i have a 21.5" late 2012 iMac and a late 2013 27" iMac BUT if the rumours are true and in October a 5K iMac with 980MX and Thunderbolt 2 will be release..i will buy again

I've owned one or more since 1989. I don't think I'll change now.

Thats a lot of upgrades in short period of time. You must really want that 5k imac with 980mx.

I am on my second iMac. I currently have a late 2012 3.4GHz i7 27" with 32GB RAM. It's still works exceedingly well, though should it die, I will get another one.

Interesting question, Prior to last week, I'd say unequivocally yes. With seeing the Surface Studio, I'm rather hesitant. Of course I'm on a 2015 iMac and I foresee many years of usage. I'll have a better grasp of my buying plans when its actually time to buy. As it stands however, I'll not blindly buy another iMac because it has the fruit logo on the back. I'll do my due diligence and find the best tool for the job. For many, many years it was Macs, so I hope that continues

I'm on my 6th iMac (G3, G4, G5, Intel Plastic, Aluminium Unibody and current 2015 gen) and will absolutely continue to get them.

They're my favourite Mac - look great, work great and are very reliable :)

I bought a late model 2014 iMac 27" 5k after being a PC person after 30+ years. I was not the typical PC person for the last 10 years of being a PC person I built my own computers. I can honestly say I glad I switched over to Apple and the iMac. Yes I would buy another iMac in a heartbeat. I know I could build a more powerful computer or even purchase a more power Apple computer, but I like sitting in front of my iMac the first thing in the morning and pressing a key on the keyboard to bring the computer up and running instantly. Getting to work developing and designing my websites is more relaxing than tinkering under the hood of the computer. On the PC side I was always updating the OS or searching for a particular driver for a device because Windows couldn't find it. I do admit I'm a little leery when things start going wrong on this computer, but so far so good (knocking on wood as I type this).

More than likely.

When the time comes I'll definitely see what's out there though. Honestly if I were to get a Windows machine I'd probably build my own.

There is still so much I prefer about OS X/MacOS over windows currently to switch.

Time machine, iMessage, iCloud, Pages, Photos and iCloud Photo Library, iTunes on OSX (never cared for it on Windows) same with Safari, and of course security with minimal viruses and such, etc etc

I am not sure if I would. Until this past summer I was a student (engineering) and needed the power that the quad core could give, while still having the portability of the 13" MBP. Biking >20 km every day with a heavy backpack isn't exactly very good for my back, hence I chose the smaller MBP.

Since then I graduated and no longer have the need for the smaller laptop. I am also traveling regularly where I enjoy using my computer. So with that in mind I have pre-ordered the new 15" MBP. So now I just have to see how that performs. And figure out which ≥27" display I want :D

Yes,

I purchased my first late 2007 20" C2D in early 2008. I then purchased a Late 2015 27" 5K this summer. Very Happy with it. My son is using the 07 now. I am sure I will get an easy 5 more years with the 27" before considering an upgrade.

Had a 24" iMac for 9 years which my brother is using now and it is still performing flawlessly. I now have a beautiful 27" that is running perfectly and looks amazing. Also still have my graphite G3 that is running just fine for its limited use. Look forward to buying another years from now.

I love my iMac. It's a near perfect photographer's computer. If you buy a fully spec'd out one and upgrade the RAM you can get 7-9 years out of them with nothing but smooth performance.

I say no, but I keep buying them. I've had the teal G3, the lampshade style G3, a 2007, 2010 and now this 2013 (which was built in 2015). I bought this 27" on sale last year for school and regret it only because my 2010 21.5" had another year of life in it and this was just a reminder of how much $ I wasted on school.

Of course I would. It's a fantastic home computer. I would like a 4k 21.5" all ssd. A configuration of the current machine with 512GB doesn't seem so unreasonably expensive now, having in mind the price hike of the MBP.

The question is whether I should wait for the update with USB-C ports or not. Me thinks I'd better do. I've kept my 2010 i3 21.5" for nearly 6 years now. It is to be expected that in 2-3 years from now the USB-C will be the defacto standard. The problem is that the 21.5" has not user upgradeable ram and Apple asks for €250 to upgrade it to 16GB. I am not sure if I will need that much - it's a home computer used mainly for facebook and processing photographs and the occasional game.

Will the new 4k iMac be more expensive than the current one? I have the feeling Apple will eliminate the lowRes iMacs and from next year on there will be only 4k and 5k iMacs.

Alternatively, I might get a macbook (or the pro sans touch bar) with 512GB ssd. Having an all-ssd system and hiRes display is what is most important to me.

