No but I think $1000 was way to high for what I paid for my X. Not enough features imo. Might be my last iPhone. Unless Apple starts giving us more features.

You left out the minor detail of monthly payments for two years...
*For the service*, which I was going to pay whether or not I got a new phone. I am making no additional payments for the phone. My bill did not go up one penny. So, I got the phone for $599 and all I lost was the ability to change carriers in the next two years, which I didn't need anyway.

I can't believe spend what they do now for a phone. I'm looking to go cheaper, not more expensive, as I just don't see even $800 worth of value in a smartphone.

I wouldn't buy a plus sized phone at any price so the question doesn't apply to me. What I would be willing to spend on the next version of the regular sized X depends on what new features it has. I like the latest and greatest, but my current X more than meets my needs.

It really depends on what features come with it. Conceivably, I can imagine an iPhone having features/specs that justifies a $1500 price tag.

But if the rumors are accurate, I won’t be buying at that price point. I’m not going to knock anyone who does but that’s too rich for my blood.

Not familiar with the deal as I'm not in the US, but it sounds like that's just splitting the upfront cost over 30 months. The service is additional right? If so, the rest of the phone's value will be built into that, like most American subsidized plans.

No.

AT&T had a deal.

30 months x USD 20 per month
0 upfront
Buy one get one free if you add a new line.

Carriers have been moving away from subsidized here in the US. Pretty sure ATT followed suit just like T-Mobile where you only pay retail cost over 2 years without interest and you can pay off the device cost earlier if you want and there is no contract at least in the plans Ive seen. I mean you even have buy 1 get 1 deals at T-Mobile and some others where you get a $700 gift card for the second device cost and you can leave after getting it, so no contract there either. Some of the better deals aren’t advertised by carriers and you have to do your own research, like I have unlimited international calling for $10 extra on my entire account rather than per line thanks to a hidden promo.

Yes I remember reading about that... But basically you still have to pay for the cost of the phone, through a payment plan or whatever... The guy I was replying to thinks that $600 is the total you guys pay for an X, which is not true.

If it were I'd buy 100s and resell them in various countries.

Oh yeah, I missed the part where he said $600 for an X which means that particular plan is discounted so he’s probably stuck for two years.

On the discount I got I had to buy 2 iPhones at retail cost at either Apple or Costco and submit receipts at TMO and they give a $700 visa gift for the second within 6 weeks. I had to add 1 unlimited line which I’m gonna cancel after 6 weeks. I also had a 300 Apple gift card from earlier so effectively buy 1 get 1 for me since I bought two Sim Free Qualcomm 256GB 8+.

Some buy 1 get 1 deals carriers give the price of the 2nd phone over 24 bill credits and your current plan stays the same. So not always a subsidy, Verizon has something like that earlier that my relatives took advantage of.

If Apple migrates to this price range, you won't have a choice as Samsung and the other OEM's will also jack up the prices of their flagships to a similar level.

Nope. The plan remains the same whether or not you go for the iPhone. Same monthly.

IFF the iPhone XI supports B14 and 4x4 MIMO, and I can buy a Qualcomm X20 unlocked version, I would consider it up to *maybe* $1200. With the AC+ and the cost of getting a USC-C PD charger (I already have a bunch of Qualcomm QC2 and QC3 chargers) if it doesn't come with one in the box, it's looking less and less attractive compared to a Galaxy S9 Active or Note 9.

I suppose if S Jobs suddenly rises from the ashes and designs a never-seen-before X+ that no mere mortal could, maybe.

No and you would be an idiot with too much money, and someone who has material things to prove themselves as being better if you did! IMO.
It would be a mass produced device in a Chinese sweat shop factory, not something hand crafted by the finest craftsmen.

But I guess this is the new YouTube generation where the top end iPhone is considered a rich status symbol. And will be dumped and replaced the next year and so on this warranting Apple to rip everyone off.

Note my opinion is if you bought an iPhone outright for $1500, not if that was a 2 year contract price.

Is the average consumer going to pay $1500 for a smart phone? That’s most likely an astounding *No*. Especially now that smart phones are being retained longer and you don’t have those who are upgrading as often, $1500 smart phone is not going to be an attractive seller _no_ matter what technology its boasting. But the reality is, there should not be an iPhone anywhere near that cost if the rumors are true that Apple might reduce the prices of the current iPhone X platform this fall.

Consumers may not necessarily be tech savvy about everything that we discuss on a site like this, but some of them are very financially smart, and there is a point where smart phones are certainly not worth the cost versus benefit ratio if it were to reach a price of $1500, especially in other countries where smart phones are already highly expensive as it is.

If it’s $1500 in USA, the price would be unimaginable in Europe. They shouldn’t even bother offering it for sale.

There are mid range smartphones in the 650usd range that can do everything the 1000usd plus phones can do, i think a 1500 smartphone is a stupid purchase.

I'll just buy the iPhone 8. Easy.
Heck, actually my 6S still works great as a phone, with the exception of the battery life (can't work around the tiny battery it has). I'm happy for those who can afford the latest and greatest, and at the same time, I know what I need and my own limits. Considering Apple is still supporting the iPhone 5S with iOS12, I can see iPhone 7 or 8 to be supported for quite some time. We are at the point that the main components like the SoC is fast enough for normal tasks. The rest of extra features (dual camera, FaceID, etc) are icing on the cake.

Apple is selling a $1300 Apple Watch Edition, an iPhone accessory. A $1500 iPhone is not too farfetched. Heck, even Apple was surprised how many people buying the $1k iPhone X. And it's not like Apple only has one iPhone model for sale. There are a slew of iPhone models now from $350 to $1k+ price points.

Price isn’t an issue for me. I’ve always gotten the new iPhone for my wife and I with the highest storage. I’ll be doing the same with the next new iPhone.

Phones don’t last long enough to pay that high of a price tag. Unless I’m expensing it, then it doesn’t matter.
