My colorimeter arrived. All with true tone auto brightness night shift and whatever available. Measured at nights with lights turned off.
Not any scientific measurements, but just for comparison between my devices.
Not much needs to be say.. These are 12 minis. See that green bar sticked out at both minimum and maximum brightness?

It's not the just color temperature it's the balance of the rgb when producing white, and the accuracy , see that ΔE?

It's not people in this forum are crazy, it's the world, the world is crazy. The iPhone 12 mini before this one, all four iPhone 12 models at my local walmart, has the same tinted display as mine. I can't tell a single difference when matched the settings with all walmart iphone 12s. And can't tell a single difference side by side with both iPhone 12 minis too (I had a detailed lengthy long reply which I took pictures of actual pixels using a macro lens but it got removed., so whatever )

I don't know, is it me crazy to think the world is crazy just by accepting green as the new white and trash every apple products besides iPhone 12s. Maybe those people are right. iPhone 12s are perfect phones that have perfect displays with perfect whites. And in this perfect world there's no way white should be perfectly 1:1:1 of R:G:B

Okay so I started to think my iPhone 12 mini displays are trash...then I took a measurement of my Android Gaming phone (144Hz OLED), and....

Eh it's so trash...(I knew it's not that good just by using it) ...But I have to admit, I'm more sensitive to the abundance of green on iPhone 12 mini.) There's must be some science behind it.. which is probably true.. the abundance of green is more noticable. The abundance of Red / Blue kinda worked together and cancels each other out..

BTW if you wonder how color tint in accessibility settings work. Below is what I can achieve at the best.

I tweaked the color tint settings constantly checking my colorimeter. Things to note
1. Maximum brightness dropped to 421 from 658, that's not some little drop
2. Even I almost correct the white ( just the white, the actual color accuracy of other colors are probably worse by using the color tint) and one brightness(minimum in this case), it won't be the corrected in another brightness. (This is why factory calibrating of phone displays are so damn important..

Apple is not that apple anymore. This kind of quality is very...not apple compared to Apple. Now here's conspiracy theories.
1. The one who manufacture calibration equipment for Apple made some fundamental mistake, and they decide to go with it because it costs them less to keep than change.
2. Bad displays just cheaper to produce. Or lower tolerance. Green compared to white is more environmentally friendly and they just go for it.
3. They are doing social experience and brain wash under the guidance of aliens. Now they almost established green as the new white for Apple, what's next.
Apple always seems to be pushing further into maximum profit over quality and what they can get away with with the average consumer not noticing.

A success story for those interested:

launch day 12 Pro Max (Gold, 256), yellow screen, low contrast, raised blacks

was able to start return until 8th January, so thought I’d wait until then and order another one.

new one arrived yesterday, same config, week 50, serial G0ND

it’s like a yellow sticker had been peeled off the screen. Brighter, higher contrast and reduced yellow screen. Raised blacks issue also barely present, only very briefly and faintly on the boot screen.

only issue with this phone is minor imperfections on the gold edges (a few dots where the coating was scratched)

summary: phone with bad screen replaced with good screen
Yeah WTF is with the gold frame on there G0ND models ? One was severely scuffed at the base edge area above the charge port out of the box and my current one has a few tiny acceptable to me imperfections near the top and volume frame.
Someone is obviously not shutting down production to clean or calibrate machinery at some point on the production line. Mmm I wonder why lol

I hate green tint also. It was like this for me for a few flag ship devices I’ve owned during 2020, Oneplus 8 pro, Note 20 ultra ( one was like this ) . Samsung is making trash displays.

Looks like for those with a regular 12, the 11 is a much better option, if one doesn’t mind the heavier phone and larger bezels.. you get a more solid reliable screen, largely similar camera, better battery life at a much lower price point

I have noticed that when I turn off True Tone the screen has a more bluish tint, on par with how my iPhone 6S+ LCD screen looks. Is it the case that the yellow tint issue occurs with True Tone off?
Yes that’s the case. Of course the screen is less yellow without True Tone indoors, but still a bit on the warm side, warmer for example than with True Tone outdoors in bright daylight. Edit: I’m actually unable to get a colder tint with True Tone. TT on or off doesn’t make any difference in broad daylight on my unit.

