LOL, I really don't care about the MMS debate but ooooh, TheSpaz, you've got your nerve. You've complained and complained about firmware versions and how the icons don't disappear the way they used to, etc... but this guy complains about MMS and you wanna semi-blast him? Dude, get your self together. You're totally glass AND living in a glass house and you're juggling stones and grenades. Stop it.
Don't forget, you threw a hissy fit because you felt that people were riding you too hard over your keen, graphic sensitive eye to the point that you said you were done with this forum. YET YOU'RE STILL HERE! Your choice to be a part of any forum you want, but please don't be a hypocrite, man. Please do not.

I'm not being a hypocrite. When have I ever said I was interested in MMS? I couldn't care less about it. There are some things that I'm very picky about, yes, but those things are things that I cannot change. Believe me.

However, this guy complains about MMS and it's very easy to turn off. Problem solved. See the difference?

I can live without MMS… it's not a big deal for me. That DOESN'T make my opinion any different than anyone else's.

I think the op's point was not that mms was on their phone but that Apple wasted a lot of dev time on it when they could have done somthing more usefull. I don't fully agree with the OP. mms is usefull to some as it bridges the gap between friends with email enabled smartphones and those without those smartphones. I mostly receive mms's and it is nice to not have to go to the website.

Thank you for being able to read with understanding... Unlike TheSpaz.

I understood the first post fully, but just because the OP doesn't deem something "useful", doesn't mean that nobody else does either. Just look around… 90% of the people on here were angry that we didn't have MMS for 2 years and then even angrier at AT&T for delaying it further. People WANT MMS, it's as plain and simple as that.

However, I don't want or need MMS, but that doesn't mean I'd call it a waste of time developing it.

Whatever, I'm tired. I'm up too late… or early… whatever you wanna call it.

I wouldn't apologize. Nothing you said in the previous post should have been taken that harshly.

I'm glad he didn't apologize... but TheSpaz has made many, many posts about his love of 2.2.1 firmware... how great it is, how responsive it is. How symmetrically sound it is, etc. He was able to downgrade from higher firmware but yet he continued(s) to speak on it, post polls about it. So, this guy can vent about MMS. So what if it can be turned off? It wasn't about it being able to be turned off. Yes you can downgrade to earlier firmware if you don't like the newer ones, too. (except for some people who have upgraded to 3.1, lol!) Maybe we shouldn't discuss 2.2.1 anymore, either. That's why he's a hypocrite.

I have a number of friends with children that still have clamshell phones capable of MMS. As a result, I stay connected at least once a week receiving photos.

These are the tech types that don't spend time around email or cloud computing.

i agree, i wish apple/att didn't waste so much time developing MMS for iphone but instead bring out newer cooler features!! rather then pander to the people without smartphones! stuck in the past.... more and more people these days use email rather than text/mms - why give them more reasons to not jump onboard with smartphones!

development time?

Cmon Swirly MMS has been out for over a year that worked once ATT removed the block and on 2G phones.
I think apple probably spent more tme figuring out how to block 2G and 1G users forcing them to upgrade to a newer phone to take advantage of MMS

I wasn't sure just how often I would use MMS, but I can honestly I've used it every day since it launched, multiple times. Mostly receiving from people who now know I have it, and what a HUGE relief it is to NOT have to use viewmymessage. Yeah, I'm very thankful for MMS.

There are added benefits of MMS over email.

Say you want to send a video to a friend. Just because they have a smartphone doesn't mean that it will be able to play the format that your phone records in. With MMS the servers convert the video so that it can be played by the receiving device.

Oh dear, it's such a pity that some people have such selfish and intolerant attitudes!

Still. I suppose it makes 'em feel important ;)

lmao..Do you really think Apple spent month's on this. It was probably already figured out since the first iPhone and they just decided to include it.

i wouldnt say its some sort of kill app or anything like that, but it is convenient to have. my gf still has a crappy razr and its nice to be able to send her pics of random stuff while she's at work and cant check her email.

Being able to send a receive pictures to and from a person that doesn't have a mail enabled phone.

There, now you have found a reason why some people wanted it. I don't use Voice Memos, but you don't see me complaining about it.

Well I agree with you in the aspect that email is superior and that would be my preferred method of delivery. But...

Fact is not everyone has an iPhone or smartphone for that matter.

I guess the best thing to do is look at the ratio of people you contact that use MMS to email and go from there.

not everyones phone has email on it. but a lot have mms, so if I take a pic or video, I can sed it to them and they can have it on their phone, instead of their computer.

so, no, it's definitely not a waste

And if the recipient doesn't have an email address...?

MMS Gateways anyone? I end up posting this whenever someone pulls the "Well I can't email my friends with Dumbphones! So there!!" arguement... Well... You CAN. Email a picture to PHONENUMBER@mms.att.net to send it to someone on ATT PHONENUMBER@pm.sprintpcs.com to send to someone on Spring, PHONENUMBER@etc... They are commonly found online and there is even an applescript to auto generate these (I made it, and it's found in this forum).

I'm not saying it's a total replacement for MMS, MMS is much more convenient... but it works and you CAN send emails to SMS and MMS phones. I had no SMS plan for the last year and was sending SMS and MMS via email to all my family and friends.

NOW... On topic :D

I can't say that it was a waste even though I rarely will use it. The fact is there are LOTS of people that have been dying for this feature. This and Copy and Paste are the first things that Apple actually listened to us and did. :p I don't remember asking for a compass!!! Talk about a waste. ;)

I still haven't been able to find a reason to use it when email is superior in every way (larger image sizes, free when you don't have unlimited texting, etc). I wish Apple/ATT would have spent that time and resources on more important/useful features.

what if you wanted to receive a picture sent from someone else's phone? "duh" and yes its nice to send via email but there are some carriers that wont allow you to send a pic to another phone, so if you dont like it dont use it and you are showing your ignorance even starting this thread and im glad to give you my opinion.

O2, the sole carrier of the iPhone in the UK at the present time, does not have an MMS gateway. Next please!

The iPhone carrier doesn't need an MMS gateway... If I understand correctly... the iPhone DOES do email...

You EMAIL from your IPHONE to another persons MMS gateway. Then they get it as an MMS message. Get it?

Now if you were complaining because your dumbphone friends are all on O2 and you can't MMS to them via email, then I understand. But you should word your posts better.

Also, have someone on O2 try sending an MMS message to your email and see what happens. That's usually a good way to find out what the addresses are. A quick google search popped up some options, an MMS to your email should tell you what the right one is.

My post is worded fine. If you read my previous post I mentioned that some people might not have an email address. If I want to send an MMS to an iPhone user who doesn't have an email address then before it was tough luck.

Also, as you said, "dumb phones" wouldn't be able to receive MMS without the gateway.

A third reason for MMS: it's instant (or supposed to be, at least). Not everybody has access to push email.

A fourth reason is that I don't want to store yet ANOTHER piece of information for all of my contacts; their MMS gateway.

Actually they do.

www.ymail.com Sign up for a free push email account... So I don't see why someone would have an iPhone but not have email...

Who doesn't have email? Come on! I thought everyone had email in 1999!!!

^^ I added a fourth reason.

Not everybody uses yahoo you know!

And I know people who don't have email or have email but do not check it for days on end! Why email when you have a phone? :D
