These "Ios is not good enough because its not good for productivity" sermons are really childish.

Yes, on the work front , i have a full fledged desktop which helps me in photoshop/music editing. But when i want to chill, i throw productivity out the window and want to enjoy the best in gaming/entertainment that the tablet world has to offer . And ios has a lot more to offer than android and windows currently.

Mostly yes. I do have serious issues with some apps and their saved states when switching between 3-4 apps to get things done. Some apps I can't copy text out of, or the file I'm viewing won't allow it, so I have to memorize it (since I can't split screen) and then the apps I'm switching to are password protected and time out after a few switches.

That said, tablet friendly apps win out, however everything I use would be on an Android tablet, but I'd probably go new Nexus 7.

I am intrigued about the rumored $150 price drop for Surface RTs. Still doesn't have enough apps that I use, but should help them get more marketshare.

Apart from touch enabled good indie gaming titles, I cannot see where an ipad excels over a windows tablet. And considering how games are less important in my entertainment portfolio, an ipad is nothing more than an expensive toy to me compared to a flexible windows tablet.

Would you rather own an iPad, a Windows tablet or a Samsung galaxy tablet?

IPad.

----------

I have a Samsung Ativ Smart PC 500t and absolutely love it.

I like having the full OS on it and the stylus with active digitizer.

I've had two iPads in the past (a 1st gen and a 3rd gen) and find the Windows 8 Tablet to be more useful.

Samsung definitely wins for having confusing product lines! Have you heard of the samsung ativ one 5 style? This is a real product which has nothing to do with tablets or laptops.

Hard choice. It's the aesthetics that matter to me and I'd prefer a square button to a circular button. I'll have to settle with an iPad.

If you are talking about a 7-8 inch tablet--iPad Mini, Nexus 7, or Galaxy Note 8.

Currently the only Win 8 tablet out there in the 7-8" tablet category is not very good hardware wise. It's also pretty slow and a PITA to work with in desktop mode. Found my self having to tap 2-3 times to before I hit the right icon. (Yes, I have played around with the Iconia W3 in Staples and Office Depot a couple of times.)

Also, I have a desktop and a laptop at home, so I one of many RDP apps and use my Nexus 7 as a thin client.

Now if you are talking about 10"+ tablets. I would take a iPad 4 or a Lenovo Yoga.

The lack of tablet optimized apps becomes a big problem on 10" Android tablets. So, the Nexus 10 is out.

The Yoga is awesome. It comes in 11" and 13", large enough to make desktop Win 8 actually productive for fingers. When I need it as a productivity device, I just fold out the keyboard and it turns into an Ultrabook (no kickstands required ) :).

Win x86 tablet, preferably the Core line

One example why... I'm running Ableton 9 on my Surface Pro. On iOS all I get is the ability to turn my iPad into a controller, which is kinda pointless.

Everything I can do on my W8 tablet is what I was hoping I'd be able to do on my iPad back in 2010 when I drove to Santa Monica to get one on launch day. That was before Apple decided to turn tablet software into a budget market full of $2 minigames, flashlight apps, and impulse downloads so they could brag about app quantity every WWDC.

Asus Transformer Book Trio

OEM should make more dual booting devices. I'm honestly NOT into tablets and I have ZERO urge to get one but I like hybrids that consist one part tablet and the other half desktop or phone. All I see from users with tablets is people playing games or checking the Facebook. Just another brick to carry around and have another excuse to be more counterproductive. Might as well have other uses for them. Whether Transformer Book Trio (Windows 8 desktop + Android tablet), Fonepad (phablet), or Galaxy Note II (phablet).

I like my iPad and my Nexus 7, but I'm still interested in a Windows 8 (not RT) tablet. The Yoga 11S has had be interested for a while, and if I was in the market for a new laptop it would be between it and an MBA.

I've used a $900 iPad, $300 Nexus 7, and a $500 Surface RT. I must say, the iPad was pretty terrible for getting anything done because it didn't have a file system or any non-propriatary input, while the Nexus 7 was just "meh". It reminded me of using Windows 98 in 2010, very non-exciting and "safe". The Surface is what I ended up keeping, and I like it. It's far from ideal - the iPad has about 5 years of polish and spit-shine that Windows 8 lacks - but it's useful for more than Candy Crush, and 8.1 fixes most of my gripes, namely about app launch speed.

Peeved..

Just bought a Cintiq 13HD and now they announce the Cintiq Companion Hybrid which is basically the 13HD with Android built in so can be used as a standalone tablet....