There are units that are close to the standard 6500 K color temperature (cf. the measurements on the previous page of the 12 mini — mine is similar) although very slightly on the warmer side, but all units seem to have too much green in their RGB balance, which in combination results in a warmish-greenish tint. It tends to become more pronounced in darker colors, e.g. in dark gray like this forum’s dark-mode background.

Color perception varies between individuals, so not everyone will notice it, describe it in the same terms, or see a problem with it.

Finally returned my last iphone 12 pm 2 days ago after 2months, all the ip12 pm I bought had the same issues, yellow, non true black, flickers and camera flickers.

I was getting used to the "yellow true tone" but I just couldn't stand for the video flickers when recording even under regular sunlight. I upgraded it from X mainly for the camera, but this is just disappointing.

Now I'm back with my X and I will wait for 13 instead.

What video flickering do you mean?

I’m not sure how to detect the issue. I feel that for my iPhone 12 mini it’s a problem with True Tone. When I was indoor with True Tone on, my iPhone looked much more yellow than my iPad Pro. Right now I’m outside. My iPad Pro and iPhone 12 with True Tone on look almost identical (without True Tone, my iPhone looks slightly more yellow than the iPad, but that doesn’t seem a fair comparison).

How do you return a phone after 2 months ?
In America as much as consumer laws are weak compared to Europe , they do funnily have something called a holiday extended return period. Starts sometime in November I think, anything bought then can get returned at a much later date after Christmas.

On video flickering... I noticed yesterday shooting a video outside.

I’ve now noticed that even inside, with HD60, video shot with the 12 has flickering with this particular light bulb, while the video shot with the Xr does not (same settings - HD 60)... flickering is noticeable on the video while recording and on in the file as you can see

(this happens in both 12s I tested)

Lol, some people have no idea, 11 is a Xr upgrade at best and Both not even as good as the 8 plus screen. My 12 screen is perfect and battery is similar to my 11 pro I had for my uses, 2 days.

13 won’t be any different lol, ask the op.

“Some people have no idea”.

disagreements can happen, no need to be rude

Just got my new 12PM. My previous one had a yellow screen, raised blacks and flickering. This new one has the same yellow screen, but no raised blacks or flickering. Might keep this one, though I'm not entirely sure yet. I won't say that it's a harsh yellow when TT is turned off. Piss with TT on, though.

Production week: 51

No flickering or raised black at all ? At any brightness level ? In a dark room ? I’m gonna return my 12 PM today and reorder later and I hope I have some chances to not have any raised blacks with the next one..

Not that I could see. It was very faint in my previous one that I returned a couple of months ago. Barely noticeable, but I did see it. I couldn't see anything now. There was a small gap where light came into the room, so I'm gonna do a new test when it's completely dark outside, but I don't believe it'll make any difference.

The last time I could see a difference between Safari and the YouTube-app as well, where there was only a green glow in Safari, but flickering in the app. This time there was no difference, all black. I'll update it to 14.3 to see if that'll make any difference.

Had exactly the same issue, so made a ticket @ Apple, got eventually a senior technician on the phone, he asked me to upload my videos to their portal (I got an email with a link to upload). As result he saw the massive flicker himself during our call. One week later he had feedback from "the engineers in the US", the flicker was due to (my) indoor artificial lighting. Some artificial lights seem to do this to iPhone 12 (Pro Max in my case) at 60 FPS. Flicker is not there at other FPS settings. They recommended not to make any indoor video recordings with the artificial lighting on (really!!) or go outdoors. I was speechless for a few seconds as you can imagine ..... They had no explanation as to why the flicker was not there (or at least massively less noticeable) on older iPhone's in my family at 60 FPS. I must say this flicker is not there with all artificial lights in my house, only some. In one I replaced the LEDs with halogen, problem solved .... Still, this was (next to green/yellow screen) one of the reasons why my 12PM has gone back to Apple.

Interesting suggestion from the engineers...

I noticed as well that if I change the setting the flickering disappears, it’s indeed the kind of light bulb. Other lights don’t have that behaviour..

I sort of found a way to fix the outdoor flickering when moving the phone with the sky, clouds etc in the background... it’s by turning off the option “auto FPS”.
