so

we've reached the point in the thread where:

"my screen is yellow but I can't prove it"

"IM TELLING YOU ITS YELLOW"

--- returns phone ----

--- buys new phone ----

"YELLOW AGAIN, CANT PROVE IT"

---returns phone---

---buys phone---

stop trolling, guys.

there hasn't been more than 5 screens posted in this entire thread that warrants a return or exchange.
You realize your post is a perfect example of the work of a troll .. Correct?

What’s the best way to don’t waste time and obtain a replacement? One of my 2 12 has a notable green glow and frame misalignment.

i don’t want to do stupid try like reset or other useless stuff and spent about 2 hours at phone.

I’m still in the returning period.

Read almost all pages of this thread (have the yellow tint as well).

1. Apple is not going to be issuing a software update to correct the yellowing. If this is what’s keeping you from returning/getting another to try - do it now while you can still return - guarantee Apple will not issue software update for the yellowing.

2. Yellowing is largely due to two things, one being LG and the other the ability to pass off these differences as display variances (i.e. no issues). Have 2 OLED TVs from LG, one is perfect and the whites match that of Iphone X with the OLED “wow” factor, and the other TV has the yellowing exactly matching that of the Iphone 12.

3. Apple will likely release update to fix flashing/green coloring but again, guarantee nothing for yellowing - return now if the latter is what you are waiting for.

4. Too many issues overall with this release. Inability to focus (hardware issue, will not be corrected via software update), gaps in frames, slow/pixelated cameras, dull display colors, flashing, etc.

5. Yes, you can adjust for the yellowing from “color filters” and have it match/look even better than oem, but this is not a solution, the photos you take will not be accurate once transferred to another device and in general, things you see on your phone will not be in their true nature.

No one should have to accept these things regardless of amount paid, never mind that these iphones were touted as the best of the best. I guarantee you that anyone/everyone saying the screen is “fine” and slightly “warmer” has 1) never seen/had a good display and/or 2) is not comparing the phone next to on that has a good display and therefore cannot tell how it should be. You are paying for the most expensive, top of the line phone from the largest company (possibly 2nd largest company now) in the world - there is no excuse, return 100x if that’s what it takes for you to get one you’re satisfied with without these issues - as it should be.

Why do we gotta prove it ? You actually think people are lying about having yellow screens ?
Just ignore them 🙄 Why would we be lying about it. I’m not paying over 1200 € for the most expensive, top-of-the-line phone Apple has to offer because I want to be disappointed.

I agree. But paying this much money just makes it all the more serious. This isn’t a 400 € Android mid-ranger, I’m paying top dollar for a phone that is supposedly pushing "the screen’s amazing color, brightness, and contrast right to the very edge."

I’ve decided to return my 12 Pro Max and go back to my 8 Plus. I’ll wait out another generation and see if there will be an actual upgrade next year, hopefully with a 120 Hz screen. Good luck to all of you trying the screen lottery, I hope the good ones will come. 🤞

Morning all.
Was just looking around the forum to see if I could find something about an issue I noticed with my 12pro that I've had a few days, and I think this may be related.

I have a black and white cat. When I take a photo of him, he looks black and off-white/grey. If I look at the image on my Galaxy S8, that i've switched from, he looks so much whiter :(

I've tried the tint and white balance settings that I've seen mentioned throughout this thread, but they make no difference.

Did I just get unlucky with my 12pro?
Ironically, I don't have the green flashing issue with black colours

I agree with everything with the exception of the following:

#2: LG is not the source of the problem. It is Apple relaxing the pass/fail rates. The 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max also had significant yellow tint issues and those displays were 100% Samsung. It is up to Apple to reject 💩 displays regardless of who made them, but they are clearly not doing so as they have demand they want to meet. No news media or big reviewer (not even Macrumors - a real shame) will call them out on this, so why bother. People calling Apple Support need to understand that when they say that they are looking/investigate the issue is really code for “let’s see how many people complain about this to decide if we’ll do anything”. The only shot we had was having big name reviewers and media sites raise the issue, but that ship sailed.

#5: I assume you mean that photos you edit might not look the same once you export them. That might be true. But photos you take will be fine. If you are stuck with an iPhone with one of these 💩 displays, color filters are your only real solution. My issue with that is that it impacts brightness. Other than that it clearly improves the colors. The other alternative would be to sell the device at a loss and buy another phone.

Main point is: if you can’t stand the yellow display, return it. Don’t keep it with hopes of Apple making it right as they won’t. You are setting yourself up for big disappointment. The yellow tint in the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max was never fixed for users with the issue, neither will it be in the 12 series. With luck, once supply meets demand, Apple will tighten tolerances and future production runs will have better displays.

