Has anyone actually tried comparing iPhone 12 family screens with truetone off to a calibrated monitor or used professional equipment?

It seems if this is such an issue, at least someone would have. My iPhone 12 is more yellow than my m1 Mac as said, but no way to tell which of those is right or wrong between the two of them.

In natural light, my iPhone 12 with True Tone off actually looks better in terms of the white point vs. my Mac and vs my girlfriend's iPhone XR. They're a lot more blue, but probably too blue. So my iPhone 12 looks okay, but a little too yellow with True Tone on in natural light and way too yellow in a darker setting with yellow unnatural light. My Mac with True Tone on in unnatural light looks about perfect and how True Tone has always worked for me on previous iPhone models. It's also difficult when I'm comparing LCD to OLED. I'm pretty sure since the dynamic range is different, the colour balances would always have to be different regardless, would they not?

My guess and takeaway from all this is that there's a few things going on here. Some people say that apple targeted warmer displays and some say they loosened tolerances. Why not both? Maybe their target was a warmer display, but they also relaxed tolerances or even didn't and what was previously cool blue displays that would vary to being a little yellow to more cold looking is now a target for a warmer display, that when tolerances are stretched is very yellow. Also, since I'm guessing True Tone has no way of knowing your display calibration, it can be very bad on displays that are already too warm. It might even be too much on displays that are at Apple's target. My display is a little too blue with True Tone off, and too yellow with it on so it seems like True Tone being a one size fits all is also an issue.

Yes, my monitors and my old retina MBP are calibrated with a Spyder Elite and the iPhone 12 Pro Max is more yellow than my screens.

My rMBP actually didn't change colour temp after calibration, mainly just contrast levels.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max does not 'match' any other Apple devices I'm around, iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, etc.

While infuriating for us, Apple know that most people simply don't care, and that we get used to different colour temps, so I am quite sure that this issue will never be addressed.

Thanks a lot for replying. I read through a lot of this thread, but didn't see any comment about comparing another monitor that's calibrated. I'm not surprised the rMBP was close, every apple device I've ever had has been accurate enough that its a non-issue to me, compared to other devices from other manufacturers where I just expect the screen to be completely off. my iPhone 6 years and years ago was too blue, but that was less annoying than yellow. Id love to just exchange or return the phone at this point, but it's too late as I bought it December 2020. You're probably right that the issue won't be addressed. I sold off all my old apple devices after getting the 12 and it was all I used for a few months, so it wasn't noticeable to me, but now it's a huge annoyance going from my Mac to the iPhone and having to wait for my eyes to adjust and if I'm in a room with yellow lighting, it's too much for them to. Wish they'd at least give us a way to adjust colour temperature.

The other weird thing with my iPhone 12 is that with True Tone off, it goes all the way back to being much, much too blue tinted. You would think that a yellow tint compared to various other devices means that the screen must just be too yellow period, but no. The screen independent of True Tone is way too blue and with True Tone on, for some reason it's way too yellow. Something funny is going on there because you'd think that True Tone on a screen that's too blue tinted should result in a True Tone thats still a little too blue. I'm almost wondering if other screens are even more blue than mine and the reason that True Tone is so aggressive is to make up for those other screens, which gives too yellow an appearance for those of us that may have less blue screens.
My thoughts are that whatever calibration is applied to the light sensor is off and that's why the white colour balance goes too yellow when TT is enabled. Mine is the same as yours, quite blue when TT is disabled.

Same experience on my 11 Pro, but I’m used to it by now. I recently picked up a iPad Air 4 and I find it does a much better job with true tone - it doesn’t have such a drastic boost in temperature like the iPhone when I go to turn it on.

Yes, my iPad Mini 5 is also fine.

sorry guys, maybe I have already asked but I don't remember, this problem is a green yellow tint along the volume bar when you watch a video on YouTube, you all have it or is there a correlation with these poorly calibrated screens? ..

Its normal every OLED iPhone has a white bar on youtube when watching a video is black, they had it since ios 13 no worries it meant to that.

Do you see this green yellow tint all the time no matter what is on the screen? Or is it only on totally black content in a dark room? If it's only on content like in your picture, in what percent of your actual phone usage do you run into seeing this problem? .0001%? I'm not saying that what is in your picture couldn't be bothersome. I just question how often it is seen to be the deemed the colossal problem as portrayed by many.

I see this green line always but only if I open the YouTube application on my iPhone 12 pro and start a dark video, and increase or decrease the volume .. when the volume bar appears this green line appears that I hate .. more increase the brightness and more you can see .. for the rest I have no problem with green tint but only the classic yellow calibration of this year's iPhones that we all have .. if I open YouTube from safari the problem is not there because the volume bar has a different graphical interface .. I don't understand if it's a bug on all iPhones because it's a YouTube bug or just mine

it’s not all devices. Mine doesn’t have this issue. Got it at launch

guys I called apple and they reported me that the green tint that appears on youtube app is a youtube bug .. if I had a green tint also on other apps or in general on the iphone they would have replaced it .. I was honest, after ios 14.5. I no longer have green tint problems on my phone except in YouTube. App.. i have only the yellow tint but for that they confirmed that The iPhone have been calibrated like this and there is nothing to do..

I have noticed red ghosting effect when scroll with true-black and greys in settings (brightness over 70%).
Become quite evident after 14.5.

Anyone else notice this?
Haven’t ever noticed this myself, but I’ve noticed on my Home Screen app icons sometimes ghost when swiping over a page.
