger screen is generally better for enjoying contents than on a tiny 6” screen. Phablet is really not the way to go.

I bought 256GB thinking I would be capturing 4K video on my phone etc - well, I've only used about 40GB. Doubt I would ever get anywhere close to 256GB!

I wonder if you’ll come to your senses and realize that storing everything in the cloud is not convenient and certainly not ideal in situations where connection speed is limited, not to mention the fact that data caps are still a very real thing. Seriously, get over yourself and realize that people use their phones differently than you. And why on earth would you recommend someone put their media on external storage when we’re talking about phones? That makes literally no sense. I use Infuse, which is a media library metadata hub for movies, complete with cover art and it even pulls subtitles directly from the web. I use it often when I’m vacationing and it’s a great way to have a big library of entertainment in my pocket without having to use up data and it’s also great for entertaining my nephews as well. This app exists because developers, unlike you, understand that people use their phones in many different ways. The fact that you don’t understand this is mind-boggling.

Seriously, get over yourself and realize that people use their phones differently than you. You're right.. it's just a phone. It's not meant to be the best digital jukebox, digital camera, storage server, Apple TX, navigation device, book reader, payment system, calendar, etc.

People use it for everything and that is driving the price up for people like me who use it as just a phone (communication device) - I'm deaf and cannot use a phone like you can.. I need it for messages and email but they're getting so expensive because of the people who are using it to replace every other gadget on the planet (supply and demand).

I’m driving up the price of the phone? Are you even reading what you’re typing? Lol. That is the silliest thing I’ve ever read on the internet. I’m using the phone exactly as it was intended. There are cheap Android phones that text and email just fine if that’s all you use it for. And if you’re adamant about iPhones, you don’t have to buy new iPhones when they come out. You can get a used iPhone in perfect working condition on Swappa.com for a couple hundred bucks. It sounds to me like you need to make better financial decisions than arbitrarily blaming other people for the phone being expensive.

It seems to me Apple's iPhone and iPad portfolio is more diversified now than it was before. Options range from $450 (iPhone 8) and $330 (iPad 10.2") on the entry level to $$$$ on the high end.

I'm like you in that I primarily use the iPhone simply for communication. For that, my 3-year old (going on 4) iPhone 7 works fine barring the weak battery. I'm looking forward to a hopefully eSIM/dual-SIM capable $400-450 4.7" TouchID iPhone SE2/9, though.

The $1000+ iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are simply out of my radar (and price range). They're there for people who want them but no one's forced to buy the most expensive devices in the line up.

An Android phone wouldn't be able to pair with an Apple Watch well enough. I was given an Apple Watch S4 because I cannot hear my iPhone ring and cannot feel the vibrations in my pocket (I'm deaf). So, I missed some notifications until someone gave me an Apple Watch. You're not even listening, you're simply coming up with excuses to maintain your status quo. Well, can't say I didn't try. Have a nice day.

I don’t have a status. I literally just stated I have a need for extra storage and stated those needs. My phone isn't a status symbol. It's an extension of my daily life and it suits my needs. Apple is the only one that hits all the marks as far as what I use a phone for. It seems like you're the one that isn't listening ... and anyone that uses the phone in a way you don't agree with, even though they're using the phone exactly as it was designed, you go all up in arms. It makes zero sense.

I generally use 23-30gb on my phones so no I don't need 1TB personally, but I would like it if the starting point was 128 instead of 64. Then I might find myself keeping more on my phone than I currently do now. IDK....

Many Android phones are now having 128GB as the standard. I think iPhone will get there eventually. I just wonder how they'll do the price tiers.

The way storage is going one of these days 1tb will be like 8gb today.

Sure, when it become standard storage space and cost around $650-700 for the phone. In other word, not anytime soon. If I need that much space, honestly I get an Android phone with a microSD slot.

Well, at least we know some of the MacRumors commenters who don't shoot or watch 4K video...

Wait until 8K video shows up. It's just around the corner. 8K sets were announced at CES.

There will be 8K footage from the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Joe Consumer in America thinks this is a pie-in-the-sky concept but my guess is that tourists to Japan this summer will see 8K broadcasts on Jumbotrons as they walk through the arrival terminals of Haneda, Narita, and Kansai International Airports.

Much like people did not think 4K was a big deal some years ago and 1080P before that

It’s hilarious how people always think “we are fine here”. I’m sure there are some who thought that in the days of VGA@30FPS, now we are at 4K@60FPS HDR, VGA looks like utter crap.