I am still unsure what is called the yellow tint. Especially if you are referring to a yellow tint w/o TT. I agree that with TT on it is much yellower than previous gen. But when it is off I see no issues. With TT on it is getting much crisper/whiter whenever I get close to a window with natural light. I agree though that a less agressive TT would be nice to have.
The real issue for me are raised blacks (discussed in another thread).

Yeah I agree that it's not an LG problem.
But since the yellow tint problem seems to be on both LG and Samsung, isn't it possible that the REAL problem here is calibration? Clearly the screens are capable of perfect whites, so I'm not even sure the screens themselves are that bad.
Unfortunately even if it is a calibration problem, a software update can't fix that :(

This has been happening since 4s. Apple will never admit it. I’ve actually learned that the replacement “white box” units are usually more yellow (probably returns).

like I said previous, now I just order multiples, check screens, and keep the best one.

it is not software, just subpar screens that most of Apple customers will never complain about. We are the minority, the majority of iPhone users don’t care or even notice.

Not true in my case. My white box replacement has a much better screen than my original. And I’m sure all white boxes are brand new and not refurbished at this point, but doesn’t Apple replace the screens and cases of all refurbs anyways? I’ve never heard of a white box replacement having scratches, so they must replace the cases and screens and only re-use the internals.

Stop inspecting these phones with a microscope! There's no difference!

/s

I don't think many of you have worked retail/call-centre gigs whilst at Uni etc. These adviorsrs are literally trained to say "we're aware of the problem". Think of all the Data/MI that Apple collects, do you really think there's someone collating information about a few people complaining about yellow tints? Realistically, the other age-old complaints like "battery life, iPhone not restoring etc" will dwarf the amount of yellow tint complaints Apple gets. Therefore, the only solution is to return for now, and purchase again sometime in Jan/Feb/march and see if a new batch has solved the problem.

Oh and for all of you fangirls screaming "another camera can't capture your phone being yellow", how dumb are you? If I use the same camera, that captures the exact same parameters, line up two phones side by side and take a photo - If the iPhone 12 is more "yellow" in the photo (as seen above in the post I've quoted) , then it doesn't matter what the camera sees, because the baseline is the same. I.E it's capturing the same photo in one take, and shows that one phone does in fact have more of a tint. Doesn't take a genius to work that one out, just a rational thinker.

No other unit to compared with? Or other older model? Cameras use white balance to compensate whites. NOt too helpful pics are those.

Very true. Unfortunately i do not have my 11 Pros with me anymore. But this is the 3 rd 12 Pro replacement and quiet happy with this one. Like you said i cannot compare with another device but ive seen fair share of my yellow washed out screens with 4 12 Pro Max and 3 12 Pro replaced. All devices were replaced by EE.

p.s i can say with confident its time to officially unsubscribe this thread.

Got my iPhone 12 Pro 3 days ago.
No problems with yellow screen/tint, but significant flickering with video slow motion :(
It is happening when taking slo-mo video at home or outside. Planning to wait another couple of days. If there is no new software issue I will return it to the store.
My iPhone Xs or 6s do not have this issue.

Have you compared to your Xs and the display on 12 is not warmer at all?

How did you go about getting a replacement model? I’m far out of the return period for my 12 Pro, so when it comes to it I’d be looking for a replacement too. It seems there’s conflicting reports on this thread about people’s success with Apple allowing replacements. I don’t know whether that’s due to online vs in person enquiries, or whether it’s down to where you’re based in the world and consumer rights laws, warranties and the sort. Maybe it’s because Apple are holding off on replacements due to a software fix in the works for the separate green tint issue? Does AppleCare come into the picture? In your case, what made Apple accept the yellow tint issue as something that warranted a replacement, as for some others in this thread they didn’t acknowledge this as an issue? Would you be able to shed some light on these points, and the process you went through to achieve a replacement? I think it would be great to see people start posting their experiences and successes regarding replacements. For those of us who are out of our return periods, this would be useful. In my case, I’d probably try and wait it out until next year to be on the safe side, but I’ll still be looking out to see if the replacements are getting better and more consistent in the meantime.

It depends on the seller and the purchase date. Apple has a 14-day no questions asked return period. However, at this time of the year the return period is extended. For instance, my 12 Pro Max was delivered on November 13 and I have until January 8 to start a return for a refund or replacement. Therefore, when purchasing from Apple the best approach might be to avoid calling Apple Support and simply reorder and return. My reorder is scheduled to arrive on December 9.