Now to decide whether I send back the Cintiq when it arrives and wait till next month for the hybrid model instead.

Ativ Q will be my next tablet if the price isn't ridiculous.

Full Windows 8
Android JB
Samsung Galaxy features with S-pen
and keyboard that slides from underneath

Nothing can beat that.

From reading many of your posts, you seem to really like more advanced tech and you know how to use it. Save yourself the "buyer's remorse" and return the android-less version.;)

On topic, I have an iPad 2 and a Galaxy Note 8. Even though they are both great, I use the Note 8 more. For one thing, I'm a stylus fanboi. Also, the Note 8 is so portable. It's close, but the note is my favorite. Sometime, after the iPad 5 is released, I will get one. The iPad's bigger screen is better for sitting on a desk or my lap and in landscape; the note is better for one-handed use.

Yep I'm just trying to weigh up if the €1499 for the android version (32gb) is really worth it over the €800 I just spent on the Wacom Cintiq without.

€700 is not an insignificant amount of cash and I still am considering an iPad mini retina and a Mac Pro 2013 - let alone my PS4 and launch titles I've already pre-ordered.

Yeah I really do buy tooooooo much tech !!! Not sure there would be enough time for buyers remorse to kick in ;)

I tried the Nexus N7 just to see what Android was like....I didn't have any real issues with it as an OS, but the 7" screen and poor on screen KB were the deal breaker for me. My iPad 4 has now been turned over to the exclusive use of my Fiancee, so I get by with my phone ( IP5 ) and my rMBP....There are things I miss on the iPad, but when the new Mini comes out she will probably have one and I will get my Ipad back..:)

For what reasons?

Because it works best for me is the simple answer, but I'll go more into detail with it. I am a student, even if I am taking a semester or so off, and I like the fact that it came with Microsoft Office for free. That isn't all, though, because I also have Pages for my iPad when I was using it more (and didn't have the RT). The next thing that I like, that I use a lot, is the combined kickstand and keyboard.

Let's get something straight.

There are plenty of keyboards for the iPad. I'm not debating the usefulness of the iPad for plenty of people. If it works amazingly for you, then you should continue to use it. These are all tools, computers that is, and you should choose the one that works best for you.

That being said, I have not found a keyboard for the iPad that is as good as the Surface RT's Type Cover. It's a joy to type on, much better than the main keyboard I was using on the iPad. Maybe it's the fact that the iPad isn't as long as the Surface, I'm not sure. The keyboard just doesn't feel as cramped, at least not to me.

Then we get to the next aspect that I like, the screen. It is a much better screen than the resolution would fool you into thinking. I would say that the screen is slightly better than my Macbook Air's, really, and my Macbook Air is better than any computer screen I had seen before it. The aspect ratio is also good for watching episodes of Dr Who.

Of course, this thing isn't without its flaws. Some people just can't seem to get their apps right. Apps that didn't lag on my old Nexus 7 (I had one, screen got cracked) lag a little on here. And I know it isn't the SoC, because I can play GAMES on it but can't get a lag-free experience with the KINDLE app. :|

Anyway, I could rant and rave about it's flaws and good sides for hours but you didn't ask about that. You asked why I prefer it, and I believe I laid out my personal use case on why I do.

Right now I'm really enjoying my Galaxy Note 8 but am keeping a close eye on the 8 inch Windows tablets that run the full OS. I was hoping the Acer Iconia W3 would be the next tablet for me but the reviews are less than stellar. Who knows, maybe I'll pick one up anyways

I own an iPad 3, Nexus 7 (2013), and a yoga 13". If I was only allowed to keep one; that would be a no-brainer decision: the Yoga 13.

The Yoga 13 has it all: touch screen tablet mode, fully functional Windows ultrabook that is compatible with all my existing XP, and Win 7 programs, infinite stand positions (no need to hold it no matter if I'm sitting or lying on my back), large display (no need to put on reading glasses), useful multitasking/split screen functionality, user upgradable/repairable (I doubled my ram, can add a second SSD or larger primary SSD, and can easily replace the battery, fans, etc), lots of external ports, microSD slot (I installed a 128GB memory card in mine), games that play on all three platforms are much more enjoyable on the Yoga (I can use my X-Box controller), screen is gorgeous.

Unless you can get it for next to nothing, don't waste your time. I went to Staple to pick one up to give it a try and only needed to spend a few minutes withy the display model to decide against it. Windows 8 doesn't work well on such a small display--Metro is OK but desktop mode is nearly unusable. More importantly though, the display is atrocious.
