Just took a look at the games category on the App Store on my touch, [app]X-Plane 9[/app] by Laminar Research has become available for purchase! I looked on my Mac/iTunes, but don't see it there yet.

Had to have just gone up in the past few hours, there are no reviews yet. I'm so tempted to drop the $10 right now!!!

Just bought this. It looks pretty stunning. However I have, at the moment, absolutely no idea of how it all works ;)

i'm sure the graphics are stunning, but to fly around aimlessly without purpose or some kind of goal seems to me...........kind of pointless and boring. but i'm sure this app is a nice cool "showpiece" app.

agreed, i always found the flight sim/x plane games kinda boring, just flying around doing nothing.

now a fighter jet game, that would be pretty amazing on the iphone.

To practise technique and see what it's like to fly planes you wouldn't normally fly.

Also, re fighters, dashing around the sky shooting **** out of all that moves is also kinda pointless and boring (to some). ;)

but ofcourse, everyone has different tastes :) i'm just saying on a smaller device like the iphone, i think a fast pace flight sim where we are given missions, to bomb targets, have dog fights with enemies, and so on would be more fun. hopefully we'll see something like it soon.

Does the game have options take off an airport, or to instantly set you up for an approach to land? Or does the game just start you off midair with no take off or landing abilities?

nice apps indeed BUT:

- no tutorial, frustrating for beginners like me even if the controls are quite straightforward
- no map so no choice but to fly randomly
- "only" 4 small planes available (no Airbus/Boeing)
- only 1 location (major problem in my opinion, can be boring after a while)
- noise bugs ? (no noise when new flight after a crash)

I would give a 8/10 and advice you guys to buy it if you like flight sim

Is this worth buying? I've always enjoyed flight sims but how well does this run on the iPhone and is there enough content to keep me interested?

I bought it, and it's way worth it. Of course, I'm an X-plane zealot, but it's great. You don't need a tutorial, it's very simplistic. Just raise throttle and left side, lower flaps, turn off brakes, off you go, lift off, raise your landing gear, raise flaps.

I love it, I'm sure they'll put out updates quickly. If you know anything about X-Plane you'll know they are very pro-customer developers.

I am sooooooooo tempted to buy this App, but I want to make sure that it will be updated. I don't want it to be something that gets boring fast. Does anyone know how X-Plane developers are with updating their programs. I would love to see cities, more planes to choose from, planes that fly in the air with you, etc.

While that is possible, the app would be huge. All of that data takes up a lot of space. That would easily go over the 2GB limit if there was a full-flung flight simulator in there.

This is so awesome. I hope we also see updates! Personally I'd like to get rid of the generic HUD. I would not care if the App size was 5GB either :p. Would be more interested in the implementation of systems rather than pure number of cities/airports/planes etc..

Man this is truly amazing. Controlling the plane is very fluid and straight forward and I am sure Laminar will add more features in future updates. This is definitely worth the money and they are worth supporting. :)

from x-plane.com forums:

DUDE.. you have only seen the START.
We are going to have airliners, helicopters, gliders... this is only the BEGINNING.

Also (and there is no way I should mention this) X-Plane AUTOMOTIVE is SCREAMING fun.. I will be ready to release it, hopefully, within 7 days.

When you see me issue a post about how I am morally opposed (or something) to an automotive version of x-plane with ferraris and corvettes and KRAZY tracks, you will know that we are within about 48 hours of release.

I hope to have it for desktop AND iphone shortly!

I think it would be quite possible to add the features I listed considering that the App is currently only 6.2MB.

from x-plane.com forums:

That is great news. I'm looking forward to the update. I downloaded the App, btw.

Fantastic application, simply ASTOUNDING. I never thought I would see anything like this on a device such as the iPhone and the touch. It's an amazingly fun and realistic application!

I know it's on the iTunes store on the computer but can't find it on my phone in the app store. Anyone?

Go to Categories, then Games, then scroll maybe 50 apps down and it should be there.