I replaced my rMBP and Dell 30" monitor with an iMac the day the retina models came out. Whereas I used to replace or at least substantially rebuild my Windows computers at least every year (in the 80s and 90s I owned a computer company) I have no need to do that to the iMac. I expect it'll last for a fair while yet. The next one will have to be USB-3 of course, and have at least 2Tb SSD, but I'm also hoping for a jump in graphics power which it'll undoubtedly have. Not this iteration, perhaps the next one. I can't imagine my next main desktop computer not being an iMac.

I was thinking today how much I like my imac. Just about the only thing I dislike about it is I have no vesa mount since I bought it directly from the apple store. Its just frustrating not being able to set it up mounted on the wall and everything like I had originally planned. Just having it on the wall with no external boxes with the wires hidden. just pure bliss.

I am thinking next upgrade cycle I will opt for another imac just with vesa support. So what about everyone else. Would you buy a imac again or change to something else.

[doublepost=1478377366][/doublepost]I've owned two iMacs but switched to a 2012 Mini (i7 quad core) so that I could easily increase storage and RAM, in addition to running 2 24" monitors. As long as there's a Mini capable of handling this sort of setup, that will be my first choice, but I have my doubts that Apple will offer such a Mini in the future. This may force me back to iMac.

I am on my third iMac, this one being a 2011 27" Ivy Bridge 3.4 Ghz--fully loaded, well almost--only 24 GB of RAM. It has been a wonderful machine, doing all I ask, always, responding promptly without bogging down. And, the non-Retina has been fine. With a Dropbox C for bulk data storage and a 4TB backup, drive, I am in good shape. Still, as it approaches the "Vintage" status, I will look to buy another CTO, top end iMac. They work superbly, do all that I want, so there is no reason to look elsewhere.

No. I've had two iMacs -- one was my first Mac, back in 2005 and then I tried a Mac Mini for a few years, then went back to the iMac in 2012 (purchased early in 2013). The 27" is gorgeous but it is way too large for me to handle physically and so I've stuck with the 21.5" size, and of course there are some significant limitations with that. Last year I was eagerly awaiting the announcement of the retina version of the 21.5" iMac, but when the specs were available I was seriously disappointed. I then decided to just go with the more flexible mobile route -- i.e., I bought the 15" 2015 rMBP instead and put it on a stand so that I use it as a desktop substitute, with separate BT keyboard, mouse and trackpad. I figured that when I got around to it I'd also purchase a 24" monitor to use with it but so far I just haven't gotten around to that! I've been very pleased with using the rMBP as a desktop substitute and certainly it is much easier to handle when it comes to physical lifting and carrying and such. I appreciate the greater flexibility my current setup gives me and so I daresay that probably I'll never buy another iMac again but will continue using the various iterations of future rMBPs as they come along......

No. I wouldn't buy another iMac as the current lot are not upgradable so that doesn't bode well for the future. Microsoft owns this segment now as they've forced Apple to go back to the drawing board and reinvent the iMac. Still, Apple owns the iPhone market so probably don't care.

I have owned a 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011 and now 2015 iMac. All great iMac computers. And going forward I will continue purchasing iMacs.

The iMac has never been about user upgradable except maybe for the RAM. And it remains to be seen what the Surface Studio will do as it has not been released yet, plus the initial reviews have been mixed. Who is to say what Apple has planned for the iMac. I doubt the Surface Studio had anything to do with that. More probable that Apple is waiting on the release of the Desktop Sky Lake CPU.

Depends on the price. There was a period in which the 27inchers were really expensive.

I had a late 2009 24incher and loved it, it was my first Mac since the Apple IIgs and I fell in love, and haven't gone back.

But the 27inch model was very expensive, so much so that I kept my Apple mouse and keyboard, bought an Asus 27inch monitor with 2560X1440 resolution, and used a MacBook Air as the computer.

If a new Mac Mini would finally come out and have decent specs, it would be even better for less money.

I don't see why not.

Throughout the years I've had a number of iMacs and all were great. Solid performers (well, based on my needs at least) and hardly any issues I can think of.

Starting with a iMac G5 17" from 2004, it lasted me until 2011 when I finally upgraded to a 21.5" iMac. In 2015 I upgraded from the 21.5" to the 27" model. This is my main machine right now and I plan on keeping it until SSDs become standard across the lineup.

I sure would but only one of the top spec models. The performance on the lower end models is too unsatisfactory.

I'm a huge Mac fan so I will only switch to Windows if it becomes absolutely necessary, say 10 years down the line macOS is just so thoroughly ruined by Apple that is no longer a viable option, then I would have no option but to switch.

I truly hope that does not happen.
