I really hope with tech like micro LED we have binary consistency: its perfect and works or it doesn't and won't even power up.

Seems long overdue for screen tech, like most/all other components.

Same with battery tech, actually and wear.

yes I have high hopes for Micro LED. I have a 12 Pro arriving tomorrow, if its not close to my XR it's going back.

All display phones will be bright, white, and clear within 4 days of launch. 100% Chance.

The wavy lines off axis of XR/11 always bothered me.

I have it on my SE2 but the display is bright white and crisp. and much more faint.

BOE was ruled out.

its believed LG is both 6.1 and Samsung is 5.4/6.7

but I would like more confirmation. As I think the rumor was originally the opposite: that all are Samsung, and that the 6.1" are Samsung and the mini and max are LG.

who knows

I dont have as big a stigma with LG anymore, after really loving the crap out of my LG OLED tv's.

Different than mobile OLED, granted. but LG can make good stuff. and in my experience, what I believe to be LG in LCD iPhones I think is generally brighter more vibrant and whiter than the counterparts.

LG OLEDS are WRGB displays while Samsung are RGB display. Since WRGB produce a higher peak nit value over RGB, the Pro lineup is likely using the LG panels, and the 12 and 12 mini use the Samsung panels.

Wait.. I just received mine and it is a nice cooler display. No yellow tint.
I remember the iphone 11/pro was warmer and more yellow so I thought this year they went for a colder display but yours is actually even more yellow than the yellow from last year?

Hmmm, but both 6.1 non Pro and Pro can achieve 1200 nit HDR brightness with content.

its only 625 vs 800 for non-video content. The difference seems an artificial limitation.

Thats for specular highlights. Overall, a RGB OLED peak brightness will be dimmer with 100% full white screen vs an WRGB OLED.

that's an interesting theory though, the brightness difference being LG vs Samsung.

Still I think 'reviewers' have said they cant tell any difference between 12 and 12 pro in quality. I'll take it with a grain of salt though, since my eyes are much more analytical than the average person.

I dont get people dunking on @kre62 , this a good conversation of a thread. I recall the name too, as a fellow screen stickler haha

I've chilled out over the years though.

It tells me you were the wrong person to make this thread.

A fascinating reply.

To me this is the Semmelweiz case all over again.

For those who dont know, Ignaz Semmelweis was a doctor and scientist in the 1800s who put forth a very unpopular theory that his fellow doctors should was their hands after observing an increase in mortality amongst newborns who were being recieved by doctors who had recently handled corpes.

He was ridiculed and recieved tons of hostility towards him for putting forth such an idea. Which later offcourse was determined to be just right - as bacteria from the corpses were transmitted to the newborns causing them do get infections then die. This was before we knew what bacteria was and before the concept of hygiene was well spread.

While im not saying that we are on the verge of some new scientific discovery here - the ideas and hypotheses in this thread are not some far fetched mumbo jumbo, as some of you make it out to be.

At worst, me and the OP is wrong. Nothing is better than that! Thats simply science. Time will tell if we are seeing Apple shipping defective units, or if the white point on the iPhone 12s are simply shifted towards yellow, more so than previous models.

There is no reason to get angry or to have a heated up discusson about it, its just observations and speculations and none of us here can know who is right before we get some more data on the subject.

This is my first time ever preordering an iPhone. I have not noticed this in the past (maybe because I was never triggered to pay attention". But as far as I'm concerned, if I can still use True Tone pretty much normally and it will NOT get worse, than I'm not worried about a return.

Besides, in the past if I ever have had an issue with a phone, Apple has always been pretty quick to rectify it without hassle. But those are just MY isolated experiences.

Now if it were yellow like "Night Mode" yellow that **** would be going back.

Will be interesting what happens in 2021. Samsung will be making QD-OLED displays that will be significantly brighter, with a greater range of color compared to WRGB OLED. TCL has already said they will introduce a QD-OLED lineup of tvs in late 2021 using the new Samsung OLED displays. I would not doubt, Samsung will be using them for their phone displays in the future.

An option for those with a yellow screen that don't want to go through the return/replace process with the hopes of getting a better display can follow the steps on the following link to see if it is of any help:

I’ve tried that before, but it changes the brightness of the phone. Not a good solution for me.

still setting up but this is too warm, to yellow!?

So I went to my local apple store to investigate a little and what I found there was good!

There was little to no difference in the display unit on the right, and my pro 12 on the left. Taken with my iPhone 8.

!!!!Very good!!!!!

This means, that most likley, the screens are simply shifted more towards yellow this year than what it has previously been. They are more yellow, but they are supposed to be like that. For some reason...

I have to say, its quite a large shift towards yellow.

My 5s, iPhone 8 and 12.9 are all substantially bluer, and they feel more in tune with my calibrated monitor (that I use for photo editing).

With that said, I will check a couple of different Apple stores in my city next week and see if any differences has appeared.

This is science, folks. If you have a suspicion towards something you have to find the evidence, one cannot just asume.

There is no personal loss in admitting that you are wrong, in fact that is what science is all about - trying to eliminate as much many hypotheses as possible.

Lets see what next week finds. Hopefully all the screens I come across are just as yellow as my 12 pro.

If so, that will mean that we were right about feeling something was... "off" with out screen tint, but that we were wrong about there being a conspiracy where in Apple was deliberatly shipping "bad" units in order to please as many as customers as possible on release day.

same thread new iPhone 😂

this unit looks good at a glance

Mine is awful compared to my XS Max - I have avoided the issue since the iPhone 7 when I had to go back and get a replacement.
Apple have inspected mine and said they will replace - noticeable difference to the display units, although no stock so have to go back.
I've also noticed that the yellow is worse on one side of the screen.

This has really annoyed me that Apple try and get away with it.
